Time travel to Roman Atuatuca Tungrorum in 100 AD (Tongeren, Belgium)
Special thanks to Steven Vandewal, Dirk Pauwels & Igor van den Vonder.
We visit Atuatuca Tungrorum or current day Tongeren, which was home to one of the largest Roman cities in the northern part of the empire of Rome. We visit all major sights, such as the Teseum, Gallo-Romeins Museum, the temple complex at Keverstraat and various parts of the old Roman city wall and the location of the aqueduct. While visiting, we tell the story of the Gallic King of the Eburones Ambiorix in one of the most famous battles found in Julius Caesar own letters. Today, the city is the oldest city in Belgium.

Schitterend!
Super cool.
I'm pretty sure at least half the people walking that shopping street actually do know..
Beatiful!
The fact that's named "tungrorum", the Tongres being the tribe replacing the slaughtered Eburones, is not a homage to Ambiorix, is it?
Moved to Tongeren after couple of years self trapped at Upper Seraing, originally coming after 20 years in Canada and else before. Tongren and Limburg are soo much better.
even back then the dutch ware complaining about our roads
7:34 source for the city model?
A fun fact a guide from Tongeren once told me:
The statue of Ambiorix in the city center, actually depicts Vercingetorix. Someone ordered that from the sculptor but didn't want it anymore when it was completed. Then the city ordered a statue of Ambiorix and since no one knows what he looked like, the already finished statue worked for everyone just fine.
The Tungri as well as the Eburones were Belgae, Celts with a certain Germanic heritage. The Aduatuci were the remnants of the Teutoni, who had ventured out of ancient Denmark with their related Cimbri and Ambrones, fighting and beating the Romans repeatedly. The Teutons separated from the Cimbri on their long journey. Eventually, they arrived in the land of the Tungri, and evolved into the celticized Aduatuci.
Wrong messenger.
Caesar has never been in belgium.
Ambiorix lived close to amiens.
Atatuaca is douai.
The rhine is the schelde.
Batavians lived in bethune.
Bullshit….
Then it would be Holland because it whas from the Dutch…
The other half whas French…
Belgium people don’t exist, they are a make up an believe country
They speak French because they where had too…
They think you sound snart, butt really you sound stupid when you’ r from Belgium!
Belgium was founded in 1830. Ambiorix was never a Belgian.
Amazing video ! There are still hidden gems to be found in Youtube
