Stroll around Ishinomaki, a city of manga and fisheries (Japan’s three major fishing grounds) Kotobukicho Street, Bunka Street, Piccola Park Street Ishinomaki City is the second northern coastal city in Miyagi Prefecture. We took a walk around the historic area in front of the station.
With the development of the Ishinomaki Bypass in the old days and the development along Route 45 in the suburbs in recent years, the central shopping area of Ishinomaki has lost its role as the main commercial district and was further damaged by the earthquake. However, the townscape is still rich in flavor and retains the colors of Ishinomaki. Please enjoy such a town tour.

The electric store on the left is the oldest electric store in Ishinomaki. This store was also the base of “Deep Culture Street,” an event to promote new grassroots cultural activities such as art galleries, theaters, craft beer production, etc., with the shopping district.
Manga Gallery. It seems to have been planned in conjunction with the opening of the Ishinomori Manga Museum. It is easy to see that many famous artists are cooperating with the gallery. There was a 1,000 yen gacha shack in a vacant lot.
IThe intersection with Piccola Park Street. Leave Kotobukicho Street and walk along Piccola Park Street from Aitopia Street. Walk along Piccola Park Street from the Ishinomaki Town Bookshelf. The Ishinomaki Town Bookshelf is open on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, and is a space where anyone can freely browse and borrow books to read at home.
Return from “Piccola Park Street” and continue on Kotobukicho shopping street. There is a side street to walk on. It looks like it goes through to Aitopia Street. Return again and continue to Kotobukicho shopping street.
Is this where “Cultural Street” starts? It looks like a place where there used to be a sake brewery, a Kabuki theater and a movie theater, and now there is a local beer brewery and a theater. The brewery “ISHINOMAKI HOP WORKS” and the theater “Theater Kinematika” came into view.
The Ishinomaki Performing Arts Shrine was built when the theater was constructed because Ishinomaki had never had a shrine to pray for the arts before. The shrine is said to have invited “Amenouzume,” the goddess of the arts from the Kashima Mikoshi Shrine.
We have been working for some time to create a town that is primarily a subculture of manga. Art galleries and theaters are on the rise. I hope that the essence of these elements will be added to the downtown area, which is typical of a port town, to create an attractive new town.

今回は石巻市街散策 寿町通り・文化通り・ピッコラパーク通りの動画です。
他地方同様、駅前商店街の衰退傾向に加え、あの大震災。
町並みを揃え、新しい街のありかたに挑み続けている最中です。
以前より進めている「石巻マンガランド基本構想」や「Reborn-Art Festival 」等の取り組みの
エッセンスが盛り込まれた、よそ行きでは無い、ほっこりとした街になるといいですね。
