Photo by #CanonCreator @nathanleeallen: “It may seem like a cliché, but some of the moments are unplanned.

This shot took place on my recent trip to Maui after watching a breathtaking sunset on top of Haleakalā Summit, surrounded by clouds.

We were driving down the long, winding switchbacks of the Haleakalā Highway, and the soft glow of blue hour was starting to set in, when I saw a perfect hairpin turn, with the perfect clouds in the background. I pulled off as soon as I could, and my sister-in-law @sav_layne immediately said, ‘Wanna go shoot?’ That was the invitation I was hoping for.

I grabbed my EOS R5, RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM lens and a circular polarizer filter and leapt out of the car. I jogged several yards before the hairpin turn, so I had enough space to compress my subject (Savannah) as she walked along the outer edge of the road, with the blue hour backdrop in the background. The result was about as magical as that evening.

No image could capture the splendor of a cloud-filled Haleakalā Summit sunset, but this photo was as about as close as I could get. So thankful for this beautiful moment on top of the world, and the unplanned photo that will help me always remember.”

Ciao, Nihon.
