Japan’s Luxurious Private Compartment Train | Saphir Odoriko ๐Ÿš

Hello. I’m currently at Izukyu Shimoda Station in Shizuoka Prefecture. This town is famous for its sea and hot springs. I’m about to board a premium private compartment on a train called the Saphir Odoriko, heading to Tokyo.

The private cabin I reserved for today is quite popular, so I had to try multiple times to finally secure a reservation. So I’m super excited! Huh? The train is delayed! But it’s only about a 10-minute delay, so that’s good. The gate has opened.

If I couldn’t catch this train today, I would have been devastated. This is today’s route. Along the way, we can enjoy the view of the ocean. It’s a 2.5 hours and 167 km (104miles) journey. Saphir Odoriko. This train requires reservations for all seats. I’ll be riding in car number 3.

I wonder if it’s okay to board now? Oops, they’re still cleaning. Thank you for cleaning. Open Sesame Wowza It’s so spacious and gorgeous. This private compartment can accommodate up to six people. The departure time is 14:33. Since I’m alone, I can stretch out and relax.

The windows are large, so you can fully enjoy the view. The sofa is made of leather and is quite sturdy. It’s comfortable to sit on. I could even lie down, but wow, it’s bright! By closing the blinds, it becomes a completely private compartment. I’ll leave these windows open.

The interior is designed with a sea motif. JR-East free Wi-Fi is available. A button we never want to press What does purple light mean? A very stylish light. I’d love to have it as a souvenir. The desk lamp also has a stylish design. Outlet & USB Oh, here is connects to the outside.

It’s a doggy door. There are six hooks that look like they’re made of brass. Is that an air vent, a speaker, or a doggy door? Just arrived at Kawazu Station. Beyond this station, we can immediately see magnificent scenery, so I’m getting really excited!

As you can see, it’s spacious enough to enjoy a party with about six people. Oh, I can see the coastline now. The tracks are right along the coastline, so you can enjoy a view as if you’re right on the beach. Just arrived at Izu-Atagawa Station. There are hot springs here.

It would be amazing to soak in a hot spring while enjoying this ocean view. It’s also well-known that monkeys in Japan take baths in hot springs. This train runs back and forth between Tokyo and Izukyu-Shimoda, so it’s definitely worth taking for the scenery alone. What an incredible view

It’s like all my worries have been blown away. The train is going at a speed of about 85 km/h (53 mile/h). Not so fast. Let’s go take a look at the other cars on the train. In this car number 3, my 6-person private cabin is next to a 4-person private cabin.

This is the last car, number 1. This is what’s called a Premium Green Seat, and it’s the most expensive option for open seating. It looks like it would be fun to view the scenery from the very back as well. This is the Green Seat.

This is the cheapest option, but it still looks comfortable. And this train also has a kitchen car. The chef is offering authentic cuisine. You can also place large luggage here. The toilet is very spacious. For some reason, you can lock it twice. A mirror in a place where you wouldn’t necessarily want one.

A baby bed. A high-tech toilet. I’ve returned to my room. The view makes me feel like I’ve come on a vacation to Hawaii. What is that ship? I wonder if it’s a battleship from the Maritime Self-Defense Force. Thank you for your service. I’m getting hungry.

If you hang this card on the outside of the door, the staff will come to take your meal order. Only in the private cabins can you have the special privilege of dining in the room.

For those who don’t have a private cabin, dining is possible in the kitchen car, but a reservation is required. I’ll wait for the food to arrive. It’s nice to be able to enjoy a meal in a private cabin while taking in the scenery. The food has arrived.

It’s freshly made and piping hot, so let’s dig in right away. Open Sesame Wow, it smells amazing! Let’s eat while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Potato gnocchi with tomato sauce. This is my first time eating gnocchi. What is this? It’s delicious! It’s definitely worth taking this train to enjoy this scenery and this food.

If possible, come with multiple people. The meal comes with a piece of bread, and this bread is also very delicious. The sauce pairs excellently with it. Thanks for the meal. We’ve arrived in Atami, which is famous for its hot spring district.

Now, let’s introduce how to make reservations for this ultra-popular private cabin seat. Reservations for this private cabin are not accepted online. You must make the reservation in person at JR’s “Midori no Madoguchi” ticket counters.

These reservations are available starting at 10 AM one month before the travel date, but they sell out within moments. Honestly, it can be quite challenging for people living abroad to secure these reservations. Next, I’ll place an order for dessert. Honey milk gelato. Orange soda.

It’s a cider made using the Daidai variety of oranges from Atami. It’s refreshing and easy to drink. It says that they use deep-sea water from the Izu region. Let’s go ahead and have the gelato. It has a subtly sweet honey flavor.

In Japan, desserts that are not overly sweet are often considered a luxury. Thanks for the dessert. I’ll enjoy the natural scenery for a while. We’ll be arriving in Yokohama soon. This train journey will be coming to an end soon.

We’re currently traveling at 105 km/h, and it seems like the speed has picked up a bit. The next station is Tokyo Station, the final stop. Time flies when we’re eating and enjoying the scenery. The scenery has changed from what it was a moment ago, and now there are buildings lining the area.

Oh, that train over there is the Sunrise Express, a sleeper train! I’d love to ride the Sunrise Express again sometime. The private cabin seat was fantastic. It can be a bit pricey for one person, but it’s a good deal when you ride with a group of six. Ah, we’ve arrived in Tokyo.

The abundance and height of the buildings in Tokyo always leave me in awe. I’ve truly enjoyed this elegant moment. I’m thoroughly satisfied. Thank you for the stuff. Thank you for the conductor. Thank you for the chef. And … Thank you for the Saphir. Thanks for Watching.
