Did you know that most of the Japanese fans are made in Marugame City? It’s true! This city produces about 90% of the fans in Japan, and its fans are recognized as national traditional crafts since the 1990s. How amazing is that? Let me show you how they make these beautiful fans.
What makes the Marugame uchiwa fan special is that it is crafted from a single bamboo stick. The artisans have to select the right bamboo, split it into thin strips, and glue them to a paper surface. It takes 47 steps to make one fan, and each step requires skill and precision.
