Hitoyoshi Loop Bridge Ohata Town, Hitoyoshi City Description of Hitoyoshi Loop Bridge. The steep Kyushu Mountains lie between Hitoyoshi City in Kumamoto Prefecture and Ebino City in Miyazaki Prefecture in Japan, and the peak (pass) of the road that connects these regions is called Kakuto Pass.

In the past, the only way to connect prefectural borders was to cross a mountain pass, and it is said that Saigo Takamori’s army, which invaded Kumamoto Prefecture from Kagoshima Prefecture during the Seinan War in 1877, was exhausted after crossing the Kakuto Pass.

Currently, National Route 221 has been opened to traffic, with two loops, the Hitoyoshi Loop Bridge and the Ebino Loop Bridge, overcoming the difference in altitude over the mountain pass. Furthermore, the Kyushu Jukan Expressway, which passes through the new Kakuto Tunnel (approximately 6km long), has opened next to the national highway.

This time we will be introducing the Hitoyoshi Loop Bridge on the Kumamoto side of National Route 221.

The loop bridge was completed in 1977 (Showa 52), and the length of the loop section is 1190 m, the diameter is 190 m, the circumference is 600 m, and the maximum piers are 60 m.

It consists of three bridges: Kaiun Bridge, Shoun Bridge, and Tenma Bridge. It is said to be the largest loop bridge in the East. It coincides with the autumn leaves season, so please enjoy the autumn leaves spreading in the center of the Loop Bridge and the beautiful arc of the Hitoyoshi Loop Bridge.

Today, I’m visiting visiting the Hitoyoshi Loop Bridge in Ohata Town, Hitoyoshi City in the south of Kumamoto Prefecture. It is said to be the largest loop Bridge in the East. It’s really big when you see it up close. Please enjoy it together with the autumn leaves. Let’s take off!

The tallest bridge foot is said to be 60m. First, let’s move to the Hitoyoshi City side and follow the road. This is a panoramic view of Hitoyoshi Loop Bridge. The diameter is 190m. The center of the loop is a poorly maintained park.

    恥ずかしながら行ったことは無いものの、噂には聞いていました。
    東洋一のループ橋とあって、上空から観る橋の全景は、トレーラーがオモチャのように観える様は、本当に圧巻です
