The quiet spring shrine where rapeseed flowers bloom – Mishima Shrine, Futami, Ehime, Japan

Futami is a small town by the sea located in northwestern Ehime Prefecture, Japan.
If you climb the long stone steps that stretch from the seaside to the mountainside, you will arrive at Mishima Shrine, which features a magnificent tower gate. There is an interesting legend that a turtle carrying a ritual implement on its back swam to the beach and ran up into this forest, which is why the shrine was built here. For this reason, statues of turtles, which look like guardian dogs, can be seen on the shrine grounds, which are unusual for a shrine.
