Kyoto Food Day: Traditional Breakfast, Tofu Tasting & Pickle Haul | Samanthony in Tokyo Ep. 5
Day 6 of our Japan trip was all about honoring Kyoto’s culinary soul. In this episode, we slow things down and savor the flavors that have defined Kyoto’s food culture for centuries.
Here’s what we did:
• Began with one of the most memorable meals of the trip: a traditional Japanese breakfast at Shoku Kyoto Ogawashoyaku — seasonal, serene, and soul-filling
• Explored the vibrant Nishiki Market, weaving through rows of vendors selling everything from pickled roots to tamagoyaki
• Made a special stop at Doi Shibazuke Honpo to pick up expertly crafted Kyoto pickles
• Wrapped with a peaceful tofu tasting at Souhonke Yudofu Okutan Kiyomizu, overlooking a moss garden, just before heading back to Tokyo
This day was a love letter to craftsmanship and calm — and a perfect sendoff before returning to the fast pace of the city.
