Aso-Miyazaki Today, heading from Aso to Miyazaki The morning destination is Takachiho Gorge in Miyazaki Prefecture. More and more winding roads. Driving, it’s important to be mindful of safety, especially during winter. This is a stretch of continuous curves.

At 11:15 when we arrived, the control personnel informed us that the Miyashioi Parking Lot was already full. The Miyashioi Parking Lot is the closest parking lot to the boating area of Takachiho Gorge. We had to park at the outermost Daihashi Parking Lot. It looks quite far on the map.

The only advantage is that parking is free. We booked a rowing session for 11:30 am. We have just over 10 minutes left. It seems like we might not make it in time. >< This journey marks the beginning of today's challenges. There are signs along the way. Walking this stretch in the summer can be quite challenging. Finally, we can see the scenery of the stream and the valley. Later, we found out that there are over 260 stone steps from the Daihashi Parking Lot to the Shinkyo Bridge. I would advise everyone to try to arrive early... make sure to secure a spot at the Miyashioi Parking Lot. Otherwise, you'll end up expending your energy just at the beginning of the journey. This is the Miyashioi Parking Lot. This is the ticket counter. If you have a reservation, you can collect your number tag here and proceed to boating. The capacity of one boat is three passengers. Including preschool children, a maximum of four passengers are allowed. Rowing costs JPY 5,100 per boat for 30 minutes. I've never rowed a boat before, it can be a bit confusing at first not knowing how to operate it. we going in circles without making much progress. rowing in the opposite direction XD The staff had to come over and help. Back to square one... a bit embarrassing!! This gentleman patiently taught dad how to row. With only 30 minutes for boating, we've already spent 10 minutes here XD. The staff member even called out to papa from a distance and demonstrated with gestures. Finally heard an 'OK' XD. Once you know the trick, it becomes smoother. Wasis: Hurry back~~~ Wadad: Why? Wasis: It's scary. Wasis finds rowing scarier than a pirate ship So, we quickly rowed back Cute ducks! Walking onto the bridge to take pictures of the gorge. This waterfall gives me a refreshing feeling. You can capture this kind of scenery from the bridge. This is the 'Miyabashi' (Miyabashi Bridge). Miyabashi is the main spot for capturing the classic scenery of Takachiho Gorge. The interplay of the rainbow and the waterfall is truly beautiful. In August, the midday feels like the temperature is 40°C. Just the thought of walking back to the Daihashi Parking Lot along the same path makes me feel like I'm going to melt. Wasis can still laugh here. Already exhausted halfway through." Takachiho Ohashi Bridge Getting ready to depart for Kumamoto. Takachiho Gorge - Kumamoto After about a 2-hour drive, we arrived in Kumamoto. We are looking for an Ichiraku Ramen in Kumamoto. The sign of this ramen shop is very inconspicuous. Ichiraku Ramen - Kumamoto Shimotori Store We walked back and forth twice before finally spotting it. The shop is located on B1F. The kids finally got to enjoy the anticipated Ichiraku Ramen. No matter where you eat it, the taste is always the same and delicious. What fascinated me the most on the streets of Kumamoto City was the tram. Different types of tram exteriors. The afternoon destination is to visit Kumamoto Castle. The map was clear, but somehow we still managed to get lost. Spent a long time studying the map and still ended up going the wrong way @@. The arrow pointed left, but we went to the right ><. Went the wrong way and couldn't find the entrance. Went around half of Kumamoto Castle before turning back to find the entrance. Moat After entering the park, we saw the main keep of Kumamoto Castle. It's still hot at 5:00 in the afternoon. Some sections have elevators available. It can save some leg strength. Some buildings still show traces of the fire. After passing through this short tunnel, we'll reach the main keep. That's it! The main keep, or Tenshukaku. They were spraying water all around on the platform square to cool down the temperature. Entering the interior of the main keep. The castle has air conditioning – that's great. The content mainly focuses on the historical exhibition of Kumamoto Castle. Arriving at the highest floor, you can overlook the city of Kumamoto. When we visited, the elevators inside the castle were not operational, so we climbed stairs throughout the entire way up. Walking back the same way to the exit. Sakura Street Finally, the day of testing our leg endurance comes to an end. Tonight's accommodation is FAV Hotel Kumamoto. This room type can accommodate up to six people. There is a washing machine in the room. No need to stand in the bathtub for a shower. There is also a kitchenette, an electric kettle, and a microwave. The bathroom and toilet are separate. The fridge has a spacious interior. The accommodation costs JPY 23,746 per night. The hotel itself has only four parking spaces, and parking is chargeable. Nearby parking lots are also convenient and comparatively more affordable. Goodbye, Kumamoto!
