Rising above the valley on a fortified hilltop, this castle has stood guard over Spain for more than 800 years. 🏰⏳

Built on a site already fortified in Roman times, the castle grew into one of the most imposing medieval fortresses in the region. Over the centuries, it passed through the hands of kings, nobles, and powerful families. ⚔️👑

Inside, the contrast is striking.

Grand halls and ceremonial rooms speak of wealth and prestige, while narrow staircases, service kitchens, and hidden corridors reveal the unseen labor that kept a place like this running.

After centuries in private hands, the castle was eventually abandoned — yet remarkably, much of its interior remained untouched. When we entered, furniture, historical treasures, and personal traces were still in place, as if time had simply stepped away. 🌬️

This exploration captures the castle at that exact moment.
Shortly after, the municipality took over the site, marking the first time in its long history that Castillo de Escalona became public heritage. Since then, its interiors have been cleared, preparing the castle for a new future.

Plans are now being discussed to transform this medieval fortress into a hotel — opening spaces once reserved for nobility to everyone. 🏨✨

What you’re seeing here is a final look at a private world that no longer exists.

    It actually looks "clean" to be an abandonment. The most likely scenario is that it’s owned by the city council and is currently under renovation or at least scheduled for it. Or even open in certain seasons. Cool exploration tho.

    Esse castelo foi reconstruído no século XIV por determinação do próprio Don Juan Manuel sobre uma antiga fortificação muçulmana localizada num monte que domina a vila de Cifuentes.Durante a idade moderna, o castelo deixou de ser residência habitual da nobreza e perdeu sua função residencial permanente, sendo progressivamente desocupado como casa nobre até o século XIX, quando os senhorios feudais foram abolidos em 1812 na Espanha e as grandes residências nobres perderam seus privilégios tradicionais

    Hey dear Maureno, Explomo, this is a truly outstanding explore adventure in a magnificient Spanish castle with such a rich history! I had to rewatch your video and was finally able to see so many details which I didn't notice during the lifestream. – Wonderfully furnished rooms with many antique or at least interesting vintage items. – I especially loved that very grand room with the long table and the beautiful grand piano! And – wow, that richly decorated very ornate and unusual archway made me nearly speechless! Also some of the bedrooms were incredibly stunning to see! – Remon did an excellent job how he presented the magnificient interior! – Of course it is very fortunate, that this whole location is now protected and open to public, but somehow it looked much more alive with the furniture and everything else in it. So you were really lucky to have been able exploring there at the right time, when it was looking exactly the way, the former owners left rhis place behind.
    Great explore, one of your very best and most memorable ones!

    中はリフォームされ丁寧に住んでいたと想像できました。
    お城を公開する事は賛成ですが丁度品を撤去したのは少し残念に思います。
