【関西・穴場】なぜこんなところに「関西」珍しいスポット5選

Hello, this is rootrip. I would like to introduce some unusual spots that I found during my travels that made me wonder, “Why is this place here??” There are some rare spots that are not even listed in guidebooks, so please enjoy it till the end.

A shrine located in a quiet residential area in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture. The object of worship at this shrine is a huge stone approximately 40m in circumference and 10m in height. A sacred atmosphere surrounded by greenery. As you approach, you will be overwhelmed by the size of the rock.

I feel a power that is hard to approach. There is a folk tale about this rock. 400 years ago, large stones were cut and transported to build the stone walls of Osaka Castle. The villagers objected, fearing it would damage the sacred rock. However, the officials ignored them and went ahead with their work.

When the stone cutters strike the rock, sparks fly and smoke blows out. A mysterious force attacked them, and many lost their lives. Since then, it seems that this rock has become very important. The stamp of the castle lord at the time of Osaka Castle’s construction also remains.

I can’t believe it’s located in a quiet residential area. It is said to be beneficial for praying for childbirth and safe childbirth. The mysterious cafe is located in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. Shigaraki ware is famous for its raccoon figurines. The cave-like cafe is located in Shigaraki Pottery Village.

There are rows of kilns with a history of over 90 years. The inside of this kiln is actually a cafe. It appears that the kiln, which was no longer in use, was renovated into a cafe. It has a great atmosphere.

The inner wall has been exposed to the open fire of the kiln many times. Feel the history of traditional crafts. This is the cafe menu. Let’s go inside. A cake and drink set starts at 800 yen. The taste is very ordinary. You can enjoy the atmosphere that can only be experienced here.

A bridge spanning the Kizugawa River that flows in the southern part of Kyoto Prefecture. A long wooden bridge suddenly appears at the end of a tea plantation. A wooden bridge that goes on forever. The rustic scenery makes you feel as if you have traveled back in time.

Japan’s longest wooden bridge with a total length of 356.5m and a width of 3.3m. When the water rises, the bridge girder is washed away and floats on the water surface like a raft, absorbing the pressure of the water. And it looks like this rope will pull it back.

It has been washed away 23 times, but has been restored each time. Next, we will introduce spots in Arima Onsen. A park near Ropeway Arima Onsen Station. 5 minutes walk from the station (15 minutes from the hot spring town) to a little-known scenic waterfall.

I don’t often go to Arima Onsen by ropeway, so I didn’t know much about the existence of this waterfall. However, when you go there, it is a pretty amazing waterfall. Tsuzumigataki. Takimi Chaya is next door, so you can take a break. And I found the mysterious slide when I returned.

A moss-covered slide that looks like something out of a Ghibli anime. Quite a slope and length. I was surprised and asked, “Why is it here?” At first I didn’t think it was a slide, but it really is a slide just for kids.

A bath suddenly appeared on the grounds of a temple in Kyoto. It is located on the grounds of Myoshinji, the largest Zen temple in Japan. It is said to have been built by Mitsuhide Akechi’s uncle to pray for Mitsuhide’s body, and is commonly known as “Akechi Bath.”

It has an unusual structure with a building (steam bath) inside a building. It seems that the monk changed into a yukata and made preparations in this waiting room. Steam is produced using boiling water in this pot. It seems that many monks warmed their bodies by meditating in the steam.

It’s like a modern steam sauna. The entrance is structured like the “nijiriguchi” of a tea room. It’s a very nice structure. It is surprising that this bath was used until the early Showa period. This is the washing area, and it slopes toward the center to drain water.

A special exhibition was held in 2020, but it is currently closed to the public and is not open to the public. There may be special releases in the future, so please check it out. Thank you for watching till the end.
