I found a great new lens with Canon’s RF400mm F2.8 L IS USM lens. I consider lenses somewhat like the brushes of a painter — the lenses create the emotional connection to the image, and they shape both the subject and the background in the frame. For this new lens, I love the incredibly sharp and fast autofocus, and the ability to shoot at f/2.8 for a very shallow depth of field.
I took the lens out to the cliffs with my EOS R5 camera for a rock climbing shoot. I was blown away by the image stabilization, which allowed me to capture sharp images even when hand-holding the shots at 1/80th of a second. I rarely need a tripod with this lens and camera, so I can shoot more freely and experiment with different frames — even when hanging on a rope.”
