“’Hey Rick, why did you switch from Canon digital SLRs to Canon mirrorless cameras?’ That’s one of the questions I get asked most often.
My answer is surprising to most folks, as I don’t talk about the smaller size and lighter weight. I switched, first to the Canon EOS R (as soon as it was introduced), because the viewfinder is amazing. What you see is what you get. You see the effect of exposure compensation. You see a live histogram. You can also review your photographs without taking your eye away from the viewfinder, which is helpful when photographing people. What’s more, the touch screen makes adjusting camera settings fast and easy.
Then came the EOS R6 and EOS R5. Game changers, big game-changers, for wildlife photographers due, in part, to the Animal Tracking/Eye Detection features, as well as super fast autofocusing.
