【日本一名前の長い神社】苔に包まれた神秘のパワースポット「飛鳥川上坐宇須多岐比売命神社」

The longest moss-covered shrine in Japan. It was quietly located in a charming village where the original scenery of Japan still remains. 50 minutes by car south from JR Nara Station. Asuka Village is known as “the birthplace of Japan” due to the Taika Reforms.

We would like to introduce you to the charm of this village near the southern tip of the Nara Basin. A very peaceful rural landscape. Personally, I highly recommend Asuka Village as a driving spot. The gentle slope and this scenery give you a feel of good old Japan.

In the spring, rape blossoms bloom, and in the summer, the rice terraces of Inabuchi turn green. In the fall, the red spider lilies bloom, creating a landscape that is symbolic of Asuka Village. It is dotted with many fascinating historical sites. More on that later.

Now, I would like to visit the longest shrine in Japan. Asuka I’m in Kakami Usutakihime no Mikoto Jinja. Suddenly, 200 stone steps appear. It is said that the female Emperor Kogyoku prayed for rain at this shrine. It’s very quiet and I feel a mysterious power.

This is a primitive Shinto shrine that does not have a main shrine, but has Mt. Minamibuchi in the background as its object of worship. The moss that spreads all over the place is very mysterious. Head to one of the famous historical sites. It seems to be about a 5 minute drive away.

One of the largest stone chambered tombs in Japan. It is built by piling up 30 megaliths. You can go inside and take a look. The height is 4.7m and the interior depth is 7.6m. It is unknown whose grave this is, but the most likely theory is that it belongs to Soga Umako.

It is said that Umako’s fiefdom was later removed because of his tyrannical attitude. Aside from that, cherry blossoms are very beautiful in spring. The cherry blossoms blooming at temples and shrines are beautiful, but the ones that blend in with the peaceful village scenery are also wonderful.

We recommend a trip to Asuka Village where you can enjoy the four seasons while visiting mysterious shrines and historical sites.
