“Since I’m a commercial fashion and wedding photographer, I rely heavily on very fast lenses for the entire focal length range up to 200mm. Most of my wedding assignments are shot at f/2.0 or faster for the entire wedding. Most of my fashion projects range between f/4 to f/16. For this reason, I invest in lenses that meet these criteria. The only exception here is the RF800mm F11 IS STM. I purchased this lens for fun! I believe you must experiment with lenses that you normally would never use on your job for personal enjoyment. This keeps photography interesting and exciting. I would never bring an 800mm lens to any assignment, but I have had so much fun with it at any location I bring it to.
Although I have switched completely to the mirrorless EOS R system, I still keep my Canon EOS-1D X Mark II around. That camera is a workhorse and extremely reliable. I still own a few key EF lenses. For example, two of my all-time favorite lenses are the EF 200mm f/2L IS USM and the EF 11-24mm F4L USM. I’m also a huge fan and advocate of using flash on almost all of my photos indoors or out. So, I invested in the best flash in the world, the Canon Speedlite EL-1. This flash is incredible and worth every penny!
