Explorando a BELEZA da cidade MEDIEVAL de Brasov | ROMÊNIA 🇷🇴

And in today’s video, we’re going to explore one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. And it’s in the heart of this region. Welcome to Brașov! Our video starts here at the Council Square, which, if you search about Brașov, will be the main square. This is where basically everything happens, all the restaurants.

And this one, as Bia said, was a medieval city. So in this square is where the executions took place, anyway, all the announcements of the city were made here in this square. And behind me there is a museum, which is now located in the middle of the city.

And at this time that we came here to the square, it’s completely empty like this, but it usually gets quite busy. I think later it will be much more crowded, with the restaurants open.

And another cool thing about here is that it’s usually the square where fairs, events, anything that’s going to happen in the city takes place when we arrived, the first time we came here, there was a little fair going on, all in this area here so we’re surprised that it’s kind of empty now

Although in Cluj we were already in the Transylvania region here in Brașov we’re in the center of everything, right? so the mountains here in the background with the colorful houses wow, it gives a totally different view from what we understood as well, the origin of the name Brașov

A little earlier, in German, it was a name that meant crown so it was kind of the city of the crown And right up here you can already see the symbol of Brașov a branch with its roots and a crown symbolizing royalty on top with the crown

Below, nature because Brașov is surrounded by mountains and nature and right there next to where we were in the square There is another super important point here in Brașov, which is the Black Church. And it got this name because in the 17th century

There was a fire here in Brașov that devastated the city. And it left it practically black with so many burn marks. Although it has been restored, there are several parts that have already been renovated. but there are still some where you can see the marks from the fire

And it’s huge, it really stands out here in the city because everything is kind of short and it’s gigantic, right in the center and it’s also one of the biggest Gothic churches in Europe

And one really beautiful thing is that it has two clocks, one on this side and one on this side, that are very colorful there are some drawings, characters, some writings in… I don’t even think it’s Romanian Latin Latin And it’s very beautiful, they are very colorful Even the hands are golden

The church is very beautiful, it’s really beautiful And from what we saw, the photo is really beautiful inside If I’m not mistaken, one of the largest organs in Europe is inside here It costs 20 LEI to enter, but it’s closed today So we won’t be able to go in and show it

Is there a triathlon going on? In this cold weather! Hey, Bianca, is it cold? Oh my goodness, I’m getting goosebumps just from seeing people running like crazy. There’s always something happening around here. Yes, and I thought it was really cool that there’s an uncle riding a bike in front like that,

Honking at people to get out of the way. Yeah, because they’re passing through the middle of the street, like, in the middle of the square, anyway. Where it’s not a race track, it’s right in the middle of the city. Crazy, but it’s really awesome.

And one thing that is quite common here in Romania, here in Brașov it’s less than in Cluj, but these are the bakeries that have… it’s just a small door usually, this one is even a bit bigger. So we got a croissant and… I don’t know what this is, there was no description

At all. It said “traditional”. We’ll find out in due time! Ham and cheese Too good, it’s warm And probably one of the most well-known spots in Brașov if you research about the city You will see that at the top of this mountain there is a symbol written Brașov, like the Hollywood sign.

Surely Hollywood copied from Brașov, right? But you can also hike up there, walking. But since it rained yesterday, we won’t do it. However, you can take a cable car, it takes you to the top and behind the sign. and that’s what we’re going to do now, let’s go!

And one detail that we always have to be aware of here in Romania is that it’s the country with the most brown bears here in Europe so there’s even a little sign here look at the little bear there, look Yeah, from what we looked for

The trail to climb up to the symbol of Brașov is there bears almost never come around here, but they are around, right, there’s a possibility besides them, there are several other little animals, but I think what’s most scary is encountering a bear. Are we going to encounter a bear today?

No, we’re going to that little house up there. Everything will be fine. And here are all the schedules already. Usually it’s from 9:30 am to 5 pm every day. Thank you. And we bought the ticket and it’s 30 LEI per person to go up and down. We’re going on the Coca-Cola one.

It’s good because we’ll be able to enter first. Good. Is it just me or does this thing sway too much? It’s swaying quite a bit, isn’t it? Wow, it only takes people getting on… Let’s see. It’s not going to fall, right? It’s going to be exciting. It’s nice and sunny up here.

Look at the letters of Brașov here. Wow, the view of the city here is incredible. Wow Look at this! Wow, it’s huge! You can see the “B” From down here it looks small, it’s not like Hollywood which is massive, but it’s because the mountain is far away, it’s really high.

And to go up it took like two minutes, two and a half minutes. There’s a lookout point here. Next to the letters where you can see. Wow! You can see a lot of things! Oh my goodness, look at this! Look where we were! the square right in the middle wow!

Wow, Brașov is really big! Right here in the middle, you can see the main square where we were. The Black Church. Our AirBnB is a bit far, it’s here, in those buildings in the background. But we can take a bus and come here quickly.

And a tip is that it’s quite windy here, so it’s good to come prepared. If it was already windy down there, it was even more difficult at this mountain height. And we didn’t even know that we could climb higher, but after you reach the letters

You can take a little trail and get here, then yes, to the top of Tampa Mountain. And we found the view here much better because it is much more panoramic, so you can see, besides all of Brasov, you can still see other mountains that are over there behind.

The problem here is that it’s very windy, I even put on my hood here, I’m trying to somehow protect myself from the wind, there are even videos of Bia and me suffering there with the wind trying to film

But, wow, the view here is incredible, it reminds me a bit of Cluj, when we went to Cluj on the first day of the video we went up high and could see the whole city. same feeling, same vibe here

After all the wind, we went back to the cable car and we’re going back down to Brașov now Now it was much more crowded there, but I think because of the cold and it being a Sunday, it was much more calm. Even up there too.

Yeah, what we saw from the people going up was that it was crowded, like, you couldn’t even get close. to the fence there. Yeah, then it was pretty calm. You must have been lucky. And as we were discussing earlier, Brașov was a medieval city and in the Middle Ages.

On average, it was completely surrounded by walls and it was only possible to enter the city through a few gates that were around it, and Catherine’s gate is one of them and of the ones that still exist, it is probably the most iconic and well-known in the city

And one curious thing about Catherine’s gate that we were reading is that it has four sub-towers, two on this side and two on the other, which represented that the city of

Brașov, from the moment you entered the gates, you would have the right to judicial autonomy to make decisions about crimes and anything they judge inside, until it reaches the executions, which were carried out in the square where we started the video.

Now that you’ve entered the gates, be careful because anything will be judged in the square. Now that you’ve entered the gates, be careful because anything will be judged in the square. So behave yourself here. And now we are on one of the narrowest streets in Europe, if I’m not mistaken, one of the

Three narrowest streets. It is 1 meter and 30 centimeters wide and from what we were reading, it was created for firefighters to cross into the city in case there was a fire, apparently there were quite a few fires here. Do you think they calculated it precisely to fit one person and two buckets?

Like… I wonder if there wasn’t a hose? I don’t think so. And as you can see… It was a good demonstration, right? It was, it was good. You did well. As you can see, nowadays it’s all covered in graffiti, but it’s interesting. Quite tight. And from here you can also see the symbol…

You won’t be able to see it on the camera, but the Brașov symbol is right here. And now it’s time to eat. Thank God. Someone was hungry since up there. And now we’re going to try a traditional dish from Romania.

I don’t know what, but we’re going to some restaurant here that is more traditional. Usually when we watched the videos here about Brașov, everyone went to the same restaurant. We’re going to try to vary a bit and get to know another one. So let’s go.

And we came to a restaurant called Sergiana, and we just placed our order and they already brought an appetizer here. No, pork rinds. How long has it been since we’ve seen pork rinds? Pork rinds and bread, best restaurant.

I’ve been wanting to order this for a while, but it’s kind of hard to order a plate of pork rinds, right? Have you tried it? No. Compared to the pork rinds in Brazil? It’s perfect. There’s no way it can go wrong. Oh, the pork rinds can. No, but it’s really good.

Is it crispy? Look. Have you ever eaten some soaked pork rinds? Crispy. Just for the pork rinds, the restaurant was worth it. We also came because it had a medieval, rustic vibe. Like, you pass by on the street, you don’t think much of the restaurant because it’s a door.

And you have to go down some stairs, because it’s down there in the basement. And you pass by there and it doesn’t look like much. But inside here is amazing. And the pork rinds are excellent. Bia got stuck on the pork rinds. It must be very good too. My dish is already here.

Are you only going to eat that? Leave it to me. Eating Romanian style. Romanian style, with raw onion. It’s funny that they put raw onion in soup, with various dishes. Like, just chopped onion. It’s good! All the dishes we’re going to have now…

And our dishes arrived, I ordered Sarmale which is a very traditional dish here in Romania. It’s cabbage, rice wrapped in cabbage and there’s also meat inside, ground meat. And it also comes with polenta, which is in several dishes here. And bacon. And a pepper there.

It’s a bell pepper, and Sour Cream came too. Traditional for you to eat together. Yes! I think this is the most traditional dish here in Romania. Let’s see if it’s good! I’ve only eaten it once. There in Cluj. The cabbage, it also seems pickled, so it’s a little sour.

But the filling, it’s super, like comfort food. Because it’s a little rice with ground meat, well seasoned. And you put it in your mouth, the cabbage falls apart. Very good, wow. It warms the heart completely. And we always do this here in Romania. That we order a dish and a soup.

The soup is very good in this cold weather. And this time I ordered a sour soup from Transylvania. It is clear, what I understood is that it came with ham. And there are actually some pieces of bacon here. And apparently there are various vegetables and some little things underneath. This soup is top!

It has a slightly sour taste, not too much It’s a super smooth soup, almost like a bacon broth This one is really tasty. And just coming out of the restaurant but the total bill came out to 89 LEI

It’s still a much more affordable restaurant than other places we were eating at here in Eastern Europe so we highly recommend eating here in Europe, the food here in Brașov is really good and this restaurant, it’s just absurd!

And now it was the time when it was really crowded, a long line started forming at the restaurant. So the gang here usually has lunch around this time, which is around two o’clock in the afternoon. But it was really good! So this was our tour here in Brașov, we hope you enjoyed it.

We took quite a while to be able to explore the city, but we liked it. very. Several cool things to see here and today’s tour, although we endured a lot of cold, was very cool. And it’s not just the end of Brașov.

In the next episodes, we want to visit the cheapest ski resort in Europe. As we have been saying, Romania has been much more affordable and here in Brașov they say they have the cheapest ski resort in all of Europe

So we want to go there and check it out, even though we don’t know how to ski and it’s not winter but we want to go there and see, maybe we can learn a little bit of skiing yeeey! That’s it, guys, bye!

Maybe we chose the coldest day in Brașov to shoot this video, it’s not easy… And it was supposed to be the hottest day of the week. Oh my God, it was the only day it wasn’t going to rain. Rice wrapped… wrapped in cabbage. Enrrolhado! (Tangled!)

And you can’t talk about the Parliament without talking about its history, which is not very nice… Everything that was here was demolished at the time, to build these buildings. So inside it is all closed, very beautiful. Very practical. Very good, wow.

It’s very practical, you don’t need to buy a card, you don’t need to top up, you just go and use it.

  2. Em julho será minha vez!! Não vejo a hora!! Obrigada pelos vídeos, vcs são ótimos! Amei a dica do restaurante, ta na minha lista.

  3. The pork rinds are called jumari and restaurants focused on traditional dishes are gonna have them. In Romania, in the countryside, on December 20, a pig is sacrificed, meat for the holidays and the winter so a lot of Xmas dishes are pork based. Jumari are not necessarily an Xmas dish but they are gonna tend to be present then too. The pig sacrifice is an entire tradition and it's a full day of work.
And to add a few things in Brasov, Cetatuia de Straja, Turnul Alb, Turnul Negru, Bastionul Tesatorilor, Prima scoala Romaneasca, Biserica Sfantul Bartolomeu (oldest building that is still standing but tourists don't know about it), Pietraee lui Solomon, maybe even Noua Park, why not. And on the small mountain with the sign, if you take a short hike, there is a view point for the other side of the mountain too.
And in the county, there is a lot, too many things to list now.
