We decided to escape the buzz of Ho Chi Minh City and take an overnight trip to Tây Ninh, a place locals have been visiting for years, but one that’s still flying under the radar for most travelers. From the moment we arrived, it felt calm, authentic, and completely different from the city. At the heart of Tây Ninh is Bà Đen Mountain, the highest mountain in southern Vietnam, famous for its spiritual sites and scenic cable car ride that brings pilgrims and visitors up to the tallest bronze Lady Buddha statue in Asia. In this video, we share everything—how we got there, where we stayed, what we did, and why Tây Ninh feels like such a meaningful place to visit.

I didn't stay nearby so I had to start going from Saigon around 5 am to beat the crowd. It was pretty alright when we went up but it got super crowded around midday.

Actually, the statue at the top of the mountain is not a statue of Ba Den, but a statue of the Bodhisattva (西补陀山观世音菩萨). The statue of Ba Den is located in the temple you first visited when you went up (middle of the mountain).
Ba Den is named after a local Vietnamese legend about a young woman named Ly Thi Thien Huong (18th century). She was engaged to a young military officer who was away on official duty at the time. While traveling to the mountain temple for worship, she was attacked by criminals. To protect her honor, loyalty to her fiancé, and moral integrity, she chose to sacrifice her life. After her death, local people believed her spirit protected travelers and villagers and becoming an important spiritual and cultural figure of the region.
