I met Richie in 1996 after we both had been training to make prestigious national teams, him as a boxer and myself as a sailor. I’ve photographed Richie quite a bit and for this portrait, I wanted to get a shallow depth of field and a close-up of him. He taped up his hands and I worked on the positioning of them and the intensity of his gaze into the camera. I’m big on eyebrow activity, so had Richie work the brows a bunch along with a hint of a smile. I loved this particular frame shot of this champ!”
