Naha is the capital of Okinawa, the southern most prefecture in Japan. Naha is bustling with energy, but at the same time, retains lots of character as many old areas are still thriving. On this video, I’m going to show you some of my favorite spots in this city.

  1. ube is a yam like yamaimo; Beniimo/murasakiimo is a type of satsuma imo

  2. Hey Shinichi, I hope you w joyed your nice cold drink. Oh by the way, birds pooping on you is good luck, well that’s what they tell us here in Australia….

  3. Yes, looks very similar to Hawaii. I would go just for the A&W rootbeer restaurant…they are no longer in Hawaii. Love seeing your walks, but be sure to rest and hydrate!

  4. Thanks for the video, I stationed near by at Camp Kinser back in 1985. I barely went outside Camp the whole year when I stayed there. I wish I can visit soon

  5. thank you for this wonderful video. I lived there in the 80’s and enjoyed those little side streets. Kokusai Dori was my favorite place. I loved their vegetables! Of course lots has changed but I enjoy the contrast of the new vs old structures. Those alleyways and covered shopping areas were some of my favorite spots. I’m thinking of going back for a visit! Thanks so much for letting me share your adventure!

  6. I enjoy viewing so much your video. I recognize some places but I notice many places have changed and are no longer there. I like the updates, regarding the shotengai Okinawans call it the machigwa. Did you pass the Heiwadori?

  7. Ohhh.. there are a lot of graffitis. Didn’t see that much in hiroshima and tokyo back then.

  8. You really love CALAMANSI, you mention it again. The first one in a previous video, I think also about Okinawa. But what caught my attention is when you stop on shop with purple yam and mentioned the word UBE. That's a purple yam here in the Philippines that is also good and delicious.

Hope to be back in Japan though Okinawa would be a stretch. Happy to have your videos fill in the gap. Thanks!

  9. Kokusai-Dori was one of my favorite places while living in Okinawa. When COVID restrictions lifted some and we were able to go back to Naha, it was so empty and sad. A lot of businesses had closed due to COVID.

  10. Everytime when I see people on YouTube showing Okinawa how nice place that is, I’m always kicking my butt that I had never visited there after born in Japan (Osaka) and lived all across Japan for 26 yrs from Hokaido to Kyushu island and never took an opportunity to go to Okinawa!! I’ve been living in Vancouver, Canada for 28 yrs now and my desire to travel to Japan including the beautiful island of Okinawa is getting stronger but things are not easy for me to travel back to Japan at least for now. But thanks to you, Shinichi, at least you have been taking me to a different places in Japan with your awesome videos so better than not seeing anything at all. So I appreciate that you are showing us around many places even though sometimes you get pooped on by birds. 😂😂 Yes, some say that’s a sign of good luck but I dare to say that’s a “bull sh**”! 😂😂(now two animal’s sh**!) Anyway, I hope one day I will be able to visit everywhere in Japan once my life settles and have a chance to travel again…😔🥱😒✈️🗾✨💖

  11. 🏃🐦🌷🌷May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His STRIPES we are HEALED."👨‍🦯🚴‍♂🐬🌹

God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone…" Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?

  12. In 1976 , I was a young man who joined the U.S. army and was stationed just north of Naha, at Machiminato Army base. It was at the time an Army Depot. I served as U.S. Military Police. I would love to visit and maybe stay and die there.

  13. This guy is good…I was stationed in Naha Okinawa during 1967/68 with the US Air Force. The was a USO somewhere along Kokusai Dori near where the walk began, but I suspect it's gone. I had my own car and we drove on the American side of the street until it changed to the Japanese side in 1974. It looks the same now as then, except that it's all so built up, even over-built. It's still the same nice place and I miss my time there. It's been said that you can't go home…

  14. Great video! Does anyone speak English in Naha?

Also, do you think it's "bicycle friendly" ?
