⁴ᴷ Kochi: Susaki Station (高知県: 須崎駅) – Japan Walking Tour (January, 2026)

I’ve decided to take an off-season trip back to my hometown in Kobe, using it as a starting point for a journey all the way around Shikoku. Traveling south from Takamatsu, I drove along the scenic coastline from Katsurahama to reach Susaki City.

Susaki Station was under renovation during my last visit, but the new building is finally complete. With its brick-style exterior and a triangular roof covered in scale-shaped shingles, it now has a charming, almost fairytale-like atmosphere. It’s quite a change from the blunt, unadorned Showa-era look I remember—a transformation that feels both fresh and a little nostalgic.

Being a Sunday night, the town fell into a deep hush after sunset. Aside from a few people out walking their dogs, the streets were deserted, offering a peaceful glimpse into the quiet pace of life in this coastal city.
