Longgang is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province, administered by Wenzhou City. It is situated on the south bank of the estuary of the Aojiang River, one of the eight major river systems in Zhejiang Province, at the intersection of two national strategies: the Yangtze River Delta and the Economic Zone on the West Coast of the Taiwan Straits. It borders Cangnan County to the north and Pingyang County to the south.The city covers an area of 183.99 square kilometers. By the end of 2024, it had 102 communities under its direct jurisdiction, with a permanent population of 476,800. Local dialects include Wenzhou dialect (Wu language), Manhua dialect, and Minnan dialect.
Located in southern Wenzhou on the coast of the East China Sea, Longgang has a terrain that is higher in the southwest and lower in the northeast. It lies in the Aojiang River Basin, with a dense network of rivers and small tributaries forming the Jiangnan water network. It has a subtropical maritime monsoon climate, with mild winters and cool summers, and an annual average temperature of 17.9°C. In 1981, the area south of the Aojiang River was separated from Pingyang County to establish Cangnan County.In 1983, Longgang was approved as a town by the Zhejiang Provincial Government.In 1985, Longgang District was added.In 1992, Longgang District and its affiliated townships were revoked to establish the new Longgang Town.In 2014, it became one of the first national pilot towns for comprehensive new-type urbanization.In August 2019, with the approval of the State Council, Longgang was established as a county-level city. It was officially inaugurated on September 25, 2019, directly under Zhejiang Province and administered by Wenzhou City, governing 73 administrative villages and 30 communities.Longgang became China’s first new county-level city without towns or subdistricts.Following the reform of “villages converted into communities” in 2020, it directly governed 102 communities by 2021.
Longgang is a benchmark and model for China’s new-type urbanization and modernization. It has achieved three historic leaps:from a small fishing village to a “city of farmers”,from a city of farmers to an industrial city,and from an industrial city to a county-level city.
Known as China’s Printing City, it has developed three pillar traditional industries: printing and packaging, new materials, and green textiles.
In 2024, Longgang’s GDP reached 44.373 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.5% at comparable prices.In the first half of 2025, its GDP growth rate reached 7.2%.
In December 2025, Longgang issued the Opinions on Further Implementing a New Round of “City-Strengthening Action”, Accelerating the Promotion of New-Type Urbanization, and Speeding up the Construction of a Modern People’s City.

龙港市2019年8月之前只是一个乡镇级别，后面直接升级为县级市（县级）由省直管温州市代管。之前的上级单位县级领导管不了它了。
