大阪都心の名庭園【四天王寺極楽浄土の庭】明治の洋風建築八角亭は、内国勧業博覧会から移築された唯一の現存する建物 重要文化財の五智光院、湯屋方丈もある四季折々に美しい庭園です。
Hello. This is the “Chia’s Outing” channel where she travels hard without a car. This time we will show you the beautiful autumn scenery of the Gokuraku Jodo Garden at Shitennoji Temple in Osaka. The Octagonal Pavilion, the only remaining building from the 5th National Industrial Exhibition, is wonderful.
I’ve been to Shitennoji many times, and I thought there was a garden for a fee, but since the entrance fee is only 300 yen, I thought it wouldn’t be a big deal, so I never went. I finally went to the Garden of Paradise. It was a very nice and beautiful garden.
When I looked at the map, I saw that it was towards Dongdaemun, so when I went there, all the entrances in that area were closed and I couldn’t get in. Return to the turtle pond and turn north. There was only one entrance here.
The opening hours may vary depending on the season, or the park may be closed. Gochiko-in Temple, located on the left after paying the entrance fee, was originally built by the Cloistered Emperor Goshirakawa. The current hall was rebuilt by Hidetada Tokugawa and was designated as a national important cultural property in 1954.
You cannot pass through the Kanbokumon gate on the right. Enter the garden through the gate where you can see the bright ginkgo trees. It’s December 9th, the last day of autumn. This is the guest hall of Honbo. The corridor that connects Anyoden and Gochikoin is beautiful.
It seems that various events such as lectures are held at Anyangjeon Hall. The garden of Gokuraku Jodo was originally designed in 1933 by Sosen Kizu Kosai, the third generation of the Mushakoji Senke tea master Kizu family.
The original garden, which was characterized by a long river and pond that ran across the garden area, was not open to the public for a long time, but in 2003, while inheriting the basic structure, it was renovated and renovated based on the Buddhist story described below. was held.
It was also opened to the public on this occasion. The current structure of the garden is based on the tale of “Two Rivers and White Paths,” which was preached by the Chinese monk Shantao during the Tang Dynasty.
The two rivers that flow through the garden are the “water river”, which represents the greed and attachment of sentient beings, and the “kaga”, which represents resentment and hatred.Between them is the “
White path”, which represents the goodness and faith of sentient beings, and the lotus pond “Gokuraku”. I ended up at the “Pure Land Pond”.
As the legend goes, pilgrims walk along the white approach path, which is narrow so as not to fall into the Two Rivers, towards the pond of Paradise Pure Land, where they are greeted by the Amida Triad stone enshrined in the pond.
In addition, the garden has a variety of seasonal features, including cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, and in summer you can see the lotus flowers that grow throughout the Gokuraku Jodo Pond. In the northeast corner of the garden, “Shoichii Aryo Inari Daimyojin” is enshrined, and in the shrine to the left is Dakuniten.
In the past, similar shrines were enshrined in several places, but they were burnt down during the Haibutsu Kishaku movement and the Great Osaka Air Raid, and the only remaining shrine is this Aranyo Inari in the northeast corner, which is the so-called guardian deity of Kimon.
If you follow the route past Inari Shrine, you will come to Seiryu-tei, Rinchi-tei, and Waso-an. Washoan was built in the Sukiya-zukuri style in 1972 with a donation from the late Konosuke Matsushita, and inside the hermitage there is a 10-tatami tatami room and table seats, so you can enjoy tea while feeling the atmosphere.
The pond on the north side is the lapis lazuli pond. As explained earlier, a river of water connects Lazuli Pond and Paradise Pond, and a white path runs between them. Once you get to the top, you’ll see the Yuya Hojo, but once you’ve climbed up, you’ll see the Yuya Hojo later, and
Go down while looking at Gokuraku Pond and Hakkakutei from the top. The reason I came to the garden of Gokuraku Jodo this time was when I went to the Expo and Buddhism exhibit at the Takashimaya Museum,
I saw a photo of Octagonal Pavilion from the 5th National Industrial Exhibition, and I saw that it had been relocated to Shitennoji Temple. It was because I knew. I like retro architecture, so I wanted to come and see it.
The pamphlet called this a “Thousand Killer Monument,” but only the name is listed, so I’m not sure of its origin. A blue octagonal pavilion came into view. Autumn leaves, a pond, and a cute Western-style building. It is nice.
Octagonal Pavilion is a structure that was built as a small concert hall for the 5th National Industrial Exhibition, which was held at the Tennoji venue in Osaka in 1903. After the exposition ended, this building was taken over by Shitennoji, but there are no buildings left from the exposition except for this Octagonal Pavilion.
For this reason, it was designated as a registered cultural property in July 1997 as a valuable Meiji-era building. Octagonal-tei is a Renaissance-style octagonal building with open-air eaves, a decoration called a bargeboard on the eaves, and colored glass in the windows.
The main pillars have Corinthian capitals that wrap around the edges of the molding. If you look at it from here, you can clearly see the color of the glass. I couldn’t go inside, so I took pictures of the inside through the window.
Since it is called a small concert hall, I wonder if performances were held here. Octagonal Pavilion is what brought me to this garden. I’m glad I was able to see it during the beautiful autumn leaves season. The combination of Gokuraku Pond, Octakutei, and Harukas is also good.
It is said that lotus flowers bloom in this pond in the summer. I would love to visit there sometime around that time and see what it truly is like in the Pure Land of Paradise.
The stones in the pond are Amida Triad stones, where sentient beings who have walked the white path are greeted. What you can see over there is Dongdaemun. It seems that this country also has a garden of Honbo, but you cannot enter beyond this point.
Isshin Okami is another name for Benzaiten, and Benzaiten, the white dragon with Ugajin at its head, is enshrined inside the shrine. This garden is called Fudaraku Garden (Kannon Jodo). I forgot to go all the way. Yuya Hojo is a nationally important cultural property. Rebuilt in 1623 by Tokugawa Hidetada.
Hojo refers to the chief priest’s living room, and this is where Tenkai Daisojo resided while working at Shitennoji Temple.
Yuya means a bath. When it was first rebuilt, it was built on the east side of the cafeteria behind Rokujido, but in 1909, the alcove and uneven shelves were renovated and moved to its current location. Currently, it is also used as a worship hall for the Jukai Kanjokai held every May.
Now we have completed a tour of the garden of the Pure Land of Paradise. The garden between the Yuya Hojo and the reception hall does not have a particular name, but the carpet of fallen ginkgo leaves that can only be seen at this time of year was very beautiful.
This stone chozubachi was also beautifully decorated with fallen leaves. I come to Shitennoji from time to time, so from now on I would like to stop by this garden and enjoy the beauty of each season. It seems that the cherry blossoms are also very beautiful.
After leaving the garden of Gokuraku Jodo, I will go to the main temple for a while. I heard that you can’t usually go into the main temple, but when I paid the entrance fee, the person in charge told me that there
Was a Buddhist painting exhibition going on today, so if you have time, you can enter the main temple, so be sure to check it out. I was asked to go, so I decided to go and see it.
It was fun to see all kinds of paintings of Buddha by people who love Buddhist paintings, but I realized that the garden seen from inside the building was so beautiful that I hadn’t really looked at it properly, and I was impressed by the ginkgo
Carpet and hands. I went to take a photo of the water bowl. The nearest station to Shitennoji is Shitennoji Yuhigaoka on the Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line. There are many stylish and delicious restaurants, but on that day, I went to Maruha Chiarare and bought some Okaki. There are many types and I recommend them.
Near Shitennoji Temple, there are Mt. Chausu, Kawazoko Pond, Keisakuen Garden, and Osaka City Museum of Art (although it is closed), so I would be happy if you could watch a video of a walk around the area. Thank you for your viewing. Please rate highly and subscribe to the channel.
