“This male cardinal taking to flight was photographed on the ranch in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, during a photography workshop I led. Fast shutter speeds are the norm for action shots, and in this case, 1/1000th sec allowed for a bit of blur in the wingtips. Normally I would suggest at least 1/2000th sec to better freeze the entire bird. Captured with a Canon EOS R5, EF-R adapter, EF 600mm f/4L IS III USM lens at f/7.1, 1/1000th sec, ISO 500, using animal eye-tracking and electronic shutter. The camera was configured to use CRAW files to provide approximately 40% more images per memory card. Note: the final image size is identical to the full RAW setting.”
