Welcome to Japan and come along as we take a beautiful day trip from Osaka to Mount Yoshino, one of the most famous cherry blossom spots in Nara. We started our morning by taking the train from Osaka Abenobashi Station to Yoshino Station, and even before the blossoms, the journey itself felt calm and scenic.
From Yoshino, we took the ropeway up to Yoshinoyama Station to reach the upper area, and it cost 500 yen per person. If you prefer, you can also take the free shuttle bus or walk all the way up, but it was freezing cold early in the morning, so we were happy to get up quickly and save our legs for exploring.
Mount Yoshino is known for its layered cherry blossom trees, with the blooms moving from the lower section to the middle section and then up to the upper section. We were a little early, maybe about a week early for peak sakura, so only a few trees were fully bloomed, but we still saw some beautiful weeping cherry blossom trees and lots of peaceful views along the way.
One of our favorite parts was how serene everything felt. Yoshino is filled with quiet temples, and walking between them in the cold morning air felt like stepping into a different world. We spent time soaking in that stillness, wandering past temple paths, and taking it slow while the mountain slowly woke up.
And of course, the food. There were so many food stalls and souvenir shops, so we couldnโt resist trying a few local bites. We had a baked yomogi rice cake, then grabbed a fried chicken onigiri to warm up while we continued exploring. Later, we stopped for a much needed coffee at a restaurant right opposite Kinpusenji Temple. It was very old and cozy, and honestly it was exactly what we needed to thaw out.
Even though we missed the full bloom by a little, this day was still so special, cold morning air, temple calm, early spring hints of sakura, and those quiet moments on Mount Yoshino that weโll remember for a long time.
