青と白の美しい町「シディ・ブ・サイド」- チュニジアひとり旅vlog
Hello, I’m Chihiro. In this video, we will introduce Sidi Bou Said in Tunisia. Tunisia is a country in North Africa. Sidi Bou Said is located 40 minutes by car from the capital, Tunis. You can also take a train from Tunis to Sidi Bou Said, but I
Wanted to save time so I used the ride-hailing app Bolt. It cost 20.5DH to go and 27.5DH to return. Sidi Bou Said is located on a hill on a promontory facing the southern Mediterranean Sea. It is a beautiful town unified by white and blue buildings. This blue is called Tunisian blue.
Tunisia is close to Europe and has been influenced by many different cultures, so its buildings are a fusion of Arab and Andalusian architectural styles. There are many souvenir shops in Sidi Bou Said. There are many Tunisian souvenirs lined up both inside and outside. The area around the souvenir shop is quite crowded.
There was also food that you could eat while walking. Many of the souvenirs are blue and white. The stairs are lined with paintings and tagine pots. The colorful small plates are cute! There were also olive tableware and mosaics. A classic Tunisian carpet stands out against the white walls.
Since the 17th century, Sidi Bou Said has become an exclusive residential area for the very wealthy. Rodolphe Derlanger, who lived here from 1909, liked blue and white and forced the blue and white architecture. In this way, the construction of disorderly buildings on the cape was prohibited,
Resulting in a village with a sense of unity. Proceed further down the main street. Sidi Bou Said faces the Mediterranean Sea, so you can see the sea. The white dome and sea look like Santorini in Greece. Head to the most popular spot in Sidi Bou Said. I went to Cafe Sidi Shabaan.
From the cafe, you can see the blue parasols, the sea, and the white dome. The ocean is spread out in the back of the cafe, and the view is spectacular. Even the tables are all blue. You can order drinks and sweets here. The bottom row is the special seat.
From here you could see the yacht harbor and the beach. The view from below is also beautiful. The orange bougainvillea are cute ♡ The town itself is compact and if you just walk on the main street, you can get there and back in 30 minutes.
The entrance is noisy, but the deeper you go, the quieter it becomes. Tunisian doors are distinctive in their decoration and shape. Tunisian Door in Sidi Bou Said is, of course, a lot of blue. The door features Islamic symbols such as a crescent moon and a star. I also walked down the alley.
The area in the back is a hotel and residences. There are also a lot of cats in Sidi Bou Said. Even the mosque is blue and white. You can feel the history in the arch. Return to the main street. The plates and carpets are lined up and colorful everywhere you look!
There are also houses in Sidi Bou Said that you can tour. This time I went to Dar el Annabi. Here you can see life in Sidi Bou Said from the 18th to the 20th century. The residents wear beautiful Arab clothes and chat. There are 50 rooms inside the mansion.
Each room has a different purpose and is furnished with furniture, making it a sight to behold. The sun terrace was sunny and full of greenery. Once you exit the building, head to the courtyard. The mansion has been built over and over again, so there are rooms in various locations.
First, go to the first floor. There are green, yellow, and blue tiles that are characteristic of Kairouan tiles. Go up the stairs to the second floor. There is a space at the top of the stairs where you can rest a little.
The next room is surrounded by tiles, so it looks like you can sleep on the carpet. The ceiling carvings and stained glass are beautiful♪ You can overlook the courtyard from the second floor. Next is a tent-like place. There is a library here. The shelves are lined with books.
There is a study in the back. The living room is so cute with colorful bottles and tableware! Since the mansion is made up of several buildings, there are also doors inside the buildings. We also saw mosaics. Climb the tile stairs to the second floor.
The room, which looks like a combination of study and dining room, has a stylish red chandelier. There is a tagine pot in the kitchen. All the chandeliers are elaborate and fun to look at. This is the bedroom. The red chairs and curtains are gorgeous! The windows are colorful and cute!
Go up the stairs and go to the roof. Finally, climb the blue stairs to the observation deck. From here you can enjoy a panoramic view of the town of Sidi Bou Said. It’s a world of blue and white everywhere you look. We could even see the courtyard of Dar El Annabi!
The roof tiles are also cute! There are arches on the other rooftops, giving it a Tunisian feel. Climb the cute tile stairs to reach another rooftop. It’s lively as it faces the main street. There is a bedroom here. There was so much more to see than I expected.
I was able to see the Tunisian-style rooms and the view from above, so I was very satisfied. Return to town. Finally, we headed to the stylish cafe “Ben Rahim”. In Tunisia, there are many Arab-style cafes for men only, but European-style cafes are quite rare.
Ben Rahim is a stylish cafe with delicious-looking sweets lined up. I drank a cafe latte. Creamy and delicious! There is also a second floor, but you can enjoy tea while looking out at the square from the terrace seats. What you can see in front of you is a mosque called Alghfran Mosque.
I thought about taking the train back to Tunis, but there were no trains coming, so I took the Bolt. Sidi Bou Said was the place I was most looking forward to in Tunisia. Everywhere I looked, a world of blue and white spread out and it was beautiful.
When it comes to the blue and white town, Santorini in Greece is famous, but it also has a Tunisian feel, so it was nice to have a different atmosphere from Santorini. On the way back, we passed through the sea to Tunis. This concludes today’s video. Thank you for watching until the end.
