@darrellgulin’s journey to becoming a #CanonExplorerOfLight: “When I photographed this snarly grizzly bear, along with my younger son, at the Sequim Washington Game Farm I had no idea of its impact on my photographic career.

It was taken in 1985 with my Canon F-1 35mm single-lens reflex camera. This grizzly Image is very conceptual making for a great image to be used in marketing. It can invoke power, strength, aggression, danger, and more. This image taught me the importance of photographing with concepts in mind. I find that a Great Image can stand the tests of time. Through stock photography sales, teaching workshops, and presenting, along with my own marketing of images, especially into the paper products arena, I went into photography full time in 1992.

I have always said that to be successful in the field of photography you need to be a great photographer, great at business, and great with your interpersonal skills. This led me to how I met @georgelepp and he introduced me to Canon.

After working with Canon at multiple events, in 2006 Canon came to me and offered me a spot as a Canon Explorer of Light, which has been the pinnacle of my photographic career. Who would have known taking that bear image, so many years ago, would help me along the path to becoming a Canon Explorer of Light as a wildlife, nature, and travel photographer.”
