主婦旅〜初めての熊本・ひとり旅①〜滞在時間は24時間!それでもグルメはあきらめない!

This time, my housewife trip was a “solo trip to Kumamoto.” This time, I used a Solaseed Air award ticket, which cost 12,000 miles for the round trip (equivalent to 6,000 V points at the time). Since I left after seeing my child off to school, it was a rare lunch flight, so I had a relaxed departure. As a result, I only had about 24 hours in Kumamoto. 💦 I wanted to narrow down the places I wanted to see and do some sightseeing. First, I had something to eat. The weather was nice, so I got takeout and ate it outside. It was mid-November, so it wasn’t too cold yet, so it was the perfect season for traveling (nice weather 😊). My flight was delayed, so I departed 10 minutes late. Even though it was such a sunny day, it was quite shaky. 💦 I arrived in Kumamoto in just under two hours. ✈️ I took a bus to Sakuramachi Bus Terminal to the city center. There were quite a few buses, and they seemed to run every 15-20 minutes. Since they weren’t timed to coincide with the arrival of the plane, it wasn’t a problem if I missed my bus. If the bus was scheduled to arrive on a schedule, I could miss it by an hour. 💦 However, since my stay was short this time, I hurried. 💦 It was about a 50-minute bus ride to the city center, and the fare was ¥1,200. Suica cards cannot be used, but credit card touches were possible. Apparently there are tours that take you around the restricted areas of Kumamoto Airport! I’m a little curious 😆 Aso Kumamoto Airport was just renovated in 2023 after the Kumamoto earthquake, and in 2024, an area for enjoying the airport called the “Sora Yoka Area” was opened 😊 (I’d like to stop by on my way back 😊) To get to Kumamoto city, I got off at “Torimachisuji,” one stop before the final stop, “Sakuramachi Bus Terminal.” It seemed faster than riding all the way to the final stop, so I got off one stop before that. My accommodation this time was “Onyado Nono Kumamoto,” which just opened in August 2025. It’s my favorite Japanese-style brand of Dormy Inn, and I had decided to stay here when I went to Kumamoto 😊 It’s a 7-8 minute walk from the Toorimachisuji bus stop, but it passes through an area where there are information centers for nightlife establishments, so if you’re with family or are concerned, I recommend using the bus stop at the final stop, Sakuramachi Terminal 💦 Since it was past check-in time, I stopped by my room. Like other Nono hotels, the building is floored with tatami mats, and shoes are left in the shoebox at the entrance. Kimonos are displayed in the hallways, giving it a very Japanese feel 😊 (I sometimes mistake kimonos for people.) (Sometimes it makes me flinch 😣) The rooms are designed the same as other Nono hotels. It’s nice to have tatami mats so you can relax on the floor 😊 Kumamoto also has a “Dormy Inn Kumamoto” which is in a great location right in front of Sakuramachi Bus Terminal, but I like the feel of this room, so I always choose “Onyado Nono” even though it’s a little more expensive 💦 (A luxury I can enjoy because flights are free 😊) This time I booked through the official website for a non-smoking double room with breakfast for 14,400 yen . It’s new, so the room is of course clean 😊 However, when I entered the room, there was a sewage smell around the toilet 💦 I flushed it, went out, and when I came back there was no smell at all, so maybe the room hadn’t been used for a while 💦 There was white peach jelly and water in the fridge 😊 Coffee and tea were available, and toothbrushes and other items were also provided in the room (although at Dormy Inn you have to take them from the front desk) . Now, I decided to head out straight away, without having explored my room. There’s a Family Mart next to the hotel, which is very convenient, but right in front of it is a port for the “Chari-Chari” bicycle-sharing service, which is popular in Kumamoto. 😆 To shorten travel time and save energy, I decided to travel by bicycle again. The ports are everywhere, and there are plenty of bicycles, so I was able to use them without any problems. I passed by “Sakuramachi Kumamoto,” a shopping mall with the “Sakuramachi Bus Terminal” (I’ll come back to that later). First, I went to “Sakura-no-Baba Josaien,” a popular tourist spot near Kumamoto Castle. It’s a shopping mall that recreates a castle town from the Edo period, lined with restaurants and souvenir shops . At this point, I was actually having trouble deciding whether to visit Kumamoto Castle, but the last entrance was at 4pm. 💦 Opening hours are until 5pm. Kumamoto Castle has a lot to see, and it seems it takes at least 1.5 to 2 hours to tour it… I came all the way there so I should just tour a little bit, or I’m getting hungry and give up on the castle… After thinking about it, I couldn’t resist my appetite 💦 This time I gave up on visiting Kumamoto Castle and decided to enjoy a meal first 😆 I had the “Lava Grilled Akaushi Beef and Horse Meat” at “Yamamichaya Kumamoto Castle Branch” in Josaien 😆 I ordered the “Kumamoto Flavor Lava Grilled Meal” which comes with dumpling soup, fresh tofu and a small side dish in addition to the meat 😆 (I gave up on sightseeing and focused all my energy on the food 😆) (Dago soup was great 😊) There were many foreign customers, so I thought it might be tailored to a tourist destination, but it’s convenient to have a restaurant that serves individual portions 😊 “Akaushi” is a breed of Wagyu beef, and is said to be very lean and healthy. Kumamoto is the number one producer and consumer of horse meat in Japan! I was very satisfied to be able to eat all the meats that represent Kumamoto all at once😊 The restaurant is spacious and you can dine at your leisure. They also had “Red Beef Bowl” and “Basashimi” (horse sashimi). They also had a selection of Kumamoto sake.😊 Yamami Chaya’s main store is apparently in Aso, but the Kumamoto Castle store was convenient as it was easy to stop by in between sightseeing.😊 Josaien has many shops where you can eat while walking around, so it’s also recommended as a place to stop by for a break. There’s also “Kumamoto Sake Brewery,” which mainly sells shochu and other Kumamoto local sake, and “Kumamoto Shunsaikan,” a general souvenir shop that can be found at the station and airport. They have everything from standard souvenirs to Kumamon goods, so it’s a very convenient spot for tourists who want to enjoy both food and shopping. Since I was there, I wanted to see Kumamoto Castle, so I wandered around the area. I heard that I might be able to see it if I went up towards Ninomaru Parking Lot, so I decided to go there.😊 I saw some people going against the flow of people from Ninomaru Parking Lot to Kumamoto Castle, so I headed towards Kumamoto Castle. I decided to follow him 😆 Kumamoto Castle’s walls collapsed in the Kumamoto earthquake and are still under repair. Just like when I visited Kanazawa, traveling makes the daily news feel closer to me. It appears we are heading to Kato Shrine and it seems you can visit even at this time. Kato Shrine is dedicated to Kato Kiyomasa, who built Kumamoto Castle. Going through the torii gate and walking forward… Kumamoto Castle is so beautiful 😆 What a spectacular view! My appetite gave in and I gave up on going inside, but I was glad I got to see the castle 😊 At this time it was not crowded and I was able to look around at my own pace 😊 In front of the shrine office there is Kumamon dressed as Kiyomasa’s warrior, so I recommend it for Kumamon fans too. After I had safely seen Kumamoto Castle, I next headed to a coffee shop I was interested in. It was a short 10-minute bike ride to “Coffee Kairo”, a coffee shop renovated from an old townhouse. As soon as I entered the shop, there were rows of raw coffee beans lined up and they roast them on the spot after I ordered, so it was hard to choose because there were so many varieties, but the staff asked me what flavor I liked, so I was relieved 😊 They don’t seem to sell blends so this time I bought “Costa Rica Jaguar Honey” Convenient drip packs were also available. Items in Kumamon packaging make perfect souvenirs 😊 Stylish coffee equipment was also lined up (it’s nice to have the same as yours 😆) Of course you can also use the cafe! One of the features of this shop is that they serve Japanese sweets instead of Western ones, because coffee and Japanese sweets go together well 😊 The interior is very stylish and lovely 😆 When you purchase coffee beans, you get a free cup of coffee . I relaxed while sipping the iced coffee I was given and waited for the beans to finish roasting, and the aroma of coffee wafting through the shop was soothing. I highly recommend using the cafe 😆 The coffee I had was also delicious 😊 I enjoy browsing supermarkets when I travel, so I stopped by Yume Mart, right next to Coffee Corridor, and when I saw the Tsuburana series, I felt like I was in Kyushu 😊 (They didn’t have kabosu 💦) They also had the “Aji Jiman” series of potato chips, which are only available in the Kyushu and Okinawa regions. Kyushu also has a wide variety of ramen sticks 😊 Since there weren’t many souvenirs I could find, I headed to Sakuramachi Kumamoto, where the bus terminal is located. This shopping complex opened in 2019 and has a supermarket called “Foodway.” There is also a souvenir shop called “Kumamon Village,” which is popular with tourists, so I take a look there first 😊 It was next to the bus information desk on the second floor. A Christmas-themed Kumamon welcomed us 😊 The store was filled with Kumamon goods 😆 This must be irresistible for Kumamon fans There were many customers from overseas Is Kumamon known to people overseas too? There were also a variety of food-related souvenirs such as sweets There were many souvenirs that looked quite unusual, but… I recommend the supermarket “Foodway” on the first basement floor! It’s spacious and has a wide selection of products😆When I stopped by in Fukuoka before, I got the impression that it was a slightly pricey supermarket, but this time it didn’t seem that expensive (maybe because I’ve gotten used to the recent price hike💦). They also have a wide variety of souvenir items, making it perfect for looking for casual souvenirs . I’ve been wanting something like this😆 Tai Ping Yen cup soup and frozen horse sashimi that would make a good souvenir😆The coffee I was looking for has gone up in price even more, finally exceeding 1000 yen💦 (It was only about 500 yen…) Sakuramachi Kumamoto is a recommended spot for shopping♪ Apparently there is a Kumamon object on the rooftop garden and you can see Kumamoto Castle If you have time, I recommend it😊It ‘s less than a 10-minute walk to the hotel, but my luggage was heavy, so I decided to use my favorite bicycle😆Shared bicycles are really convenient😆I’ll leave my luggage in my room and go for dinner. It’s a 5-minute bicycle ride from the hotel before dinner食べましたか、おいしい食べすぎた。素晴らしい、ぜひご覧ください。 English: I came to check out the food and drink area I was curious about – Kumamoto Yatai Village is a row of small eateries set up in the style of food stalls. Although they are food stalls, they have roofs so it’s safe even on rainy days 😊 From seafood to meat, there were many menus using ingredients from Kumamoto . I like izakaya menus but I’m not much of a drinker so this time I just had a look around 💦 There was also a spot where you could compare different types of shochu . For those who can drink, it looks like it would be fun to go bar hopping here 😊 Next time I’ll try it when I have someone who can drink alcohol. Since I had just eaten meat in the evening, I headed to the shopping arcade in Shimotori in search of a lighter dinner and headed to Korantei, a famous restaurant serving Tai Ping Yen, a popular soul food of Kumamoto. The last order was at 8:15pm and I was able to enter the restaurant after a short wait of about 10 minutes. This long-established Chinese restaurant was founded in 1934 and is said to be one of the birthplaces of Tai Ping Yen. Of course, my main goal was Tai Ping Yen! They offer a set menu, but I didn’t have room in my stomach, so I just went for a la carte dishes. Tai Ping Yen is similar to Nagasaki’s champon, but the noodles are made with glass noodles, making it light and easy to enjoy! The seasonal Tai Ping Yen looked delicious, but since it was my first time, I went for the regular Tai Ping Yen. They also have a selection of other classic Chinese dishes. While the restaurant has a high-end feel, the prices aren’t too high. 😊 Kyushu is close to China, so I imagine there are many long-established Chinese restaurants. They also have a great alcohol menu. 😆 While Chinese restaurants tend to be shared with large groups, this place has a fair number of solo diners, making it a comfortable place to stop by . The long-awaited Tai Ping Yen arrived! 😊 It was accompanied by a mandarin orange soda, and the generous amount of vegetables made it look delicious. ♪ It was lighter than I expected when I tried it! And best of all, the glass noodles are made with 100% mung beans! They’re lower in calories than glass noodles mixed with starch. 😊 The elegant seasoning made it easy to eat. 😊 In addition to the must-try tiger skin flea (fried egg), they also included seafood like shrimp, so I was very satisfied . Thank you for the meal! Well, this is the end of the first part of my housewife trip to Kumamoto. In the second half, I plan to mainly show you what it was like on the day I returned home. If you’re interested in the rest, please subscribe to my channel. It would be a great encouragement for me. I’ll be waiting for you in the next video.
