2023 歐洲聖誕市集之旅 (PART 1) | 11日萊茵河維京河船 | River Rhine Christmas Market | Viking River Cruise

To soak in the atmosphere This trip we’re taking a river cruise 11 days and 10 nights along the Rhine River Visiting four countries Setting off from Switzerland passing through France, Germany and ending the journey in Amsterdam During the entire trip, we’ll visit over 10 Christmas markets Surrounded by Christmas lights

Everywhere we go is a photo spot On the first day after landing The river cruise company arranged a tour bus To transfer guests to the boat After freshening up quickly, make the most of the time to go sightseeing and shopping in Basel The port where the river cruise dock

Is very close to the city center About a 15-minute drive away Very convenient This is actually one of the advantages of river cruise Because they can dock closer to the city center Meaning closer to the attractions The distance is not that far The one that everyone is most familiar

With must be Art Basel An art fair that takes place in Hong Kong every year So coming to this city, one can feel the cultural and artistic atmosphere nd there are also many famous art museums locally But this time, my visit is short And I’m mainly here to experience the Christmas vibe

So the first thing to do, of course is to explore the Christmas markets It’s so beautiful here with all the christmas decorations Entering the christmas season squares across Europe are adorned with festive markets Basically, Christmas markets in Europe start around 10/11 AM As you walk along, you can smell the delicious food

So I expect this trip I am ready to gain at least 10 pounds in this trip I personally love traveling to Europe because it’s full of historical sites and cultural stories Just like the “Lion Monument” in Lucerne this statue commemorates the Swiss Guards who were martyred in 1792 during the French Revolution

It symbolizes the spirit of loyalty and bravery Another famous landmark is the Chapel Bridge It was built in the 14th century When you walk on this covered wooden bridge apart from admiring the surrounding views remember to look up at some of the paintings They depict some Catholic propaganda scenes

And some daily life scenes from the Confederation period You’ll notice some triangular frames without paintings because there was a fire in 1993 Destroyed some parts of the bridge and the paintings River cruise include tour groups every day Today I will be leaving from Basel to Jungfrau

I haven’t seen snow for a long time Actually, visiting the Jungfrau in different seasons Each has its own characteristics This time it’s Christmas winter So it’s filled with the snowy mountain scenery Seeing it in reality is very spectacular The river cruise company arranged for us to have lunch on the mountain

And there were drinks I also want to recommend Swiss beverages But most of them are sold domestically So it’s not very easy in Hong Kong or Asia To find beverages produced in Switzerland The river cruise docks at Basel for three days And at night we finally set sail for France

In the next two days, we will visit Colmar and Strasbourg Both of these places have experienced changes in rule between Germany and France So you will find that the local house designs And even the culture is a mix of both traditions Especially the food in Strasbourg

Their favorite food is German sausage and French pastries They themselves say Strasbourg is the place with the highest cholesterol in Europe Europe has many claims about which country the origin of the Christmas market There are many theories Just like this time coming to France They say Strasbourg is the real progenitor

These things are really hard to verify But it’s undeniable that the Christmas markets here are really beautiful You can enjoy the Christmas atmosphere under such magnificent Gothic architecture There’s also a 30-meter high Christmas tree Every corner is a photo spot When November comes

The houses around will be full of decorations Because the locals put a lot of thought into decorating they spend two weeks to buy decorations and to design And even compete with neighbors On the sixth day, we finally headed towards Germany The first stop is Speyer 這裡的天氣真的好冷 The weather here is really cold

The temperature is about zero to three degrees Some places are even minus five degrees really freezing madly But it doesn’t affect our mood to go out and find Christmas markets at all And I bought a cup of hot white wine to try For some reason, the taste of alcohol is very strong

So I suggest everyone to go for hot red wine instead Although my face is swollen today But I definitely have to take the opportunity to go up on the deck in the morning To appreciate the different scenery of the Rhine River We will pass by some small towns, castles, and vineyards

With different world cultural heritages There are many spots that are very worth taking pictures The river cruise will sail along the inland river there are many landscapes to appreciate on both banks The Rhine River is full of poignant and tragic stories There is a very famous story called Lorelei

She was a very beautiful girl At that time, she met a very wealthy young master in the end, she was heartbrokenly abandoned Eventually, she couldn’t overcome her heartache And jumped off from this cliff The locals, in order to commemorate her built a statue And then the most mysterious thing happened

The villagers started hearing some very poignant singing The locals believed it was Lorelei seeking revenge So she would sing songs to lure the sailors passing Hoping to entice men to jump into the river to find her Of course, these are all legends

But the place where this statue is located is indeed the narrowest and most dangerous part of the Rhine River many boats have capsized at this location in the past And sailors would go missing So people believe that the soul of Lorelei truly exists After enjoying this scenery

We will arrive at Koblenz, another small town in Germany To visit the Christmas market Many European cities were severely damaged during the world wars Just like Cologne that we visited this time After many years of reconstruction This place once again become a bustling industrial city Still retaining many historical relics

Including a Gothic church that took 60 years to build And when you come here, you definitely should not miss Trying German cuisine The restaurant we chose this time is great It has been in business since the 13th century a century-old shop that has survived two world wars

And their pork knuckles are really delicious and crispy And the taste of German beer is very rich For cost-effective skincare, you must visit DM It has its own brand (Balea) For just a dozen or so Hong Kong dollars you can get a dozen capsules of serum

I have used it myself and it is very moisturizing The Christmas tree is very big and beautiful The advantage of taking a riverboat is that it sails at night That means it stays at the port until 11 PM So in the evening, I have the opportunity to go out

To the city center again and visit the Christmas market To feel the different atmosphere at night This stop to the Netherlands also signifies the end of this travel series On the ninth day we will go to Kinderdijk A very famous windmill village It is even listed as a World Cultural Heritage site

I have been to another windmill village in the Netherlands It’s located in the north called Zaanse Schans There are more shops and entertainment venues there But conversely, the Kinderdijk is not so commercialized And is even more peaceful with fewer crowds So both places have their own unique features

When going to the city center of the Netherlands The river cruise company arranged a small boat for us To let us appreciate the scenery between the canals Now on the canals of Amsterdam Today we will take a half-hour boat ride in the morning all the way along the river in amsterdam

To look at the scenery and the houses In the afternoon, there is some time for us to go shopping But I am not really into shopping So I chose to attend an exhibition Which showcased local luxury products Including yachts, luxury cars and fine wine

Of course, I don’t have the means to go shopping for these But going in to look and appreciate them Also makes me feel like my cultural level has been elevated (haha) The eleven-day itinerary is now over This is actually my third time taking a river cruise And I really like taking river cruises

Because every day there are many itineraries arranged it’s also because I’ve been looking forward to it I wanted to see the Christmas markets This trip really resulted in many beautiful photos there is a big difference between river and ocean cruises Although both travel on water
