Photo by #CanonExplorerOfLight @joelgrimesworkshops: “Here is a recent image from a class I was teaching. This image of Cowboy Joe was created using the Canon EOS R5 and the RF24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM lens. For this shot, I demonstrated how to build a dramatic portrait by overpowering the sun, darkening the background, and allowing the strobe to create an ultra contrast on the subject. For the lighting, I used one strobe light, a softbox, and set my camera to ISO 100, f/2.8, and 1/200th of a second with a six-stop neutral density filter. The strobe was set at full power, producing around f/22 light to my subject, but by applying the six-stop ND filter, I was able to set the aperture of my camera to f/2.8. This gave me the ability to create a shallow depth of field, eliminating clutter from the background.”
