Find out what’s in #CanonExplorerOfLight @davidhumekennerly’s gear bag!
“The Canon EOS R5 has become my go-to camera even though I still carry the EOS 5DS R body around as an emotional crutch! Mirrorless is the future, and much like when I switched from film to digital in mid-2000, mirrorless is where I’m heading.
The lenses I use most are the RF50mm F1.2 L USM, EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, and the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM.
The RF50mm F1.2 L USM is amazing for portraits, particularly in low light. I’ve never seen a sharper lens, and primarily shoot it wide open for zeroing in on the subject. This piece of glass makes you and whomever you are photographing heroic!
The EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM is your answer if you can only carry one lens. It is the utility outfielder of lenses, and you can use it for everything from portraits to sports. We normally have way more choices than that, but if you’re stuck for space, this one is the answer. I will be getting the RF24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM shortly.
The EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM medium telephoto zoom is essential. You can shoot everything from sports to headshots with this one, and it’s fast enough for low light situations. I never leave home without it!
The RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM blows me away. This is a brilliant item. I love photographing birds and wildlife, it’s fantastic for that. It’s also perfect for the old politician-at-a-podium pic, so it works for the feathered and the formidable alike.
I also haul the EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM that I’ve had since 1995 and the EF 135mm f/2L USM. Both are great portrait lenses and are really sharp wide open. They will make your subjects look fabulous.
The RF800mm F11 IS STM is so light you might think it’s filled with helium. This lens is also a terrific wildlife lens, and despite being an f/11 preset, is very versatile. You might consider using a unipod with this one, but you can also handhold it to good effect.
The three most important words to me in the English language? Canon, Canon, Canon!”
