I first spotted this stately butte while exploring the mouth of a nearby canyon and became all the more interested in it when I realized that there was a river in the vicinity. After a day of exploring other tributaries that looked promising, this little river bend presented itself as the most compelling option because of the way that it aligned so nicely with the butte. Photographing this sunrise meant staying an additional night in the area, but it was well worth a change in plans to see this scene come to life in the morning light.”
