Haneda Airport Walking Tour
Today, we’ll walk through Terminal 3 of Haneda Airport — located just 30 minutes from central Tokyo.
Let’s start on the 2nd floor. Here you’ll find the stations for the Monorail, Keikyu Railway, and the Limousine Bus stop. All public transport options are efficient and connect easily to Tokyo’s main areas. Right ahead are the ticket machines for the Tokyo Monorail — easy to use, even for first-time visitors. During rush hours, this corridor can get very crowded, making it hard to pass with luggage carts. On the right side are car rental counters and the ticket desk for highway buses. Buses go to various regions across Japan, and tickets can also be booked online in advance. This is the arrival lobby — many people waiting here to welcome friends and family. Across from it is an information desk, very helpful for those arriving in Japan for the first time. Here are the automatic ticket machines for highway buses, with electronic displays showing destinations and schedules. Next are the machines for Keikyu Railway tickets. Now, let’s go upstairs. We’ve reached the 3rd floor — look at that beautiful ceiling! This level is home to the check-in counters of many international airlines. Originally, Haneda handled mostly domestic flights, but since 2010, it has become an important international hub. Let’s go up one more floor. Now we’re on the 4th floor — home to a wide variety of restaurants and shops. The airport is decorated according to the season and local flowers — look how beautiful they are! In front is Bic Camera, a popular electronics store in Japan. And now, the best part — the dining area. Even if you’re not flying, you can enjoy the airport’s rich and diverse food options. At this time of day, the restaurants aren’t too crowded yet. With so many choices — ramen, sushi, yakiniku — it’s hard to decide what to eat! The display windows with plastic food samples are a charming Japanese touch. Here’s a shop selling traditional Japanese clothing. It’s definitely worth arriving a few hours early to enjoy this area. This is Edo Koji, a corridor inspired by the streets of old Edo. The wooden walls and red lanterns create a nostalgic atmosphere. Along this hallway are many souvenir shops — perfect for last-minute shopping before departure. It’s also a wonderful place to experience a final taste of Japanese culture before leaving the country. Here’s Itoen, offering sweets and drinks made from matcha — easy to find by its red umbrellas. And now, the magnificent Haneda Nihonbashi Bridge — a 25-meter wooden replica of the historic bridge in Tokyo. It connects the 4th and 5th floors and is a perfect spot for photos. Along the walls, you’ll see paintings depicting life in the Edo period — giving a glimpse into Japan’s rich history. This open area is Matsuri Plaza, inspired by the summer Bon Odori festivals held across Japan in August. For 500 yen, you can buy a small wooden plaque, write your wish, and hang it on this wall. On the 5th floor, you’ll find shops dedicated to anime and pop culture fans. There’s even Soradonki — a compact version of the famous Don Quijote store. At the end of the corridor, there’s a café with a small planetarium inside. Let’s head to the observation deck — a perfect place to watch the planes take off, with Tokyo’s skyline in the background.
