“One of the more exciting benefits of an ultra-wide angle lens is having the option to emphasize a relatively small detail of nature as a major compositional element. With the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM lens, it is possible to fill the frame with a feature that most people would not even notice. This patch of foliage in the Icelandic Highlands measured only about two feet across, but a close inspection revealed the beauty of its delicate and elegant tendrils contrasting against the black sand desert. I positioned my camera very close to the ground and zoomed out to 11mm, which allowed me to show off the forms of the vines while placing them in context by including a volcano rising above ridge lines in the distance.”
