この夏いきたい！初夏の東北旅。[青森県 弘前篇］ | 日本の旅 | 江戸時代の街並みと城下町がそのまま残る街
This is the gate to Japan, the beautiful brick-built Tokyo Station, Marunouchi exit. Today’s destination is Shin-Aomori Station, 670 km away. That distance is roughly equivalent to the distance from Paris, France, to Munich, Germany, illustrating the vertical expanse of Japan. We’ll comfortably traverse the distance in just 3 hours aboard the Shinkansen.
Though northeast Japan captivates with its winter scenery, I’ll prove it offers plenty of attractions in its lush early summer too. After boarding the Shinkansen, it’s time for the long-awaited bento box! This bento box is anything but ordinary – pull the string, and it heats up!
Typically, bento boxes are served cold, and the rice is often hard, so enjoying a warm bento is truly a pleasure! By the way, this is Sendai’s specialty, beef tongue! It’s not directly related to this trip,
But since it’s also from northeast Japan and I’ve been into it lately, I decided to buy it. It’s warm! Enjoying delicious meals, admiring beautiful scenery, dozing off after an early start, the 3 hours pass in the blink of an eye, and I’ve arrived at Shin-Aomori Station. Thank you, good bye!
At our destination, Hirosaki City, we were greeted by Mount Iwaki, the highest peak in Aomori Prefecture at 1,625m! The bluish tint of the towering mountain against the Hirosaki city backdrop… What a splendid landscape! The peak is covered by clouds! It looks beautiful! I’ve just arrived at the entrance of Zenrin-gai.
There’re 33 Buddhist temples here. These temples are located in the direction of the castle called “ura kimon”. It’s in the southwest direction, and traditionally, temples were often built there to guard against ominous influences believed to come from that direction. And Zenrin-gai is located at the “ura kimon”.
Let’s go and see it! I’m so exited! I’m eager to see the scenery with 33 temples lined up. There’s an entrance over there! I arrived at the temple town, Zenrin-gai, located to the south of Hirosaki Castle, famous for its extant keep, in Hirosaki City.
The second lord of the Hirosaki domain, Tsugaru Nobuhira, who built the castle, gathered Choshoji Temple and other major temples of Tsugaru here in 1610. Zenrin-gai is located in the unlucky direction from Hirosaki Castle, but there’s another reason why the temples are gathered here.
Strategically built with defenses like earthworks, the temples serve as defensive points during war, creating a stronghold on the southern side. That’s exactly a feast for the eyes! The 33 temples lining the cedar-lined avenue create a mysterious atmosphere indeed. Following the 600 m path leads to the quiet presence of Choshoji Temple,
The temple of the Tsugaru clan, who contributed to the prosperity of Hirosaki. I was greeted by the gate built by Tsugaru Nobuhira in 1629. These 16-meter gates are left unpainted, simple yet picturesque. By the condition of the wood, it’s clear that the gates has a long history.
I can’t believe it has a 400-year history. In my opinion in places like these, it’s best not to look but simply enjoy the atmosphere. It’s hard to believe, but this gate was built at the same time as Hirosaki Castle! And Hirosaki Castle was built in 1611.
So it’s been standing since then. Zenrin-gai was created as a stronghold on the southern side, with Choshoji Temple serving as the main temple. At the back, you’ll find the main temple. Choshoji Temple was established in 1528 in Ajigasawa Town,
Close to the Sea of Japan, and relocated here in 1610, a hundred years later. The current main temple constructed around that time. Both the gate and the main temple are significant architectural structures from the early Edo period (1603 – 1690), often compared to the Nikko Toshogu Shrine.
When you visit Hirosaki, I recommend visiting it. On that day, there was a festival in Hirosaki, and I tried tonjiru soup that was being distributed at the square. Delicious! Also, I came across a sign offering matcha tea for just 100 yen, and I couldn’t pass it up. You’re so professional.
The people who made it were kind and taught me a proper way of making matcha. Making matcha requires good foam, but it’s really difficult. Press lightly in the middle… Thank you! Why it can be made so beautifully? Especially with this quick wrist movement… It’s still challenging for me. Wow! It’s also tasty.
It’s definitely tasty! Delicious! The taste is very consistent, not too sweet or too bitter, just a perfect balance! The foam is extremely fine, the taste is also delicate! It was the most memorable day. Enjoying delicious matcha, learning the proper way of making it, and having conversations with the locals! Thank you!
Finally, I’ve reached Hirosaki Castle. The gate is right there. The main gate of Hirosaki Castle, the Otemon Gate, is coming into view. While this castle is famous for being one of the only 12 remaining castles with an extant keep in Japan,
There are also other structures such as towers and gates that still stand. One of them is this Otemon Gate. Every spring, Hirosaki Castle becomes a hot topic with its stunning view of 2,600 cherry blossoms. It’s even hailed as the best in Japan.
The first cherry blossom tree was brought from Arashiyama in Kyoto and planted here in 1715, and that marked the birth of this scenery. Soon the main keep should appear… Oh, no! It’s not there! The truth is… It’s here! Ta-da! Here is the only extant keep in Northeastern Japan.
However, it’s tiny and looks more like a turret. Hirosaki Castle was planned by Tsugaru Tamenobu, who unified the Tsugaru region in 1603, but he wasn’t granted permission to build, so construction began in 1610 under the second lord, Nobuhira.
It is said that the main keep at the time of completion was as magnificent as that of Himeji Castle, but unfortunately, it was lost to a lightning strike in 1627, less than 20 years after its construction.
The current keep, which served as a replacement, was built in 1811 under the pretext of renovating the turret. And currently, the main keep of Hirosaki Castle is under reconstruction, with the stone walls and the keep being separated.
Since this unique sight will be visible until 2025, I believe it’s worth visiting at least once just to see this! It’s very unusual to see the main keep without stone walls! A very rare sight. Without stone walls, it looks like somebodies house.
Usually, the main keep looks grandeur, but the main keep of Hirosaki Castle looks very cute now. Despite the original five-story keep being destroyed by fire, you can still see the foundation of the keep at the southwest corner of the main enclosure. I recommend seeing the beautiful views from the top!
Before, you could observe the town from here. Zenrin-gai and Shirakami-Sanchi were also visible from here, but now they’re obscured by trees. Hirosaki is the top producer of apples in Japan, and its specialty is the apple pie. So I made a little stop to taste the delicious apple pie!
As expected of a specialty, it’s delicious! Finally, we’ll pass through the Kitamon Gate and explore the samurai residence district, Nakacho. By the way, the Kitamon Gate was originally from another castle and was relocated in 1611.
It’s said to be the only building at Hirosaki Castle that has experience in battles, with traces still remaining. Nakacho is the castle town of Hirosaki Castle. It has a well-preserved layout from the Edo period (1603 – 1868) and samurai residences.
There are also gates facing the road, followed by Sawara cypress hedges or blackboard fences, which also convey the scenery of that time well. As the result, Nakacho is designated as an “Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.”
It felt like a journey back to old Japan for a day, and it was so much fun! I highly recommend visiting Hirosaki to experience old Japan yourself! Thank you for watching. See you in the next video!

私は近畿の生まれ育ちで東北は仙台までしか行ったことはありませんが、機会を見つけて青森まで行って見たいものです。
東北は、仙台迄しか行ってないですが、青森迄は３時間台で行けるんですね～凄いね～😅
仲町の垣根が綺麗ですね 維持するのが大変なのか今ではほんと少なくなりました
垣根の横をゆっくりと歩くダリヤさんの姿が似合過ぎていてとても癒されます。

青森県と言えば弘前城と桜🌸、津軽鉄道のストーブ列車、そして太宰治。数年前斜陽館を見学して来ました。それにしても、今はテレビ等の普及により標準語で言葉の壁が無いから会話も難が無いですね。昔は、津軽弁で話されては全く分かりませんでした。
青森はねぶたですね❤

ダリアさんが、山内丸山遺跡の動画をアップした後、感化されて青森に行きましたが、市内観光はそこそこに山内遺跡に見てから、白神山地方面に行きました。市内にも、落ち着いたスポットがあったんですね・・・次回は回ってみようと思います。ちなみに白神山地の青池は、北海道の白金青い池ほど大きくないですが、綺麗ですのでお薦めします。

いつも思うのですが、ダリアさんの解説は、
NHK大河ドラマの最後に放映する紀行コーナーを観ているようで、
とても和みます。
弘前は、私の母方の祖母の生まれた土地で、浅からぬ縁があります。私自身も世界自然遺産の白神山のブナ林に苗を植える活動のため、訪れ、弘前、鯵ヶ沢に滞在しました。青森は、北海道と並び、日本で独力で自給できる数少ない県の一つです。陸と海の産物に恵まれ、食の宝庫でもあります。今後、注目度の高まる土地でしょう。
弘前に仕事で行った際に、時間が出来たので弘前城に登城してきました。
今回のダリアさん動画と同様、天守の石垣を修理している時期でした。
天守に登った際に階段の角度が急すぎて上る時と、それ以上に降りる時にとても怖かった思いをしました（笑）
青森県の動画を見てると、空気が美味しい、水が美味しい、自然が美しい、ねぶたなど郷土文化が沢山あって、見どころ満載のようです。弘前は落ち着いた城下町の雰囲気がとってもいいですね。さくら祭り行こうと思っています。
東京大阪はじめビルだらけの大都市は人が溢れかえってゴミゴミしている観光地なので、精神的にも肉体的にも疲れるし、あまりいいエネルギーを感じません。

東北では、弘前が圧倒的に国指定の文化財の多い唯一の地を圧勝する事弘前ですよ。日本で京都、奈良についで世界遺産に指定されてもおかしく無い楽しみな古都弘前を楽しんで下さい。藩政時代から明治大正、昭和を感じる建物があちこちに点在してます。それと食べ物もりんごのアップルパイや、フランス料理、和菓子、洋菓子、ラーメン、蕎麦パンソールフード食べ物も健在です、イタリアン料理も豊富です。是非お越しを!
岩木山は日本百名山ですが車でスカイラインで行くとロープウェイがあるので簡単に登れます。去年仙台から弘前とは仲の悪い八戸、下北半島迄レンタカーで行きました。地方は車で行くと超便利なんですが。
それにしても仙台八戸間350キロは海岸沿いに無料高速道路があるので驚きます。
桜の季節🌸にもう一度、訪れたい所ですね!。ダリアさんのチャンネルは、映像、画質がとても綺麗です!。😽
