For this year-end trip abroad, we chose to go to Canada and the United States. The main purpose is to go to Canada to see the Aurora! (*´∀`*)/ If you want to see the Aurora in Canada, there is a place called “Yellow Knife Town”.

It is said that the aurora can be seen about 240 days out of 365 days a year. Considering that the time you can stay is not very long, I chose the place with the greatest chance to see it! Let me explain why this route is flown like this.

By the way, this time we used ANA miles to exchange for air tickets to and from Japan and North America. Then…if you want to go to Yellowknife, you must first go to a Canadian city. So we flew to Vancouver first. For the flight from Vancouver to Yellowknife, United Airlines miles are exchanged, and

The route that can be exchanged is to transfer in the city of “Edmonton”. We took the ANA direct flight from Haneda to Vancouver, which was very comfortable! The in-flight food was delicious and the service was great, but there was no in-flight entertainment.

I went to sleep or saved more videos on my phone to watch. We flew smoothly to Vancouver…. Vancouver welcomes you . When we arrived at Vancouver Airport, the first thing that impressed me most was the most. The best thing is that their passport control is almost fully automated! !

After walking over, you choose your own language, scan your passport , and fingerprint and take photos. Anyway, you do it all by yourself through the machine. Because we only stayed in Vancouver for one night, we chose to stay at the holiday inn near the airport.

There is a shuttle bus next to the airport . Due to the time difference, we departed from Japan on December 26th and arrived in Vancouver on the 26th. Because there is a large shopping mall near the airport, many people go shopping there on boxing day. There’s a huge traffic jam nearby!

It’s usually only a 5-minute drive away… After we contacted each other… the whole trip was planned to come back to Vancouver after watching the aurora, and at that time we were going to the city. So I didn’t choose to take the tram to the city this time.

Otherwise, you can go to the city in an hour… It’s a big room, but some of the things are very basic. But their beds are super soft… If you have back pain… it may not be suitable (laughs). Since the accommodation area is far away from downtown Vancouver,

There are not so many shops or businesses to visit. We went to the “Aberdeen Center” Times Square near the hotel to stroll around. It’s not quite like a European or American mall… the overall feel is quite Asian, and I also found many Asian restaurants.

The unit price of the meal is not cheap, but the quantity is very large! ! There are probably more than four bowls of white rice under the purchased meal… In fact, we can share it together… After returning to the room in the evening, we started to have jet lag…

We got up at two or three in the middle of the night… I couldn’t sleep much after that. Early the next morning, we returned to the airport to prepare for our transfer to Edmonton. When taking their domestic flights in Canada, the overall feeling is not much different from the international flights.

Before boarding, everyone must show their ID, and for foreigners, their passport. If you carry bottles, cans, and liquids, put them in a transparent zipper bag. Although we arrived at the airport early in the morning, we still used the Air Canada lounge. Very European and American style VIP room.

It happened to be breakfast time, so we mainly served breakfast, bagels, waffles, etc. Because the transfer time is long, there is the largest mall in North America in Edmonton, so we plan to go there. Basically you take a bus from the airport to the city. The bus fare is not very expensive,

But because the shopping mall we want to go to requires a transfer in the city, the total bus ride takes about an hour. Everyone who gets off at that stop should be going to the same shopping mall. So we just followed the crowd and walked in. There are many restaurants & businesses…

It feels like an ordinary shopping mall. Because actually we didn’t go all the way into the store… but just walking around the entire mall took us about an hour! There is also… We actually only have one suitcase, so there is no place to put the shopping…

So we can’t buy anything along the way (crying) Even if we see a lot of cheap shoes and clothes, we can only endure it. In the end, we only chose to have lunch in the food court and then returned to the airport! After eating, we took the bus back to the airport.

After arriving at the airport, it was finally time to head to Yellowknife! Because the plane is a small plane, it is better to check the baggage as much as possible if it can be checked. The storage space above the seat is very small! It’s hard to fit anything that’s too big!

At this time we are finally arriving at Yellowknife Town (it’s quite far away). We have joined a local group. They will not follow us all the time, but (joining a local group) will probably help us do a few things, including Round trip transfer from airport to hotel.

Second, rent winter clothing for local needs in Yellowknife. We will prepare cold-weather clothing and other items that ordinary people don’t have (we will unpack them in the next episode) . This time we chose to stay in the “Xincheng District” of Huangdao Town, which is closer to the airport.

We chose a relatively simple small hotel. That’s it for this episode! Let’s see if we can successfully see the aurora later!
