Slow travel in Nagoya: Sumo, ceramics and food 🇯🇵

Join us as we slow travel in and around Nagoya, Japan’s third-largest city, but often overlooked by international visitors. If you know where to look, you’ll find culture, craftsmanship, and local flavours.

In this video, we visit Tokoname, one of Japan’s most important pottery towns, known for its centuries-old ceramic traditions and its charming maneki-neko (lucky cat) statues. Wandering its quiet streets, we discover kilns, clay artistry, and a deep connection to handmade craft.

Next, we head to the newly built IG Arena to watch our favorite sumo wrestlers compete in the summer tournament. It’s an unmissable experience full of tradition and excitement.
We also explore the Noritake Garden complex, where we admire refined porcelain works and unwind in beautifully maintained green spaces that blend history with modern design.

Of course, we enjoyed some local Nagoya restaurants chains that deliver a lot of bold flavours.
