Welcome to OSHIRO. My name is Katsuie Shibata. He is the chief retainer of the Oda family. Right away, there’s a problem. The fort in question is a castle that was the scene of a famous battle, but I wonder which battle this castle was used in.
1 Battle of Komaki Nagakute 2 Battle of Sekigahara 3 Battle of Tedorigawa 4 Battle of Shizugatake Answers are in the program. hello everyone. Today I went to visit the castle again. The castle we visited today is called Genbao Castle. Let’s go right away.
The castle I visited this time was Genbao Castle. Genbao Castle is the castle that served as the headquarters of Katsuie Shibata during the Battle of Shizugatake.
The year is 1582. Oda Nobunaga was killed in the Honnoji Incident. At this time, his eldest son Nobutada Oda was also killed by Akechi Mitsuhide at Nijo Imperial Palace.
For this reason, a meeting is held in the Oda family regarding the inheritance of the family headship. His second son, Nobuo Oda, failed to gain the support of his vassals and dropped out.
The third son, Nobutaka Oda, gained the support of Katsuie Shibata. Near the end of the meeting, Hashiba Hideyoshi supports Nobutada Oda’s eldest son, Yoshihoshi. This is supported by Nagahide Niwa and Tsuneoki Ikeda.
Katsuie Shibata had no choice but to agree with the opinion of Hideyoshi, who had a strong position in the Oda family due to his accomplishments such as defeating Mitsuhide Akechi. The Oda family will be succeeded by Oda Nobutada’s eldest son, Sanboshi. However, he is still young.
Katsuie Shibata, Nobutaka Oda’s camp, and Hideyoshi Hashiba’s camp arranged their surroundings to increase the number of their allies. It seems that Kagekatsu Uesugi, who had a hostile relationship with Katsuie Shibata, followed Hideyoshi Hashiba, and Motochika Chosokabe of Shikoku and the Saiga clan of Kishu followed Katsuie Shibata.
Katsuie Shibata sends a letter to Hidemasa Hori. It criticized Hideyoshi’s actions such as the unfair distribution of territory at the Kiyosu Conference. But next month. Katsuie Shibata and Hideyoshi Hashiba proceeded with peace negotiations and at some point reached an agreement. The time is November.
Due to snow falling in Hokuriku, Katsuie Shibata was unable to move his army. Hideyoshi saw through Katsuie Shibata’s intentions. They took hostages from various generals in the Kinai area and strengthened the defense of the castle. Hashiba Hideyoshi broke his peace with Shibata Katsuie.
At the Kiyosu Conference, they attacked Nagahama Castle, which had become Shibata territory. I will take it under my umbrella. He begins to attack the forces within the Oda family that oppose Hideyoshi.
He marched through Mino and took hostages from Ittetsu Inaba and others, and then attacked Nobutaka Oda at Gifu Castle. Nobutaka Oda surrendered. Next, Kazumasu Takigawa of Ise raised an army. It was a clear statement of support for Katsuie Shibata.
Hashiba’s army attacks Nagashima Castle, Kazumasu Takigawa’s main castle, but Takigawa’s army shows considerable tenacity. During the stalemate, Nobutaka Oda of Mino rebelled against Hideyoshi again. Finally, Katsuie Shibata, the chief retainer of the Oda family, came into conflict with Hideyoshi Hashiba.
Unable to withstand Hideyoshi’s onslaught, they raised an army without waiting for the snow in Hokuriku to thaw. Katsuie Shibata’s army numbered 30,000. Hideyoshi Hashiba’s army, on the other hand, was 50,000 strong. Both sides build forts and it becomes a stalemate.
However, the war finally begins to move. What changed was the battle situation in the Omi area. Hideyoshi, who had enemies on three fronts: Omi, Ise, and Mino, retreated to Ogaki Castle.
Morimasa Sakuma, Shibata Katsuie’s fierce general, saw this as a good opportunity and proposed to Katsuie an attack on Oiwayama Fort. Katsuie consented, and Morimasa Sakuma went to war. Sakuma, who had captured Fort Oiwayama, remained on the front lines, aiming to expand his military results.
Katsuie Shibata feared that Sakuma would be isolated among the enemy and ordered him to retreat, but Morimasa Sakuma did not comply. Nagahide Niwa, who was crossing Lake Biwa, joins the Hashiba army. Niwa’s subordinates advised him to retreat to Omi Sakamoto, but Nagahide Niwa refused. He decided to side with Hideyoshi Hashiba.
Shigeharu Kuwayama, who was in charge of Shizugatake Fort, was retreating when he met up with Nagahide Niwa. The two dispersed Sakuma’s army. Exactly on the same day, April 20th. Hashiba Hideyoshi saw an opportunity when the Sakuma army pushed out to Oiwayama Fort and took action.
I returned to Hokuriku from Mino Ogaki with tremendous force. Hideyoshi is doing something similar to China’s big comeback against Akechi here. They marched 52 km from Ogaki to Kinomoto in 5 hours. It’s Mino’s big return. Then, the armies of Katsumasa Shibata and Morimasa Sakuma engage in a fierce battle with Hideyoshi’s army.
The seven people who played an active role in this battle, Kiyomasa Kato, Masanori Fukushima, Yoshiaki Kato, Nagayasu Hirano, Yasuharu Wakisaka, Takenori Kasuya, and Katsumoto Katagiri, became the Seven Spears of Shizugatake. Maeda Toshiie, who had been stationed at Shigeyama and was under the control of Shibata Katsuie, began to retreat.
For some reason, the rear began to retreat, causing Katsuie Shibata’s entire army to become shaken. The front line has been destroyed and everyone begins to retreat. Katsuie Shibata’s main army was outnumbered and began retreating to Hokusho Castle.
Genbao Castle, which I visited this time, is the headquarters of Katsuie Shibata. Katsuie Shibata retreated from this castle without a fight. Since then, the castle has remained untouched, so the remains of the castle remain as it was at the time of the battle.
Everyone. Are you enjoying visiting the castle? Let’s quickly check the answers. Which battle was this castle the scene of? The answer is #4, the Battle of Shizugatake. This is the castle that became my headquarters.
It is a rare castle with all the remains of the mountain castle from that time remaining, so please go and see it once. When you climb the mountain, a fortress suddenly appears in front of you, which is very exciting.
Now for the rest of the time. Please take a leisurely tour of Genbao Castle. Oh, that’s Nobunaga-sama over there. Please wait. Monkeys are outrageous. The Oda family is plotting to take over the world. Oh my god. Thank you for watching until the end. How was your visit to the castle this time?
