Winter Games 2006 vs 2026 | Abandoned Olympic Sites in Italy

Exploring the abandoned 2006 Winter Olympics (subtitles available) Episode #227

While Olympics fans are watching the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games, we went to the part nobody broadcasts: the abandoned venues that often remain once the spectacle is over. In this video, we explore two deserted sites from the Torino 2006 Winter Games: the silent ice track of Cesana Pariol (where Olympic athletes competed in bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton) and Pragelato’s Stadio del Trampolino, where ski jumpers once launched into the air. 1. Well… The Olympic Committee didn't like what we did. This video is a reupload. The previous upload was taken down following a copyright claim by the IOC, because we used archival footage licensed by them. We've updated the edit and reuploaded the episode accordingly. Let us know what you think about the video!

  2. It's a good thing to know that someone was watching and taking you very seriously. So seriously, that they had to jump in and decide that you had done something wrong. That could mean that you are doing something right!

  3. Da krieg ich echt soooo'n Hals! Ist ja nicht so, als wäre Cortina unerreichbar weit weg von Turin! Stattdessen bauen sie wieder neu, um es dann nach den Spielen wieder verkommen zu lassen (vermutlich). 🤬

  4. Only a minute in and am already 😢 because citizens should have had access to what is; and to see it abandoned and knowing big buck$ being spent on new breaks my ❤

  5. Glad that the video is back. I watched it the first time. It is so clear that the Olympic Committee did not liked your clear and honest thoughts.

  6. Excellent documentary guys, really does make you wonder why they would not fix up and reuse many of those venues rather than build new

  7. My husband is a welder and works union. He says projects like these, all they do is thorw money at the project and want it doneast week. Sometimes corners are cut to make the deadline. Then once the project is completed it gets used before slowly fading into obscurity. So bringing it up to code would create a bugger can if worms than it would to build a new facility. Less paperwork involved. It might be better for the environment but they want results now. I know the ine villiage wants to see the ski jump remived, but if they wanted to they coild turn the ryesore into an opportunity for turism. I've seen plaves where in the summer they send tourists down the ski jumps on inner tubes with spinklers spaying down the jump to make it slick. If they were to do something similar it coukd potentially bring in tourism and help boost the lical economy. But then thats just my two bits. It really is frustrating to go and carve up a mountain and build a structure to be used for one event then just leave it to rot. They don't seem to care one way or the other about the impact it has not only on the environment, but the overall visual appeal to a town. I imagine it might be like having a race track built next to your house in a matter of months. Having to listen to the races for a few short weeks then everything is just abadoned and now you have to live next to the eyesore. Great video guys. I guess you stuck a nerve with yesterday's video.

  8. Wow, a classic BWT explore, stunning scenery, amazing drone footage, I loved the previews at the end!!

  9. So luge, bobsled, skeleton- they all used this same track? Didn’t know that.
What a beautiful area. Great video, and good timing (except for IOC notice) on posting this content. Abandoned Italy has always been one of your great series.

  10. 😲 Very strange, uploaded 1 hour ago, commented 2 hours ago and I viewed it more than 20 hours ago❗

  11. That's sad. "Too expensive to maintain, and too expensive to remove"… It should be part of the Olympic budget to cleanup and dismantle (maybe save parts to reuse for other events in the future??)

  12. Rewatching again. Shame the IOC doesn't realize the long term damage, issues, etc they cause communities. They probably do, but don't care, as long as they make $.

  13. Good episode, went into the details of the background. So sad these places cannot be re-used, such a waste of money.

  14. It is so sad to see so much public money wasted for only very little time of attention, monky to fall in disrepair and abandonment. It is important to document this ill-spending to get peoples attention to whatnthe Olympics mostly are these days: money making schemes for some big bozos, exploiting athletes and tax payer money. Sad to see that most people still don‘t get it.
