My weekend in Bangkok’s suburban paradise began in Muang Thong Thani, a neighborhood that feels calm, spacious, and refreshingly different from the city center. Staying at 55th Accommodation set the tone for the trip — quiet streets, wide sidewalks, and a strong sense of local routine. Mornings were slow and relaxed, starting with a walk to Mitte Coffee, where good coffee and a laid-back atmosphere made it easy to settle into the suburban rhythm of the area.

As the day unfolded, I explored how Muang Thong Thani balances everyday life with large-scale attractions. The area is home to Impact Arena, a major venue that brings international concerts and events right into the neighborhood. Just nearby, Cosmo Mall added a more local, practical side — a place where residents shop, eat, and spend time without the crowds you’d expect in central Bangkok.

To round out the weekend, I spent time outdoors, which is where this suburb really shines. A stroll through a Beautiful Park highlighted how green and open the area feels, especially in the late afternoon. The day ended near Muang Thong Thani Football Stadium, where local sports culture and community energy came together. Overall, the weekend showed why Muang Thong Thani earns its reputation as Bangkok’s suburban paradise — peaceful, livable, and quietly full of character.

    You're right about that exquisite open area exercise space. People here in Toronto Canada would most likely respect it, but the frigging winter, especially the one we are just coming out of, would do it in. However, we do manage to keep the city bicycle – pay as you use – stations open everywhere around the downtown core. Thanks for the tour around this lovely Bangkok suburb. Gotta love it, eh! dcb

    First of all, congratulations on the marriage! Wishing you both a happy life together.

    I’m also really glad you made this video about Muang Thong Thani. This area has a very special place in my heart. I spent 12 wonderful years living there, and it was an amazing period of my life. Unfortunately, at the beginning of COVID I moved back to the city center for personal reasons, but I still own property there and I’m sure I’ll return one day in the not-too-distant future.

    PS: Red Hot Chili Peppers played at IMPACT Arena back in 2004 and I had the privilege of seeing them live there. One of those unforgettable nights.

    Muang Thong Thani was the very first place that i lived in when i moved to Thailand some 20 years ago. STILL love that area as one of my favorites. I lived in the "Popular Condos" area not far from Impact Arena. The FOOD COURT located within the Popular Condo section of Muang Thong is excellent!!

    I lived there from 2005 to 2010. Back then it was still quite peaceful, and Chaeng Wattana Road was a relatively quiet street. I still love that area, especially with Ko Kret so close by.

    Just visited Khao San Rd today for the first time in 25 years, extremely sad to see my beloved hangout change so much I can barely recognise it. It's still alive in my mind as a true hippie hangout.
