Photo by #CanonExplorerOfLight @blair.bunting: “When change is as ferocious and artful as a freight train through burning leaves, and the world feels like all is dying, there’s a beauty that comes with photographing an object so complex and dynamic that for a moment I’m caught up in all that comes with moving forward.

Freight trains are engineered for this kind of intensity—a grueling force of onward motion. Several tons of mass accelerating with such swiftness that you can’t help but become awestruck at its magnitude. Like seasons changing, it evokes an inspiration of leaving what’s behind for what comes next.

And maybe you didn’t know how hard it would be to move on. When I lost my dog Riley in October 2021, the grief was a weight that became hard to shake. The leaves I captured in the photos are the same ones he used to play in my backyard. The way I see it, what gave him so much joy has become a kind of hope for me, a symbol of propulsion for what’s to come.

May the art of moving forward only make you stronger. May what you left behind only serve as inspiration for all the good to come.”
