Kites in Japan go back millennia, and in this video we tour the largest kite museum in Japan: the Shirone Kite Museum outside Niigata. Get up close to some of the largest kites in the world in this exceptionally well done museum. There are hundreds of kites of all shapes and sizes and we learn the history of the Shirone Kite Battles that date back to the middle Edo Period. This is the number one thing to see and do in Niigata absolutely a must see. This is one of the most unique museums in Japan

We’re John and Josephine and we have more than 163 years of family history in Japan. Josephine was born and raised in Japan. Her father, grandfather and great grandfather and grandmother were all born and lived their lives in Japan; all of them being Americans.
