Yokohama feels so pleasant right now. The ginkgo leaves are the perfect shade of yellow. Walking down the street, you can’t help but slow your pace. We don’t have any special plans today. We just wanted to go out for a walk. Join us for a walk. This time we’re using a bike share. They’re all electric-assist, so riding uphill is super easy. You can register easily with a Taiwanese phone and credit card. Hi everyone, welcome back to YangYang’s channel. Today we’re going to wander around Yokohama city. We’ll visit the Yokohama Museum of Art. And Yamashita Park. I’ll show you the sights of Yokohama. Yokohama is perfect for slowly exploring by bike. Every street is so beautiful. I can’t help stopping to take photos while riding. All that golden color is super soothing. We’re passing a very historic-looking building. This building is the Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall. It was completed in 1918. It’s a Western-style building from the Neo-Renaissance period. Because its design is very cute. There’s a clock tower on top. So everyone calls it the “JACK” building. If you’re looking at it from the crosswalk across the street, Sunlight spills over the red brick wall. It makes you feel like you’ve returned to old Yokohama. This was designed by architect Yamada Shichigoro. It’s the Tatsuno-style architecture popular in the Taisho period. The interior largely remains as it did when the building first opened. The building is actually very well preserved. The stairwell’s window decorations are really vintage. On the second floor, you’ll see an exhibit area. It introduces the building’s history and its restoration process. Stained glass depicts the historic scene of the ‘Black Ships’ arrival. This area also displays the stories of the hall’s construction and restoration. Beneath the dome is the VIP lounge from back in the day. It still preserves the original furnishings. You can visit this century-old building for free. It’s also a famous landmark in Yokohama. And it’s right by the Nihon-odori Station exit, very convenient. Today’s bike ride was totally off the rails (lol). The weather was incredibly pleasant. It made it impossible to stick to our plan. When we see a place we want to check out, we just want to stop. Come on—come wander around with us. It dates back to the Meiji era. It was also Japan’s first Western-style street. At this time of year, the whole row of ginkgo trees is stunning. A wash of golden color. The golden ginkgo trees framed with Western-style buildings look so romantic. They weave together an exotic atmosphere. I was originally going to the park at the foot of the mountain. It was hard not to be drawn in as I passed by. The air is especially clear today. The sunlight and ginkgo trees are just perfect. Nihon Odori looks like a beautiful painting. On such a beautiful street, Someone is quietly sitting and painting the ginkgo trees. I happened to pass by this Gooz Ginkgo Avenue location. GOOZ = the gurgling sound of hot water plus the sound of a hungry stomach (haha). Their dishes aren’t made in a central kitchen. Most of it is made fresh on-site. They even roast the coffee beans on-site. Here you can choose the Americano you like. The coffee is great and comes in lots of flavors. Americano prices are also attractive — ¥200 a cup. Sitting by the door, soaking up the sun and watching the street is so relaxing. Even the dogs live very comfortably here (laughs). There are little dogs out for walks all along the way. Yokohama Chinatown is the largest Chinatown in the world. Next time I’ll take you all for a proper tour. Today I’m taking you to eat at a place. It’s a burger shop ranked among the top 100, near Chinatown. It’s super close to Ishikawacho Station. I’ve heard their pressed burgers are incredible. The music and atmosphere in the shop are awesome. It feels like a hidden little spot. It’s my first time seeing a burger patty pressed that flat. It looks extra crispy and fragrant (drooling). When you walk in, you order and pay first—it’s a very simple process. They serve food very quickly here. A burger isn’t complete without a milkshake. The first bite totally blew me away. Crispy and crunchy with a subtle smoky aroma. The classic flavor is absolutely delicious. Ms. Yang has her mouth full. It’s super delicious! I’ll definitely come back here next time. I loved it so much. I googled it from the burger place. It’s about a 3-minute walk to the Diplomat’s Residence. But it’s uphill the whole way… Walking it is still a bit of a challenge (haha). But when I saw this beautiful Victorian-style building, I felt the climb was totally worth it. This is the Diplomat’s Residence. It was originally the former residence of Uchida Sadatsuchi, a diplomat from the Meiji period After it was moved from Tokyo to Yokohama, it was opened to the public. Inside, the living room, study, and bedrooms from that time have been preserved. You can get a sense of what life in a Western-style house was like back then. Come with us and take a look. Welcome to my home. It’s now an important cultural heritage site. There’s a very large ginkgo tree right in the garden. I’m completely surrounded by golden light. On this trip, ginkgo trees are everywhere. It seems you can’t record inside. If you have time, you should definitely come and see it in person. The interior of the house preserves Art Nouveau-style decorations. The entire space is finely designed and very elegant. This area is full of Western charm and perfect for a leisurely stroll. Bluff No. 18 Hall is just a one-minute walk away. It’s a building from the late Taisho period. Back then it was a Western-style house for foreigners to live in. It’s now open for free visits. There’s a huge ginkgo tree in the backyard. It’s the biggest ginkgo tree I’ve seen today. The golden ginkgo against the old Western-style house. Taking photos here in the fall is really atmospheric. Sitting here daydreaming makes time seem to slow down. It’s also a place I highly recommend to experience Yokohama in the fall. Are you happy? Happy. This place really is all slopes. It’s constantly up and down. Even the vending machines are wrapped. When we reached the foot of the mountain, we found this cozy, atmospheric shop. Today we first bought the plain cookies. The buttery aroma was absolutely irresistible. Next time we get the chance, we’ll try their game dishes. So tasty! Warm and crispy. I wanted to eat it right away as soon as I got it. Next scene brings us to this spot (hurry up and buy shoes). Tonight we’re eating at our favorite seafood place, “Aichiya.” It was established in Meiji 35. A long-standing crab specialty restaurant. The owner personally selects the crab at the market every day. They have king crab, snow crab, and horsehair crab, all very fresh. Their uni is my number one. Snow crab meat is tender and incredibly sweet. It makes you want to eat it bite after bite. King crab meat is chewier and has a springy texture. It’s really satisfying to eat. This crab shell dish grills the crab meat inside the shell. The aroma is really rich and it tastes great. The grilled snow crab legs are dipped in homemade crab vinegar. The sweet-and-sour flavor pairs perfectly and is really delicious. When you take this bite, You’re overflowing with happiness from all that crab meat. Today’s Matsuba crab is super popular. They put up a “sold out” sign right away. Cheers. Toasting with family at a meal is a happy moment. We always have to stop by FamilyMart after a meal~. Japanese convenience stores are really fun to browse. You can really buy anything at FamilyMart. They even carry basic daily necessities. You can even get those super-popular logo striped ankle socks lately. The black ones look great too—decided, I’ll take them. Couldn’t help but go swing on the swing for a bit (laughs). I’ll say goodnight for tonight. The morning sunlight feels so nice. I couldn’t resist taking one more swing before heading out. Yokohama Landmark Tower is also one of Yokohama’s iconic attractions. I’ll take you around this area next time~ Although the shops haven’t opened yet the mall is already playing holiday music, so festive and cheerful The air is full of happiness~ This Blue Bottle Coffee is the world’s first branch located inside a park. When you walk in here, you’ll find large floor-to-ceiling windows. So you can sit here and enjoy the pleasant feeling of sunlight and a breeze. This shop was jointly designed by Japan’s Keiji Ashizawa and a Danish team. The whole shop features a wood-focused design. The furniture comes from Karimoku, a well-known Japanese maker of wooden furniture. Besides drinking coffee, it also feels like a space where you can browse a lifestyle exhibition. When it first opened, the café’s chairs could be purchased directly on the official website. Now some of them may no longer be available for purchase. But you can still admire its beautiful design. This shop is located in Minato Mirai, near the Yokohama Museum of Art. So if you’re walking around Minato Mirai and visiting the museum, you can come here for a cup of coffee. This Blue Bottle Coffee is on the outer side of MARK IS Minato Mirai. It’s convenient to grab a coffee while shopping. My favorite is the tomato open-faced sandwich. The sweet freshness of the tomato paired with the savory saltiness of the cheese is so delicious. Having a slice with a delicious coffee really lifts your mood. This Americano is a dark roast; the bitterness is more pronounced. Sometimes the cafe opens the whole wall of floor-to-ceiling windows. Sitting by the window feels as relaxing as being in a park. The Yokohama Museum of Art finally reopened this year. I’m really looking forward to going to see it. We are now here at the Yokohama Museum of Art. This is a signature work by Kenzo Tange. It opened in 1989. It underwent renovations from 2021 to 2025. The goal was to make the entire building more open and more modern. The most charming thing about the building’s exterior is the geometric rhythm of circles and squares dancing together. It extends into the interior as well. If you stare at it long enough, it feels like it’s playing a visual game of hide-and-seek with you. Let’s go inside and take a look. It turned out they were changing the exhibits today, so it was temporarily closed. We’ll have to see it next time. Yokohama’s landmark Ferris wheel, “Cosmo Clock 21.” A full rotation on the Ferris wheel gives you a view of all of Yokohama. This is the waterfront green park of Yokohama’s Minato Mirai 21. It’s free to visit, and a walk here is very pleasant. Moored in the park is a super-cool white sailing ship, “Nippon Maru.” This Japanese Maru sailing ship was built in 1930 as a training vessel. After retirement it’s docked here and open for visitors. Also known as the Swan of the Pacific—super elegant. Next time you’re in Yokohama, come here to feel the sea breeze and see the sailing ship. Last year our situation was different. Last year the line was super long—over an hour; now there’s no line. Last year the line even stretched outside. Please be careful. The Yokohama Air Cabin is Japan’s first urban cable car. In just five minutes you can take in views of Yokohama. The cabins have air conditioning, so you can ride comfortably even in wind or rain. Look out the cable car window. You can enjoy the charming views of Yokohama and Minato Mirai. We walked from the World Porters shopping mall. We crossed this stylish circular pedestrian bridge. The Shinko Circle Walk is super photogenic. It connects World Porters, Cosmo World, and Canal Park Station. The Red Brick Warehouse is a classic century-old building. Inside, it houses modern shops and exhibition spaces. There’s something new to discover every time we visit. We’re visiting the Christmas market! We’re checking out the annual Christmas market. There are Christmas light ceremonies from dusk until late at night. It creates a strong European-style holiday atmosphere. Let’s go. There are two entrances here. One is a regular admission ticket: ¥500. The other is a priority ticket: ¥1,500. If you don’t have to wait in line, the regular entrance is totally fine (that was our situation). The regular entrance is also closer to the port. Yokohama in winter always feels especially romantic. A sparkling Christmas tree at the port. The daytime market is so lively and festive. With a cup of hot mulled wine, it feels like we’re in a little European town (lol). I unexpectedly found a super tiny snow globe. Should I buy one? Buy a Christmas-themed one. Or what else should I buy? This one I’ll buy this Merry Christmas Every stall makes you want to stop and take a look What is this? Sausage hot dog Hot dog It’s tasty! We’re at the Christmas market! Let’s stroll around The holiday vibe here is really strong When in Japan, you’ll definitely eat and drink a lot You can buy Iemon Plus+ to drink It can help maintain healthy blood vessels after meals Smooth (helps maintain vascular health and helps lower bad cholesterol (LDL)) Anyway, you can buy this bottle to drink after a big meal. It helps take care of your blood vessels and lower bad cholesterol. This is the Red Shoe sightseeing bus in Yokohama with a full retro vibe. If you want to easily visit popular spots like Yamashita Park and Chinatown, this is the one to take~ The Yokohama promenade is a road built out over the sea. It’s a path where people can stroll slowly. You can walk while watching the Minato Mirai skyline. There is a steel truss bridge built during the Meiji era. The waterfront promenade connecting the Red Brick Warehouse to Minato Mirai This is Yokohama’s hidden route for sea views and architecture On the second floor of World Porters There’s a stylish selection shop called NIPPON DNA I bought the lucky charm for the Year of the Horse It’s a traditional Japanese papier-mâché craft Good luck arrives right away—the yellow gourd is filled with blessings I hope you’re surrounded by luck in the Year of the Horse What’s this? This is a New Year’s lottery ticket Can people see the numbers like that? I don’t know Around Noge and Sakuragicho, there’s our favorite eel restaurant Slowly savoring all kinds of eel dishes in a Japanese-style setting. This is my most relaxing time. Let’s dig in. You can ask the restaurant to recommend a suitable drink to pair with the meal. Each dish has a different paired drink. That tendon in the back. The tendon that makes the tail move. My family is sharing a little tip with me. They say it makes sake smoother and more layered. Cheers. Fuhai. So is pufferfish called that too? (drunk and rambling) Dipping a bit of salt when drinking sake is a practice that dates back to Japan’s Sengoku period. Salt enhances the sake’s sweetness and umami. It gives the overall flavor more layers. Drink it with salt-grilled fish or seafood. The sake becomes smoother and its flavor more interesting. Finally, the grand finale. Though the space is small, you can feel the care put into it. Tonight we had a very satisfying eel dinner in Noge. Now we’re getting ready to go home and rest. Yokohama’s pace is always so relaxed. Thanks for walking around with us. Every comment, every like, is what keeps us going and shooting more. I hope the footage lets you feel the everyday gentle warmth of Yokohama. Next episode we’ll take you for a walk in Kamakura. See you next time 🫶
