10 Things to do in NIIGATA, Japan šŸ‡ÆšŸ‡µšŸ£ | Niigata Travel Guide

Niigata to Japan we ended up in this coastalĀ  city because it’s where our faery disembarkedĀ Ā  after a 16-hour Journey from Hokkaido and sinceĀ  we were already here we decided to spend a fewĀ Ā  days exploring but first things first food inĀ  this video we’ll sample saki from little vendingĀ Ā

Machines I have discovered I like sucki enjoy someĀ  beach time I can go swimming try vending machineĀ Ā  Sushi which might have been a mistake is totallyĀ  frozen we’re not going to be eating this anytimeĀ Ā  soon admire the views from the tallest buildingĀ  in the city what do I think of the views they’reĀ Ā

Amazing up here try higgy soba the local specialtyĀ  dip it in the sauce and so much more so if you’reĀ Ā  curious about what this destination has to offerĀ  join us as we share 10 things to do in NiigataĀ Ā

Japan during your [Music] visit all righty goodĀ  morning friends we are coming to you from PierĀ Ā  Bandai this is a really cool area in the portĀ  where they have a seafood market a whole bunchĀ Ā  of little eateries as well where you can enjoyĀ  fresh seafood and that is the plan for todayĀ Ā

We’re going to explore the market and also see ifĀ  we can get some fresh sashimi and then just overĀ Ā  my shoulder you can see the tallest buildingĀ  here in Niigata we’re going to be going up toĀ Ā  the Befco Bakauke observation deck uh later todayĀ  but first things first food we need something toĀ Ā

Eat in order to do all of this so we’re feelingĀ  a little bit adventurous we just went past aĀ Ā  vending machine that sells Sashimi so we’ve beenĀ  eating a lot of seafood in every city we go to weĀ Ā

Usually check out the seafood market you knowĀ  grab a little rice bowl with fresh uh SeafoodĀ Ā  on it but we just saw that you have the optionĀ  of ordering Sashimi from a vending machine andĀ Ā

We’re very curious about what that might be likeĀ  so I think we’re going to try to order at least uhĀ Ā  one tray of Sashimi from the machine and if we’reĀ  still hungry we can always go into the restaurantĀ Ā

Oh wow and we can eat it in the thing yeah how doĀ  you feel about this yeah yeah let’s do it let doĀ Ā  yeah yeah it must be obviously cool we have toĀ  decide what we get it’s got to be refrigeratedĀ Ā

It’s obviously refrigerated yeah um so these areĀ  the this is the options you have okay I wonder ifĀ Ā  it takes card yes it might oh but tap see okayĀ  so here’s how you do it you have the options ofĀ Ā

One to 10 y so shall we try say which one shouldĀ  we get three number three they all look the sameĀ Ā  it’s a first time for everything so it takesĀ  do you have any smaller bolts yeah it takesĀ Ā

1,000 [Music] right get 200 again and change andĀ  this is going to be fascinating oh here it goesĀ Ā  look at that look at that oh wow it’s yeah it’sĀ  nice and cold nice and refrigerated wow our firstĀ Ā

Uh Sushi from a vending machine guys no that’sĀ  something else I that’s taking it to a whole new level o look at that oh it’s seal packedĀ  oh it’s frozen we’re going to have to letĀ Ā  it thaw out a little bit we are but IĀ  imagine it’s like packed every day youĀ Ā

Have to imagine right we’re at a seafoodĀ  market oh my hope uh the only thing we’reĀ Ā  missing are chopsticks oh my gosh do you thinkĀ  are we went some microwave is like I conf it’sĀ Ā  totally frozen like like you can’t eatĀ  that block of rice look it’s going toĀ Ā

Take a while I don’t know how long but we’reĀ  not going to be eating this anytime [Music] soon [Music] needless to say don’t make our mistakeĀ  with the Frozen Sushi go straight intoĀ Ā  the market for the fresh stuff and ifĀ  you’re not into raw seafood they alsoĀ Ā

Have grilled fish and a whole bunch ofĀ  other ready to go meals to choose fromĀ Ā  it’s aimi looks so good those littleĀ  on where you get cucumber [Music] some no it’s long no now the real deal actual freshĀ  sushi that hasn’t been frozen yeah this is whatĀ Ā

We should have done from this what we shouldĀ  have done I’m going to put the the soy sauceĀ Ā  on top if that’s okay let’s cover it all knowĀ  that’s not what you’re really supposed to doĀ Ā

But that’s what we do I like the Wasabi yesĀ  Wasabi too to Wasabi a little bit of WasabiĀ Ā  on everything a little a little amount on eachĀ  one or if not just put it on the side and I’llĀ Ā

I’ll add it cuz that ain’t a whole lot ofĀ  Wasabi so far so good I’ll go with the tunaĀ Ā  one how’s that I think it’s tuna oh man andĀ  better than the Frozen stuff that is so goodĀ Ā  that’s such thick generous pieces of fish andĀ  it’s so tender it’s so flavourful levels aboveĀ Ā

The normal Sushi you would get just like a sayĀ  a random sushi shop in town this is definitelyĀ Ā  this is Gourmet Stu guys this is really come toĀ  the market and get it fresh is what he’s tryingĀ Ā

To exactly get get down here and get it freshĀ  it’s that good this one oh looks good I can’tĀ Ā  believe we thought vending machine Sushi wasĀ  a good idea I know it doesn’t even look thatĀ Ā

Good oh man gimmicky right is a gimmick but soĀ  this is the real deal so guys in terms of priceĀ Ā  point that was 00 Yen it was enough for the two ofĀ  us to have a snack if you wanted to have a wholeĀ Ā

Meal I would suggest getting an entire tree toĀ  yourself and my gosh that was good I’m going toĀ Ā  go out on a limb and say that was the best sushiĀ  we’ve had so far on a trip in Japan it was justĀ Ā

That amazing the quality of the fish was so freshĀ  the cuts were so thick and the flavours were justĀ Ā  outstanding I can’t fully Express just how goodĀ  this is you got to come here to try it yourselfĀ Ā

Waiting for the elevator we’re we’re going toĀ  make our way to the 31st floor for views of theĀ Ā  city 31st there’s two elevators one’s direct andĀ  one makes stops on all the floors wherever PeopleĀ Ā

Press so choose the direct elevator and we’ve gotĀ  a glass window so we can see the views as we go up [Music] wow [Music] all righty guys and here you can see whereĀ  we arrived on the ferry we took that very routeĀ Ā

Into Niigata the observation deck is locatedĀ  in tokim a landmark building of Niigata it’sĀ Ā  a little out of the way but if you want thoseĀ  panoramic city views this is the [Music] placeĀ Ā

So what do you think of the views what do I thinkĀ  of the views they’re amazing up here this is theĀ Ā  best view by far of the entire city it has myĀ  favorite price of all it’s free it’s free thereĀ Ā

Aren’t too many free Towers in this world so yesĀ  but what’s really cool about here this Tower isĀ Ā  actually very spread out in terms of like youĀ  have a lot of walking space to go around andĀ Ā  check out views from all different directions nowĀ  that’s also emblematic of the city too because theĀ Ā

City is very spread out I didn’t realize how muchĀ  it sprawls out in all directions you only have aĀ Ā  small cluster of the tall buildings which is whereĀ  we’re staying but then it gets really spread outĀ Ā  and just kind of like traditional houses there’sĀ  an area where there’s an industrial center thenĀ Ā

There’s like a fishing port area with the fairiesĀ  and then far off in the distance you have theĀ Ā  mountains so there’s quite a lot to look at andĀ  I found it fascinating to come up here because IĀ Ā

Would have had no idea of the layout of the cityĀ  otherwise for those of you wondering whateverĀ Ā  happened to the Frozen Sushi here we are we tookĀ  an L with that one guys not only does the qualityĀ Ā

Not look as good but uh yeah it’s just obviouslyĀ  not as fresh right I guess the the option someoneĀ Ā  would probably consider this option maybe ifĀ  they were arriving at the market off hours orĀ Ā

If they needed to freeze it on the way home theĀ  vehicle I can’t think of any other reason there’sĀ Ā  no good reason for us to have it like this butĀ  you’re going to try it y taste test okay that’sĀ Ā

Not bad I could probably let saw out a littleĀ  bit more but still a little Frozen it’s prettyĀ Ā  good it’s pretty good he says it’s not nearlyĀ  as good as the the fresh it’ll do oh okay get Frozen no Chopsticks or anything forĀ  the Frozen Sushi just eating it likeĀ Ā

A bear this is bad m that’s good thoughĀ  bad that I’m eating it like a bear but tasty so what lesson have you learned fromĀ  don’t buy Frozen Sushi this was the firstĀ Ā  and last time I’m ever going to do that that’sĀ  my [Music] lesson of course we couldn’t leaveĀ Ā

Niigata without trying the local specialty hegiĀ  soba this restaurant served nothing but sobaĀ Ā  dishes done different ways well well well is hereĀ  friend yes so the star of the show is what you’reĀ Ā  going to be having I’m starting off with someĀ  buckwheat noodles okay take a look at that andĀ Ā

The specialty is this comes with mushrooms andĀ  some veggies veggies and some seaweed seaweedĀ Ā  let’s try that this is a place that specializes inĀ  noodles I’m very excited for this also I love theĀ Ā  spoon your spoon looks more like a ladle want toĀ  show us that and sample the broth right out lookĀ Ā

At that so look at this go in like that oh ourĀ  Tempura arrived looking wonderful yeah that’s aĀ Ā  nice six- piece set oh the broth is just wonderfulĀ  it’s just the right combination of flavorful allĀ Ā  righty so I’m trying the local specialty hereĀ  in Niigata it’s the Suzakaya and that means itĀ Ā

Comes already arranged in bite siiz portions soĀ  you just have to just grab it grab it pick it upĀ Ā  with the Chopsticks dip it in the sauce don’tĀ  don’t get I accidentally dropped mine in the sauce but it’s really nice it’s served coldĀ  it’s a cold dish so it’s really nice in theĀ Ā

Summertime cools you down one more thing theseĀ  ones are a little bit green in color I’ve heardĀ Ā  some that sometimes they they pound the theĀ  seaweed into it um so yeah really happy to beĀ Ā  trying a a local dish here it’s delicious yesĀ  and what do you think of the tempura try someĀ Ā

That first too I already had the the shrimp oneĀ  you did pumpkin you’re eating the you’re eatingĀ Ā  all my favorites all your favorites okay I’llĀ  grab this one that’s okay go ahead and grabĀ Ā  the pumpkin what this looks like it could beĀ  fish I see a little tail it looks like a lotĀ Ā

Of food but I feel like it’s a light mealĀ  you know yeah need to keep some room roomĀ Ā  for our dessert today very good yeah some typeĀ  of white fish oh man nothing like good temperaĀ Ā  huh to go spicy let’s see this green thingĀ  that jalapeno could it be very well could

Be overall good huh wonderful so we finishedĀ  finished the meal and the little cup where IĀ Ā  was dipping my noodles they added some otherĀ  liquid I think he said it’s like soou or sobaĀ Ā  juice it’s like having more of the soup yeahĀ  which is wonderful that’s one of my the bestĀ Ā

Parts right all right well I’ve got to say thatĀ  was a wonderful spot to try soba like the peopleĀ Ā  in there were so so kind so friendly and I meanĀ  aside from it being a delicious meal uh like onceĀ Ā

My my food was done the the man came over and heĀ  poured I don’t know some kind of hot liquid someĀ Ā  kind of soup maybe some kind of miso into theĀ  dipping sauce I had been using with the noodlesĀ Ā

And we drank that he said it’s very healthy forĀ  you and then he came and he brought us some teaĀ Ā  as well so we were at the table for a little whileĀ  and we just finished saying goodbye to them andĀ Ā

Like they they followed us out of the restaurantĀ  like bowing the whole time like bowing thank youĀ Ā  thank you this was so nice awesome service niceĀ  people great little spot and um yeah it’s notĀ Ā  far from the Ponshukan train station so greatĀ  location too um oh man that was great so soĀ Ā

Satisfied so full everything is tasty yeah did IĀ  see the price I meant to tell you the price that’sĀ Ā  why I picked up the camera it was $920 Yen yeahĀ  so there you go great price for two people I’d

Say shops to one side open space toĀ  the other then we we walked over toĀ Ā  Bandai City a shopping mall whereĀ  we had the most decadent dessertsĀ Ā  of the whole trip just wait until youĀ  see the Mochi we had with fresh [Music]

Fruit all righty so we are at Bandai City this isĀ  kind of like a like a shopping center I would sayĀ Ā  it’s like a mall but we’re on the second floorĀ  and we’re Outdoors there’s like a really niceĀ Ā

Outdoor space uh no skateboarding I was going toĀ  say you can come skateboarding no skateboardingĀ Ā  maybe it’s just a place for kids to play and liveĀ  music every once in a while um so we just we cameĀ Ā

Here for dessert so we found a place called TheĀ  matcha Cafe and we got some treats as well as thisĀ Ā  beverage I I I don’t know what I’m having likeĀ  I see what could be coffee what could be caramelĀ Ā

There’s milk there’s matcha there’s a whole lotĀ  M oh that’s wonderful so that’s a creamy milkyĀ Ā  matcha tea with a sweet syrup at the bottom it isĀ  not coffee M so good is it and then we got someĀ Ā

Little some little treats uh which I’m going toĀ  unveil and then got sidetracked and found littleĀ Ā  pancakes I found additional treats additional TreĀ  not sidetracked additional treat additional treatsĀ Ā  that were not on the part of a plan filled withĀ  red bean paste and pumpkin I think these mightĀ Ā

Be called the teaki and these are the JapaneseĀ  dessert fish kind of like almost battered wafflesĀ Ā  shaped like fish and the typical classic one hasĀ  the red bean paste and this is one I’ve never hadĀ Ā  before with pumpkin different flavors seasonalĀ  I’m going to bite the head off poor little

Fishy oh yeah that is really good thoseĀ  are thicker than ones that I’ve hadĀ Ā  before a lot more batter okay and a lotĀ  more filling too has a very nice thickĀ Ā  amount so I can’t wait to try the pumpkinĀ  just something special about pumpkin isn’tĀ Ā

There pumpkin spice and all things niceĀ  what’s that saying again that’s exactlyĀ Ā  it and that’s how I feel about thisĀ  guy pumpkin spice and everything nice inside well that’s good give me two boxes we gotĀ Ā  two boxes what is this could you couldĀ  you open this this is more than I was

Expecting whoa fancy those like Gourmet Okay so we’ve gotĀ  four little little desserts here four littleĀ Ā  fancy Mochi this looks like it’s coconutĀ  shredded coconut what will the filling beĀ Ā  friends coconut cream is it really thatĀ  is wonderful I can’t wait to try that theĀ Ā

Place looks so Gourmet like so fancy this isĀ  fancy and I think people buy this to to giftĀ Ā  like these gift sets gift boxes they don’tĀ  go to the outdoor seating area and wolf itĀ Ā  down themselves what you’re trying to tell meĀ  exactly this one has like a little red dot on

Top that is strawberries and cream look at thatĀ  oh my that has a real strawberry in there theĀ Ā  real deal the real deal such tasty littleĀ  treats in Japan am I trying all of them YepĀ Ā  this looks like black sesame this I know you’reĀ  going to like that have something white insideĀ Ā

This one’s a bit more Frozen okay okay we’llĀ  let it to wonder if it’s meant to be ice creamĀ Ā  M and last but not least and this looks likeĀ  a red bean paste ball covered in pistachio MĀ Ā

That has ice cream inside M oh wow look at thatĀ  does but totally wrong W which was your favoriteĀ Ā  coconut coconut for the win I can’t wait to tryĀ  the coconut well guys that dessert was the giftĀ Ā

That kept on giving every time we bit into theĀ  Mochi it’s like we would discover another lovelyĀ Ā  little treasure in there in the end we found outĀ  there was a lot of fruit fresh fruit in there soĀ Ā  the coconut one that I thought had Peach atĀ  one point actually had melon amazing thereĀ Ā

Was the one with the strawberry another one hadĀ  pineapple and then there was a fourth fruit anyĀ Ā  any idea what that was I I couldn’t figure thatĀ  one out it it was a bit of a Myster yeah it kindĀ Ā

Of had a durian consistency and I think thereĀ  was also some like ice cream in there it wasĀ Ā  just so good like fresh Mochi jack fruit jackĀ  fruit yeah Stan or jack fruit yeah so the totalĀ Ā

For for the Mochi and the drink was 2,000 YenĀ  you might say a little bit pricey for dessertĀ Ā  but we like our desserts and that was good thatĀ  was good we’re going to remember this memorableĀ Ā

You know we could we could have got somethingĀ  cheaper but and like 3 or 4 years later wouldĀ Ā  even remembered never forget this stuff you’reĀ  going to remember that Mochi with fresh fruitĀ Ā  yeah that was so good that was so good and theĀ  pancakes levels oh yeah those were delicious tooĀ Ā

You needed those pancakes hey oh no my gosh I needĀ  to need to do a big walk tonight guys big walk yeah we are currently navigating the chaosĀ  of Niigata station in search of sake locallyĀ Ā  known as nihonshu uh we’re looking for aĀ  place called hukan where they have sakeĀ Ā

Vending machines and all sorts of sake relatedĀ  desserts and things we’re standing in front ofĀ Ā  the Starbucks right now because Sam collectsĀ  mugs uh Starbucks mugs from all over the worldĀ Ā  so while he does that I’m checking in to letĀ  you know we’re going to be trying some sakeĀ Ā

Okay I think we’re finally headed in the rightĀ  direction ction there are like three differentĀ Ā  shops where you can buy sake products andĀ  souvenirs and it’s all a bit confusing butĀ Ā  we’re looking for the section with the vendingĀ  machines we’re still on the quest guys we’reĀ Ā

Going to find on Quest I feel like thatĀ  man signifies their he looks like the sakeĀ Ā  man sake man there’s a guy hello Sak man doĀ  you have saki for us to taste yes yes you do [Music] so we may need toĀ  break though yeah let’s do

[Music] that okay we found the place this isĀ  fascinating there’s hundreds to try and we don’tĀ Ā  know which ones to get so we’re just going toĀ  randomly put them in we got special coins specialĀ Ā  tokens which we’ve purchased and that allows usĀ  to get five different tastings so I’ve decided toĀ Ā

Go with one from Musa hashino Brewery brw in jituĀ  and I I chose it because of the skiing so strictlyĀ Ā  judging a book by its cover here I think that’sĀ  that’s going to be our approach so let’s pop itĀ Ā

In and see what happens and it goes and press theĀ  yellow button I imagine oh it’s filling up oh goĀ Ā  gadget go go g go g go look at that oh that’sĀ  quite a bit yeah oh yeah we’re going to get aĀ Ā

Little tipsy here at the train station it’s aĀ  great place to to have this too right in theĀ Ā  train station so you can uh you know you’ve had aĀ  long train ride need to relax come here you needĀ Ā

To you have a long train ride ahead of you youĀ  come here and relax first all right well let’sĀ Ā  Brak got bottom enough rambling about the trainĀ  o this is definitely what I remember sake tastingĀ Ā

Like it’s got a nice smooth taste goes down well IĀ  like this one my turn I have chosen one number 57Ā Ā  it’s called it’s the key I’m choosing it for itsĀ  Aroma quite Tha richness not dry at all only 12%Ā Ā

Too 12 not as strong in there oh this one requiresĀ  two coins oh look look some of the drinks requireĀ Ā  too fancy fancy pits there we go that’s a specialĀ  one huh it’s got to be special for two coins yeahĀ Ā

How’s it smell nice Aroma that’s like what weĀ  tried in otaru the other day very sweet let meĀ Ā  try like honey that one is very sweet what is itĀ  is special okay we just poured this one the mainĀ Ā

Reason I tried this one is the the very last oneĀ  it’s the 111th variety you can have and it’s aĀ Ā  one coiner ooh it’s a very sweet taste look thisĀ  one quite a bit last but not least we’ll call itĀ Ā

How many coins down I think we’re four coins downĀ  six more to go I have discovered I like Su go youĀ Ā  need to go for the sweet ones that’s suck is goodĀ  my friends I thought this was the type of alcoholĀ Ā

That I just wasn’t into so we’ll hit up we’ll hitĀ  up sweet ones so that you can enjoy them all theĀ Ā  the dry ones I don’t think you’d like that muchĀ  no no okay next we are going with EMA this isĀ Ā

Actually very highly recommended cuz I’ve beenĀ  reading about sucking you’re meant to pair itĀ Ā  with oysters oysters it says so right here andĀ  it’s a one coiner that’s a one coiner we getĀ Ā  to save our money ready buttona chaaaa two okayĀ  this one is not so much my cup of [Music] sakeĀ Ā

You’re right it’s definitely not as sweet yeahĀ  but it’s light how it light it’s light it’s mildĀ Ā  for me it’s like give me the sugar give herĀ  the sweetness give her the sugar she’s happyĀ Ā  you can finish I’ll finish it take anotherĀ  one I’m going to try this one next becauseĀ Ā

It’s got a little picture of a grape and it’sĀ  a one coiner this one’s 10 real high press the [Music] button [Music] okay that’s a kind ofĀ  sweet sweeter one you like it could be evenĀ Ā

Sweeter could be sweeter we can try to findĀ  even sweet on we’re going with 105 cuz it hasĀ Ā  a picture of a pineapple and we feel likeĀ  it’s a good sign s noi maybe it’s tropical

Oh this one is a little sweeter sweeter littleĀ  bit but not nearly as sweet as the ones you likeĀ Ā  you should you should spend your last one on theĀ  one you like on the one I’ve already tried yesĀ Ā

Try it okay so I spent my last coin on the one IĀ  had already had it’s number 111 it’s sweet likeĀ Ā  honey like syrup and apparently that’s what IĀ  look for an alcohol well friends we are exitingĀ Ā

Happy Little Smiles on our faces let’s go joinĀ  Mr sck Man man that was actually a really funĀ Ā  activity yeah you should do that with moreĀ  things like with beer with wine I would thatĀ Ā  would be such a great business idea to haveĀ  little little coins and little pores littleĀ Ā

Sips get to try all these different flavors andĀ  if you like something you end up buying it rightĀ Ā  so great for business too I have to mentionĀ  as well I don’t think very many people knowĀ Ā  about this attraction because in The TastingĀ  Room like the back room over there there thereĀ Ā

Are hardly any people maybe six seven peopleĀ  were there at the same time as us and I meanĀ Ā  it’s just so much fun there’s a lot more peopleĀ  buying souvenirs and Gifts than than tastingĀ Ā  but we like the tasting the tasting is theĀ  best part go taste so go taste some suckingĀ Ā

Here at Niigata station yep will my feet fitĀ  or is this going to be [Music] ridiculous oh no we visited a few different historic housesĀ  in Niigata but as it turns out no cameras wereĀ Ā

Allowed in most of them so this is the only one weĀ  can share with you Saito Villa is perhaps betterĀ Ā  known than this spot we visited but if you wantĀ  to walk through a traditional Japanese home takeĀ Ā

Some photos and explore the gardens you can do soĀ  right here at the northern culture Museum Niigata [Music] [Applause] complex [Music] we hadĀ  some really nice weather in Niigata andĀ Ā  we were so close to the beach so we had toĀ  check it out we went to Niigata West CoastĀ Ā  Jetty number five because it was the closestĀ  point to us but you’ve got miles of beachesĀ Ā

And plenty of Jetties to choose from this oneĀ  seemed particularly popular with the [Music] fishermen so enjoying a little bit of beach timeĀ  here out in Niigata we were just so close to theĀ Ā  coast a few blocks that we were like youĀ  know what let’s walk on over I don’t knowĀ Ā

If you guys have the same experience as me butĀ  sometimes you do something like this and it’sĀ Ā  completely different from your expectations it’sĀ  just a a nice quiet beach with some fishermenĀ Ā  and beautiful Coastal views we saw blaines comingĀ  in we saw a couple fairies out at sea and a niceĀ Ā

Beautiful day like this couldn’t have a betterĀ  VI view from about here nice to get those SeaĀ Ā  Breeze too lots of people out fishing enjoyingĀ  a beautiful quiet Sunday so this seems to beĀ Ā  the place to hang out and I mean we couldn’tĀ  have asked for better weather beautiful blueĀ Ā

Skies and a light Breeze not too hot eitherĀ  got to like it find out how cold this is howĀ Ā  cold is it I insist we either dip our handsĀ  or toes I’m guessing very I’m guessing veryĀ Ā

All right this is the Sea of Japan people ohĀ  you’re going in with s it’s not bad way warmerĀ Ā  than I thought oh way warmer than I thought tryĀ  going to dip in your hands look get your shoesĀ Ā

Soaking wet nice to wash them off washing themĀ  off literally not cold literally not cold he says all righty Sea of Japan W oh that’s nice I know I told you notĀ  cold it all [Music] wow this is great I could goĀ Ā

Swimming I know but no no one else is swimmingĀ  which makes me question whether this water isĀ Ā  okay yeah there’s literally no oh your shoesĀ  are going out to sea oh wow imagine if that happen [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

[Music] all righty guys so it’s time for anotherĀ  lunch here in Niigata we were wandering aroundĀ Ā  Furumachidori for a very very long time IĀ  did not realize this is a nighttime kindĀ Ā  of place ooh there comes the Lassie yes so theĀ  Lassie is here but basically I didn’t realizeĀ Ā

This is like a nighttime entertainment kindĀ  of District so nothing is open for lunch soĀ Ā  the first restaurant that we stumbled upon thatĀ  we thought o looks really good it’s called starĀ Ā  and it’s Indian Nepali food so we have orderedĀ  some sets with curry non bread is coming mangoĀ Ā

Lassi is already on the table cheers oh it’sĀ  been a while since I’ve had this brings backĀ Ā  memories all this to say we’re really excited forĀ  Indian Nepali food this is going to be good andĀ Ā  if you’re going to explore Furumachidori come atĀ  night there is nothing to do in the daytime alsoĀ Ā

It’s mostly bars it’s a Sunday too we shouldĀ  mention it’s a Sunday so planned it completelyĀ Ā  wrong guys and I have a giant piece of Naan it’sĀ  piping hot can’t wait to try that I’ll try not toĀ Ā

Bre I’ll try not to screw up the chicken there soĀ  I got the chicken curry that’s good we went forĀ Ā  the hot spice too there different levels did weĀ  overdo it you know what this is a spicy a spicyĀ Ā

Trip and then over here I got the set that had aĀ  chicken Tika I’m going to just try a bite of thatĀ Ā  M very Smokey on the outside nice tender pieceĀ  of chicken this is going to be delicious guysĀ Ā

And it just goes to show that I know we’ve been inĀ  Japan for several weeks we’ve almost entirely ateĀ Ā  exclusively Japanese food we’re we’re cravingĀ  Indian food so how’s yours over there oh mineĀ Ā  is so good I feel like a fire breathing dragonĀ  right now so I got the the chicken SOG chickenĀ Ā

Spinach chicken and I love how big that piece ofĀ  Nan is all I know we both have such big piecesĀ Ā  of n love it well we just had a Feast for lunchĀ  let’s stop here while we tell you the price 2310Ā Ā

Yen for that lovely meal a lot of food great greatĀ  price that also included the lasses too so whatĀ Ā  a deal very good price excellent food spicy RichĀ  curries gigantic slices of naan what’s not to likeĀ Ā

And guys we’ve been like I said earlier we’ve beenĀ  having so much Japanese food we love Japanese foodĀ Ā  nice to mix it up every once in a while it justĀ  shows you can get good international cuisine in Niigata we are currently visiting hakusan ParkĀ  which is home to the hakusan shrine and thereĀ Ā

Is a nice little winding path through this parkĀ  it’s going to take us past the Lotus ponds whichĀ Ā  we have just behind here they also have plum treesĀ  that bloom in the springtime a little Pine ForestĀ Ā

So another lovely green Escape here inNiigata butĀ  first up we’re going to head over to the [Music] shrine [Music] feel so she sitting [Music] out It’s a big menu Curry Coco Curry House CocoĀ  Curry we ate here 5 years ago in Osaka oneĀ Ā  of our first memories of Japan so we wereĀ  wandering around looking for a place toĀ Ā  have lunch today and we saw this like we got toĀ  come back they have such an extensive menu ofĀ Ā

Different curry options you can get everythingĀ  shrimp to pork with cheese some different kindĀ Ā  of varieties look at this one chicken curryĀ  soup with shrimp the only hard part will beĀ Ā  narrowing it down what’s interesting aboutĀ  this place as well is that you can selectĀ Ā

Your level of spice how spicy do you want to goĀ  based on a scale of zero to 20 20 looks insaneĀ Ā  it costs more as you go up the the ladderĀ  you pay you pay for the burn you paid forĀ Ā

The Vern massamann Curry goodness right thereĀ  guys so inspired by Tai Massaman Curry I sayĀ Ā  inspired because if you went to Thailand youĀ  would not get this I got it with a scrambled egg a spice level four oh my spice level fourĀ  is quite spicy is it oh wow man I was thinkingĀ Ā

Of going for like six what is 20 like a is forĀ  T he like paralyzes your tongue and your stomachĀ Ā  and now I’m going to try a little bit with uĀ  Japanese scrambled egg they just managed toĀ Ā

Make it so like fluffy yeah how what is the traĀ  so good good and spicy huh you like it I do okayĀ Ā  friends I went for a little bit more of the moreĀ  classic thing you would order here at the coconutĀ Ā

Curry I’m going for the pork cutlet which is theĀ  tonkatsu but with a Twist with the cheese checkĀ Ā  this out you can see the cheese right here lookĀ  at all that cheesy goodness yes okay dunk it inĀ Ā

There wow there’s a lot of of the curry and I’mĀ  going for a level four just like you level fourĀ Ā  I’m curious if yours is going to be as spicy asĀ  mine or if the masaman made it spicier for a fourĀ Ā

Oh that’s spicy it’s spicy delay on at first I’mĀ  like it’s not that bad oh yeah spicy it’s spicy IĀ Ā  would maybe try a two or a three next time mhmĀ  well this is going to be okay but I mean don’tĀ Ā

Try the 20 oh no that might that might that mightĀ  ruin your trip that’s probably too much you mightĀ Ā  end up in the hospital with a 20 all righty guysĀ  well definitely re-evaluating my spice choicesĀ Ā

After that meal that really kicked my butt yeahĀ  we maxed out didn’t we we maxed out but a goodĀ Ā  great great Tas in curry though smells like fishĀ  at the moment going past some fishy places uh butĀ Ā

Price point that was 2300 Yen so less than $20Ā  and um yeah it was a good meal I think it’s aĀ Ā  reliable meal because this is a chain restaurantĀ  you can expect to get the same level of food andĀ Ā

Level of spice wherever you go in Japan yeahĀ  that’s true the portions are big so it’s oneĀ Ā  of those meals that you want to arrive with a bigĀ  appetite they give you a lot of rice along withĀ Ā

The whatever dish you have cop amounts of CurryĀ  the fact that I added cheese to mine that madeĀ Ā  it quite heavy and Rich but yeah definitely goodĀ  that’s going to tide me over the rest of the dayĀ Ā

And just like that our time in Niigata has come toĀ  an end so time for some closing thoughts on thisĀ Ā  destination good point it actually flew by didn’tĀ  it yeah feels like we just arrived from the ferryĀ Ā

Well I wouldn’t say hours ago but not 3 daysĀ  ago so time went fast so that’s a sign of of aĀ Ā  good thing we had plenty to do here we found thatĀ  compared to some other cities that the attractionsĀ Ā

Were quite spread out we had to take the bus toĀ  several different areas so yeah there was enoughĀ Ā  to do for 2 or 3 days here you could come forĀ  a weekend or a long weekend and have plenty toĀ Ā

Do see and eat and so um yeah this wasn’t like aĀ  major plan stop on our trip I’m glad we came hereĀ Ā  and uh considering we took a really epic ferryĀ  ride to get here it was worth uh checking outĀ Ā

For a few days and if you’re in if you’re in theĀ  area there’ll be plenty for you to do too so hopeĀ Ā  you guys enjoyed this video if you did give it aĀ  thumbs up a like leave us a comment subscribe andĀ Ā

Stay tuned because we’re heading to the JapaneseĀ  Alps it’s going to get a lot better oh yeah oh [Music] yeah [Music] what

Niigata, Japan! We ended up in this coastal city because it’s where our ferry disembarked after a 16-hour journey from Hokkaido. And since we were already here, we decided to spend a few days exploring!

In this video, we’ll sample sake from little vending machines, enjoy some beach time, try vending machine sushi (which might’ve been a mistake!), admire the city views from the tallest building in the city, try hegi soba (the local specialty), and so much more.

  10. Hey guys, Hope this message finds you well. Harriet and I visited Niigata about 8 years ago. Love it for its climate and temperature. And certainly, it's fresh sashimi . We were warned by our tour guide at the time to stay away from sashimi in vending machines. The best was in the fish markets. Always, fresh. Your tour of Niigata hit all the right notes. Thank you for sharing.
We want to wish you guys and your family a Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year 2024. We are along for this wonderful ride. HugsšŸ«‚ and KissesšŸ’‹ from Harriet, Jim and Yuki

  11. To eat dipping soba need to gently press the noodle with your lips and give it a good strong slurp to aerate it … like how some wine enthusiasts do when tasting wine.. really brings out the flavour

    Happy new year guys !

  12. Well come to Niigata ā¤so happy to see your new video about Niigata 😊 I have been expecting to see how Niigata is like in your videos 😊by the way I was living in Nagaoka city , a second lager city in Niigata , a place you might not know .

  13. Perhaps I would have already seen it if I scrolled down farther but #111 is Umeshu (梅酒) plum wine which tends to be sweet.

  14. I just got back from our 1st Japan trip with my family. Already miss it. Your new series on Japan is tempting me for our next visit. I would love to visit other areas Japan has to offer. We hit Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hakone. We barely scratched the surface. Thanks for your Peru vids as well, haven't been back to my birth country in over 20 years. I definitely need to go back. Have a happy and adventurous New Year!

  15. I am a Japanese citizen living in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Mt. Yahiko has the best view and there is a place where you can see the Sea of Japan. There is a hot spring town nearby.

  16. So you were going to the Japanese Alps after? "Fun fact" if famous Kamikochi was part of the plan : the Azusa river from there ends up joining with a bunch of other rivers to make up the Shinano river, Japan's longest, the river whose mouth you were looking at from the Befco Bakauke Observation Deck in Niigata (šŸ™„…)
That sushi looked absolutely epic. Thanks guys, and have a brilliant 2024

  17. Next time, please visit the Bus Station curry. Its one of the best in whole japan, and the best part is the price, just „390 when we visited 5/2023. Thank you for sharing your experience in the land of rice and sake.
