Morocco’s small city of Chefchaouen nestled in the glorious scenery of the Rif mountains is famous for its vibrant blue streets. There are a few beliefs as to why the city’s walls are painted blue:
To follow Jewish custom – In Jewish beliefs, the colour blue represents the sky, which in turn reminds people of heaven and god.
To keep mosquitoes away – the streets look like flowing water which deters mosquitoes
To look attractive – in Islamic culture blue is said to be a colour of happiness and optimism
To represent water – the city’s blue looks a similar colour to the Ras el-Maa waterfall where citizens get there drinking water and therefore is vital to a city in the dessert.
Whatever the reason was it makes for a fantastic city to walk the streets and explore!
Swipe for orange juice 😂🙌
