👋 Hello! Today, Jiji goes to Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan! It’s New Year’s Eve and we went for a long walk around different areas in Yokohama~ We started from the Yokohama Chinatown, which is one of the biggest Chinatowns in the world, and then walked around Yamashita Park, which is only about 5 minutes. And then scouted Osanbashi Hall to see where we should stay for the fireworks display at midnight. This was our first time in Osanbashi Hall and we thought this place was really cool! There is an on-going illumination event which made it so beautiful to walk around at night, but we can also imagine how this pier is also utilized by the locals and tourist as a place to just hangout. The rooftop deck is called “Whale’s Back” because it is shaped like a whale’s back from an aerial view, with so many levels and steps, yet still making it accessible for many people~ Since we arrived a little bit early in the evening, we decided to head towards the Red Brick Warehouse and Shinko Chuo Square to check out the Yorunoyo 2024 illumination spectacle, which synchronizes the city with music and lights at night.
Throughout the video, we also shared some of the photos that Jiji took that night. And we also provided timestamps of the places that we visited, so feel free to check them out and skip to the parts you would like to see 👇🏼

📍 YOKOHAMA PORT OSANBASHI, one of Japan’s largest international passenger ship terminals, is where the New Year’s Eve fireworks event takes place. They features a display of fireworks over Yokohama Bay, creating a stunning backdrop with the city’s skyline and the iconic Yokohama Landmark Tower. As the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Day, ships docked at the port collectively sound their horns, marking the dawn of the new year.
Moreover, on January 1st, immediately following the ship horns, a breathtaking three-minute fireworks display illuminates both the Shinminato Pier and Osanbashi. This dazzling spectacle is part of the “Yokohama Sparkling Twilight” festivities, which include projection mapping at Osanbashi and Shinminato Central Square, along with captivating illuminations throughout the Yamashita Park area, enhancing the vibrancy of Yokohama. For an unforgettable experience, consider embarking on a countdown cruise around the bay area to fully immerse yourself in the festive celebrations.
