All right starting our video off today with some  famous Hong kongers because there’s a big statue   of Bruce Lee back there doing a Kung Fu pose  as well as the handprints on the railing here   of Jet Lee who you’ve probably also seen in  some action movies and of course I think the  

Most famous Hong konger of all is Jackie Chan not  to be confused with Jackie Chun because I guess I   saw the wrong handprints first and I thought  oh my gosh I’ve been spelling his name wrong  

My whole life but in fact there are two famous  Hong kongers Jackie Chan as well as Jackie tun   so at any rate come along with us as we explore  Hong Kong today for the first time we wanted to  

Start our video down on this really fantastic uh  Boardwalk here because it gives you a good sense   and a good first impression of Hong Kong for one  from here you can see just how modern this city   is because there are so many beautiful buildings  all around there’s already already been five or  

Six that have caught my attention and for two you  can really see how densely populated Hong Kong is   from this Boardwalk because if you look across  the water here it’s basically 360° all around me   there are tall buildings shoulder Tosh shoulder  and so you’ll see how many people are crammed  

Into this tiny spot and yet you’ll also see how  clean it is here because certainly the boardwalk   has no graffiti and no litter and no vandalism  and it’s very wellmaintained but also I’ve been   really impressed with the color of the water  because I’ve been calling this Waterway a river  

I guess I’ve been corrected it is also a harbor  which typically to me means kind of brown Water   kind of smelly maybe a fish smell but the way the  water is glistening in the sun it’s almost like a  

Caribbean Blue and so it’s quite beautiful to look  at and the sun really is shining today because it   is the end of December now so you can see a bunch  of Christmas decorations around but I guess the  

High today will be 21° so the sun is shining the  water looks great and the city is all around us   and we’re sort of excited to explore Hong Kong  for the first time so uh let’s go come along with

Us so my mom has been here a long time ago like  back in the ’90s and being from Indonesia we   always see Hong Kong as this modern and  advanced place and in fact there is free   public Wi-Fi available everywhere including  here in this open space so every time you use

Walking through our neighborhood actually which  is called cowon and it is in the city center   so one thing you’ll have to get used to here  in Hong Kong especially if you’re staying in   the city center is the amount of foot traffic  because Hong Kong I believe is top five in the  

Entire world of population density so there’s  an incredible amount of people living here and   a foot path like this is not too uncommon in  fact it’s pretty typical for the city center   um I’ve had experience before where I’ve bumped  into to someone had to apologize but I’ve also  

Had experiences where someone has bumed into me  so everyone’s pretty understanding and forgiving   and apologetic but uh it is a really tight  place and certain street corners are like   shoulder-to-shoulder with hundreds and hundreds  of people so at any rate let’s do a City walk  

Here on our way towards a local market and we’ll  see what we can see in the city center of Hong Kong wow I love the Big Trees  here feels like I’m in a city   center but I’m also in a jungle  with all the vines hanging just

Awesome and so Ivon and I were just in  changhai last week and naturally there’s a   lot of similarities from Hong Kong to Shanghai  but I think you can feel here that it used to   be a British colony because for one the street  names are very familiar it’s like Nathan Road  

Or Cameron Avenue or Kennedy or Prince Edward  a lot of the same street names we have in my   city of Toronto actually we’ve even seen dund  Street and for two I think there’s a lot more   multiculturalism Happening Here in Hong Kong so  we’ve seen a lot more white people which I guess  

Is remnants of the British era and even seen a  lot of South Asian people um which I guess were   brought over here by the British because of uh  British India and so there’s mosques and there’s   even guys wearing shell War cames which is the  traditional Pakistani outfit that we saw a lot  

Of in Pakistan and I tell you what this has got  to be one of my favorite things about Hong Kong   right now obviously there’s so much population  density there’s so much development and there   are tall buildings all around and yet to this  day they are sticking with the bamboo scaffold  

I mean it’s unbelievable this building is 20  stories high and I’ve even seen some that are   I’m not kidding like 30 or 40 stories high and  the whole thing is held together when they’re   building it with bamboo and these plastic ties  massive respect to the people who are climbing  

Up and tying it all together I’m sure the people  of Hong Kong know about Metal scaffolding that   we use in Canada or lots of countries but  they’re sticking with the bamboo it’s such   a nice thing to see because it’s like mother  nature does it best you know it’s cheap it’s  

Thin and strong and flexible and it grows right  from the ground shout out to Bamboo scaving on a skyscraper yes is it this one you have pineapple  bun tourist only had a $500 bill that’s all the  

ATM gave me all right we got a classic pineapple  but and egg tart oh gosh D and money it’s funny   because in Hong Kong they call it dollars  oh yeah so it always throws me off because   uh the price is actually fair but when you  buy something it could be like $100 you’re  

Like $100 but it it conver convert like  $7 all right got our breakfast so this   is a classic Hong Kong food I think it’s one of  the most famous ones yes they call it pineapple   bun yeah so it looks just like a regular  bread with some sugar chopping on maybe  

It’s good will there be a pineapple inside  it is the shape of a pineapple like a slice inside tastes like pineapple on top I think yeah   sugary pineapple I don’t know maybe  pineapple jam I have no idea but it’s

Good for me it’s good but I’m sorry to  say nothing special I thought you were   going to say that just is it bread is it  like warm and fresh and tastes like it’s   it’s just regular bread bread regular bread  with sugar on top that tastes a little bit  

Like pineapple okay maybe you can redeem it  with this egg tart it’s cheap and it’s a good   food to go you know maybe you can redeem  it with this egg tart which I’m going to   say reminds me of Portuguese egg tart yeah  that’s right and this I mean how can this be  

Bad this is going to definitely be it’s  very shiny listening like a pie hard to eat that’s the one this one is like very crispy and then inside  it’s like custard so five stars   for me five stars this is good I  like this there you have it okay  

You heard it here first guys Ivana said  it pineapple bun overrated sorry how many stars it’s not bad but good quick food it’s not  great for eight bucks can’t go wrong that’s a   American dollar cost is very good but it’s  alarming right you look at it you go $8 no no  

No that’s one1 American dollar right yes yes this  is another thing they love to do in Hong Kong they   love to write which way the traffic is coming on  the road I guess it’s evidence that there’s no  

Snow here in Hong Kong because in Toronto this  would be useless for like 4 months of the year   covered in snow true true and so I guess it’s also  evidence that uh there’s a lot of one-way streets  

Because it seems like half the roads say look left  and half some them say look right and so from a   tourist perspective it’s sort of helpful because  uh that’s thing I want to do is be talking to the  

GoPro and get hit by a bus so I just look at the  ground and then I know where to look it’s sort of helpful and so I’m going to say this but this  might be the stupidest thing anyone’s ever said  

This taxi is all over Hong Kong there another  one going over here and for some reason for me   it just looks British I mean for one I’ve never  been to Britain so how would I know and for two  

It’s definitely a Toyota which is Japanese  not British but when I see this taxi I think   it looks British and I don’t even know why but at  any rate they’re consistently cheaper than Uber   and so we’ve taken them more than a few times they  always use the meter trustworthy and good I would  

Recommend the quazy British looking I like the  color taxi red and white color scheme always or   red and silver actually and so you can add Hong  Kong to the list of cities that Ivon and I have   seen recently where we really enjoyed the City  walk because we’re quite impressed by just how  

Well things are run I’m thinking of Singapore  and then Shanghai and then Hong Kong those are   three cities we’ve seen in the past months and  all of them are great places for a City Walk I   guess what makes Hong Kong more unique is it looks  like Hong Kong was developed maybe a generation  

Or two before those other places because some  of the buildings are relatively rund down and   they sort of look like they could use a Fresh  coat of paint and so to put a positive spin   on it I would say I think Hong Kong has more  character than other places because it looks  

Like the buildings have seen a few Winters and  even the foot path is the same we’ve seen many   people cleaning the foot path it’s very clean and  very wellmaintained but it does look like it was  

Put down uh many hundreds of thousands of steps  ago and so it’s uh been used and sort of worn   in but still very impressive and clean and so in  any case uh you can add Hong Kong to the list of  

Cities that for a CityWalk is just great because  feels like you can wander anywhere you want and   you won’t end up in some sort of broken dirty  uh homelessness drug addicted place where it’s   unsafe uh but with that being said this is an  interesting thing to see look at that because  

This is why Ivana says Hong Kong feels a bit  like where East Asia meets southeast Asia cuz   this kind of night market here is very familiar  to Jakarta or Thailand or anywhere in Southeast   Asia and so it’s sort of interesting that it’s  tucked away inside this really modern and really  

Quite impressive City so let’s go check out  the market honestly I might buy sunglasses   I didn’t bring my sunglasses today they’re  in the house because I thought it was winter   time 21° the weather’s so good so uh let’s go  browse the market and see what we can see let’s

Go and so I sort of expected these supports to  be made from bamboo I’m kind of disappointed   that they’re made from metal actually but  of course some uh Bruce Lee shirts iHeart   HK and actually a lot of these stalls are  sort of similar to what we’ve seen in Hong  

Kong so far they’re pretty narrow stalls  and pretty tall so it sort of speaks to   this kind of vertical build that Hong  Kong has because of the uh population   density and they’re so tightly packed all  the shop shops they’re really maximizing the space they look like ladies they look like ladies  

Right yeah maybe this is not the  right market for sunglasses oh over here you know what I’m thinking you what this  is a scenario where we got to negotiate the   price yes I think so maybe we’ll just go home  and get mine I’m going to get scanned for sure  

I’m going to overpay I Know It All right so the  sunglasses hunt was a bit of a fail nonetheless   it’s an pretty action-packed Market with lots of  stuff around so it’s a good experience and so next  

We’re going to head up to the peak which should  hopefully provide a really good view of Hong Kong   and for that we have to cross the water and go on  to Hong Kong Island which first means going on the  

Metro which actually sometimes here in Hong Kong  they call Subway yes I’ve seen signs saying Subway   which is very familiar to me I’ve sort of learned  to not say subway anymore because most people   in the world when they think Subway they think  sandwiches when they think train they think Metro  

Uh nevertheless they call it Subway sometimes here  in Hong Kong and we’re about to get on it so let’s   go all right so we’ll get on here at Mong coock  station which I guess is part of the red line and  

Again sort of the same thing I was saying earlier  uh clearly a nice Metro perfectly clean but you   can tell by the tiles it’s a little bit older so  it’s still impressive but it’s not brand new uh  

Like Shanghai or Singapore while still being very  impressive and uh quite robust as you’ll see when   we show you the map here to be honest it reminds  me of Toronto subway it reminds me of Toronto  

Subway if Toronto subway was cleaner and better  oh yeah if it was properly run you know it’s like   it’s like Toronto subway especially cuz the red  and white is the same color as TTC but it’s like  

Toronto subway if the Toronto subway were properly  managed I think and so the first thing we’ll do   is we’ll buy some tickets which we can just click  on that map we want to go to Central which should

Be here click there boom got it oh and then we  can go multiple two two 30 bucks which sounds like   a lot but with conversion it’s quite affordable  that’s right come on change yeah oh $10 bill okay  

There’s a $10 coin and a $10 bill by the way I  love it because it’s a so colorful blue and purple   and pink yeah and plastic too probably waterproof  come on plastic money okay let’s go let’s [Music] [Music] goine line two line your attention  please eating or drinking is not allowed  

In the paid areas of stations or in trains oh  look at that there’s a line right there we’re   still going down I think there’s a green line  here so I think there’s actually three lines   connected here there’s a one the two and the four  I believe yeah quite deep actually my ears just

Popped and like I said guys it’s surprisingly  clean it might not be brand new but it is uh   perfectly maintained no garbage no litter  no vandalism almost lost my wife there jeez pretty crowded what time is it now like 2:00  p.m. 1 something W even at 1: p.m. is this full  

Bet your rush hour is even more so I mean that’s  pretty full for 1: p.m. and so here’s the full   metro map you can see it’s pretty darn robust  especially for a city of only 7 million people  

It’s got a lot of lines wi in every direction  and it’s impressive that so many of the lines   cross over the water in fact right now as we’re  in this tunnel we might be in a Tunnel underwater  

I’m not sure I didn’t see a bridge but I know  for sure we are going to Hong Kong Island which   means we’re on that Red Line crossing the water  uh not sure if there’s a tunnel underneath the  

Water which would be super aggressive for to  the bridge but at any rate I think a lot of   Hong Kong residents rely on the train every  day is affordable and it’s full of people as   you can see and actually it’s surprisingly  windy in here no yeah it’s colder here than  

Outside it’s way colder in here hey good thing I  brought my winter hat it’s cold in here [Music] Man and so overall Hong Kong Metro is very  impressive and pretty great and ifon and I   are pretty sure we just took a tonel underwater  because we’re definitely on the island now and   we didn’t take a bridge and we were underground  in the cold for like a long stretch yeah which  

Is doubly impressive I have no idea how to  build a tunnel underwat what I can tell you   is if they use those bamboo sticks to build  a tunnel under water the greatest engineers  

In the whole world uh at any rate let’s go find  the tram which take us up to the top called the   peak I’m a bit lost there’s I think there’s  four lines over here maybe five it’s a big  

Subway trouble is when you’re underground the  GPS doesn’t work great so you want to figure   out which exit to go to there’s exit ABCDE  e FG h k up to L just what is that 15 exits  

So there’s walking paths going every direction  and we can’t figure out which one to go on cuz   the GPS no good underground all right let’s  try to go up go up top and get the GPS yes

Exactly all right so I think we’re on the right  track peak train that way but before we even get   that far my first impressions of Hong Kong  Island is like oh my gosh what a nice place   everywhere you look it’s awesome nice mix of  greenery with tall buildings and uh really  

Beautiful architecture I’m impressed with Hong  Kong Island this building here is uh something   special actually you know what this is this has  got to be the headquarters of uh aquina like   the sa water right look like a sixpack of water  with a tight plastic squeezed on it isn’t it cool  

Looking building man oh my gosh I was impressed  with the Hong Kong CityWalk or Hong Kong Island   CityWalk it’s not to be forgotten first of all  tons of big trees here huge Cathedral equipped   with bamboo supports for renovation which I love  and so many great looking buildings uh big fan  

Of of the CityWalk here in Hong Kong Island I  tell you what thank goodness for these signs   that are everywhere we wander we’ve already  seen three or four that say Peak trim because   we are truly wering Ivana and I we are like  classic tourists looking up in amazement at  

Everything and yet somehow we’re still not lost  so I think we’re almost at the tram let’s check   it out this has got to be the place Iana the  Peak Tram let’s check it out must be here oh my

Popular all right so a bit of a museum as we  were waiting in line which was pretty great and   made the weight enjoyable although to be clear  the weight was pretty quick uh probably 100 or  

200 people in front of us but uh the line moved  very quickly because I guess every tram holds 120   people now to pay for the ticket we actually put  our Visa card right on the counter and the tap to  

Pay is right on the counter which in hindsight is  not that impressive technology just move the tap   payment underneath the counter but at the moment  when it happened I was like wow so impressive   first time we saw it first time I saw that where  they counter is the payment uh nevertheless let’s  

Get on the train actually it feels like we’re  going to spaceship somehow futuristic tunnel   here know yeah we make it on this trend think so I  think so think we can it holds like 100 something

People now we got a choice to make want say  on this side or on that side cold side or   for side at this point I think we’ll see why we  get where is the view going to be better is the question good I’m excited for  this and I love the trim with  

The glass on the ceiling and on both  sides it’s going to be a beautiful view think we’re waving at  strangers yeah every’s having fun That’s it minutes I think it’s less than 5 minutes  I think it was 2 minutes and we got the wrong   side that’s the good side yeah all right so I’m  going to go ahead and say this and I’m sure all  

Of the locals from Hong Kong who are watching  this video already know this but that tram is   overpriced overcrowded and overrated but listen  I’m over it because we’ve made it to the peak  

Which is a pretty special place I guess the tram  sets you out in sort of like a mall which has got   some beautiful decorations and some stores all  around but outside of the mall there’s a bunch   of really great buildings and viewpoints  and it’s a really great place for tourists  

And locals alike to hang out and sort of admire  the beauty of Hong Kong so let’s check out the Peak and so in the end Ivana and I are not too  disappointed that we took the TR because it is   a tourist experience and we figured we would try  it once but the thing is whether you take a taxi  

To get up here or whether you take a small hike  and go by foot the views are so good from the   peak that we didn’t think it was necessary so  in the end Ivan and I poked our nose around the  

Peak and we saw a bunch of malls and things for  sale and I guess the sort of crown jeel is this   building here which now that I think of it sort  of looks like the Marina Bay Hotel in Singapore  

And it is a Viewpoint that costs I think about  $10 Amic per person for people to see but but   because we had such good views from all around the  peak we decided to skip it because like I said the  

Views are so good from all around the peak and the  more you look at Hong Kong it sort of reminds me   in a different sort of way of Rio De Janeiro  because it’s got these big green sort of not  

Mountains but big boulders poking up with all the  big buildings in between and some really beautiful   bays and inlets and water everywhere obviously  Rio is tropical and different but uh as you guys   know I’ve said before Rio de Janeiro is the most  beautiful big city in the world true so when I  

Say Hong Kong looks sort of like real what I’m  saying is Hong Kong is very beautiful also it is   the Skyland is gorgeous with all the skyscrapers  it’s just beautiful very nice and the water is so   surprisingly blue that it’s uh really something  special and so Ivon and I have elected to take  

The hike which I don’t think it’s very long less  less than an hour on the way down and so we’ll   see if we can get some more views as we uh enjoy  Hong Kong from the sky so come along with us and  

Hopefully on the hike we can burn some calories  and free up some space because I’m getting hungry   and maybe we will go for lunch at the bottom  yes I should say dinner at the bottom yeah let’s

Go I tell you what huge fan of the hike down from  the peak I really can’t say enough of the views   obviously we’re on our way down but somehow  the views are getting better and better and  

It’s such a different perspective of Hong Kong  than from in the city CU when you’re down there   at ground level feels like the concrete jungle  goes on forever and it’s just endless buildings   but from up here you can see a whole lot of  green space and in fact there are more than  

120 Islands in Hong Kong and from up here it  gives you a total different vantage point of   all the green sort of Hills all around uh quite  a beautiful place I’m really falling in love with  

Hong Kong but I am getting very hungry so let’s  hurry up on this hike and get some [Music] food   wild Bo sped yeah so cute right there on the P  wow wild Boors yo should I be S scared of this  

I don’t know I I’m not scared but they charge  me I will scream and run I think maybe they’re   used to human maybe I don’t know wow what do  wild boys eat like ants and stuff like worms  

I know leaves I got no idea he found a big piece  of meat from the garbage wow he’s in heaven right   now my goodness now right now I guess now we know  what they eat they eat they eat cow legs straight  

From the butcher they made por here it’s got to  be 300 bucks of meat right there no who put that   there my goodness look at this WOW his friends are  never going to believe him I know and he’s alone I  

Found a whole G alone sure you did Buddy normally  they come in like 10 they come in a group but he’s Alone all right we are going to take what  it’s called the central midlevel escalator   but going down there’s no escalator I think  it’s only for going up Steve there’s one for   going up but nothing for going down okay  it is supposed to be the longest outdoor  

Escalator in the world but we were hoping  they would have escalator to go down too   well sorry to disappoint you we just at like  an hour hiking or something from the peak I   got noodle legs all right now hopefully we will  make it to our dinner all the Mitchell and God

Winner it’s funny e melling is a tire guy yeah  I don’t know how it started I think the idea   is like it’s worth driving for or something like  this I don’t know how it started but anyway I’m  

So hungry let’s eat let eat at a Michelin star  restaurant our first time yo the Food comes so   fast so fast I guess because they got a  small menu they can make it very quickly   yeah only noodles that’s their only thing it  looks so good actually a little bit of spice

Yes we’ve been hungry we’ve been hungry  yeah the bowl is a little bit small true   fact yeah but just looks good yeah not exactly  a cold day but a long day so we’re ready to eat what you got there wanton  and verelli oh my gosh table

Wanton uh shrim shrim shrim one it’s okay it’s  not 5 minutes it’s good the shm t is good yeah   pretty good I would give it maybe four out  of five four stars yeah it’s a melin store   well you got high standards you want still  good though I like it it’s um the wanton  

Itself is quite plump and juicy so I like that  but the noodles there’s nothing special about   the noodles I don’t know if it’s handmade or  anything and the broad is quite good so um I   will give five stars for for the broth and the  won but four stars for you’re a Critic Ivana  

You’re a hard hard one to please man it’s good  though we were so hungry yeah let’s eat man let’s eat good honestly it’s good but what’s up with the  Michigan stares we had some at some random place  

A couple days ago random little shop with yellow  tables remember right I think was better over   there wow yeah I’m not sure yeah how do you get  the Michelin start I’m so curious it might just  

Be marketing to be clear it’s good food but when  I heard Michelin star I thought my head it was   going to Expos now let me end the video by doing  five things I noticed okay rapid fire one a lot  

Of really good-looking dogs in Hong Kong oh yeah  I think Hong Kong people are good dog owners yes   I think so two I think Hong Kong people are the  best in the world at lining up TR place there was  

Like an open area where there could have been a  big mob and automatically people just made four   lines right also we went to the ATM perfectly  formed line true three Hong Kong weather I think   it’s the goldilock Zone Shanghai is too cold  Singapore is too hot Hong Kong is just right  

Uh four Hong people so exercising jogging up the  hills honestly walking on these Hills is so tiring   especially downhill because your foot slides in  the front of your shoe and my toes are hurting   yes Hong Kong people are running around the hills  they’re in good shape suggestion they should build  

An escalator to go down to the world’s longest  escalator is still pretty impressive but it’s only   going up uh and then overall honestly I I think  I fell in love with Hong Kong yes place a good  

Balance of east and west and also a good balance  of uh just City Life and also nature yeah and also   it’s very fancy and clean but still feels more  real I can live here right right right Singapore  

It’s like you can’t do anything wrong or Shanghai  It Feels So Perfect it’s like don’t even fart or   anything he got characters here more vintage more  character but also modern and very POS at the  

Same time big fan of Hong yes seriously nice place  anyway let’s eat let’s eat to be clear the soup is   a lot better when you pour in a bunch of flavor  I think I ate it too plain the first time but  

You make it spicy and then that’s vinegar and soy  sauce is good soup I was being a bit too harsh but   no I like it it’s good okay but I’m not sure about  the Michel and stuff like how do you get that you  

Know but the flavor is pretty good yeah it’s good  we came just in time before the lineup started   just beat the dinner rush we came at like 5:00  p.m. so I think people just got off work and came  

Right here yeah now it’s like 5:20 and everyone’s  there yeah now everyone is lining up to get in   maybe I was a bit tired and hungry from the hike  it was a bit harsh but it was only okay bit harsh

Our First time in Hong Kong!
Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China.
We walked our way from Avenue of Stars overlooking Victoria Harbour, all the way to a traditional market called the Ladies Market in Kowloon. Then we took the subway to go to Hong Kong Island, and to Victoria Peak. We knew that Hong Kong is a concrete jungle, with the most skyscrapers in the world. But we did not expect it to be so green! we were pleasantly surprised by the view from The Peak.
