Watching from Australia. Visited in 2024 and love Japan and absolutely love the Shinkansen. I would like to visit again just to catch the Shinkansen a few more times.We visited the rail museum in Kyoto where you can see an original from the 1960s. In 2025 we visited Korea. The KTX is good, fast and reliable but the Shinkansen is an icon.
It will be my first time to Japan two weeks from now and I'm so excited! I'll be going to Gala Yuzawa too and it's gonna be my first time seeing snow!

東京は大陸方面を山に囲われているから、季節風の影響で冬場は晴れの日が非常に多い。しかし、裏山である谷川岳が世界有数の豪雪地帯なおかげで、一時間程度新幹線に乗れば日帰りで本格的なスキーをしに行ける。
こう考えると恵まれた地形だね。

Well, that was spectacular. But I'm not sure why you'd take a train that stopped at Echigo Yuzawa, carry on to Gala Yuzawa, and then get a bus back to Echigo Yuzawa.
