Golden Waterfall and Kamitsue
Kamitsue Town, Hita City, Oita Prefecture Explanation of Golden Waterfall National Route 387 runs from Kikuchi City in the north of the prefecture, skirting the southern part of Hita City in Oita Prefecture, and then connects again to Oguni Town in Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. Golden Waterfall is located in Kamitsue Town, Hita City, Oita Prefecture, along this national highway. The waterfall is a 10m straight waterfall over the Kawahara River. Apparently this area was once a place where gold dust was mined. The Kawahara River originates at the southern foot of Mt. Shuten-Doji (1,180.5m above sea level) in the southern part of Hita City, passes through Hita City, and finally flows into the Chikugo River and the Ariake Sea. It is said that Munakata Shiko, a master of Japanese printmaking, was so impressed by the beauty and majesty of the waterfall that he stopped in his tracks and began to paint. It was later included in the “Continued Collection of Saikaido Munakata Prints” as “Shelf of August .” This time, we also stopped by the roadside station “Seseragikyo Kamitsue” along the national highway, so we took a video. Please enjoy that as well. Today, we decided to take a fun “Autumn Drive through the Northern Part of the Prefecture” to see the beautiful autumn leaves. This is the Golden Waterfall on National Route 387 in Kamitsue Town, Hita City, Oita Prefecture. First, let’s take a look at the waterfall that captivated the master of printmaking, Munakata Shiko. Next is the nearby Sasagatume Falls. There are many waterfalls like this scattered around the Golden Falls. I was able to go down to the banks of the Kawahara River. Please enjoy for a while. Now, let’s move on to the next spot. I stopped at the roadside station “Seseragikyo Kamitsue.” There were lots of locally produced products on display, so please come and enjoy.
