18-Hour Ferry to Hokkaido in a Private Japanese-Style Room 🛳️ Sunflower “Sapporo”

This video is… Where am I right now…? That’s right, I’m at Mito Station in Ibaraki Prefecture, famous for natto. Today, I’m heading to Hokkaido by ferry. Bus Stop 3 I bought some food at a nearby supermarket. The bus to the ferry terminal has arrived. Credit card contactless payments work, but Suica is not accepted, so be careful About 35 minutes to the ferry terminal In the end, only one other person besides me rode to the ferry terminal Seeing the ferry suddenly makes me feel so excited Oarai Port Ferry Terminal Oh! The new ferry I rode last time, the “Pirika,” is docked. And right next to it is the Sunflower “Sapporo,” the ferry I’m boarding this time. Just as I was casually filming this, the ferry company called to say boarding procedures were about to close 😓 Close call, but check-in complete! Boarding gate is this way Time to board! This is what it looks like inside the ferry. Christmas version. Room is on the 6th floor This time I booked: Superior Ocean View (Japanese-style room) (¥33,000) Wow! This is the first time I’ve had such a nice room on a ferry trip! 🥰 Take off your shoes here I’m so happy to see outside from the room since I’ve stayed in capsule rooms all this time Comforter The pillow is thin. Not very bouncy. Sheets and mattress pad Foldable mattress with logo There are three of them. I’ll share my thoughts on how it feels to sleep on it tomorrow 😘 Small Japanese-style table Pajamas The pajamas look like this Bath towel Amenities Face towel, body towel Cotton swabs, toothbrush Shampoo, conditioner, body soap Somehow I feel stronger Then, a hair dryer and disposable slippers Power outlet TV Tissues Electric kettle Tea Refrigerator Small but nice to have Just noticed, this room has quite a few outlets. Shouldn’t have trouble charging things Hand sanitizer Stool Three hangers. The rubber-coated type. And there’s a toilet and shower inside the room The toilet has a bidet function Glass cup They’re probably floating to prevent them from falling during shaking. The shower water pressure was perfect, but it took a little while for the hot water to come out. Maybe because it’s winter? Bath mat Happy to see the harbor from the room It’s dark now and hard to see, but looking forward to the view tomorrow when it’s bright Last time I rode, I think the Sunflower song played when boarding, but maybe it’s different on the northbound trip? I wish I could hear the Sunflower song again 😗 This is the restaurant on the 6th floor Dinner and breakfast set for 3,200 yen Cashless payment available There are also a few takeout menu items Nighttime view of Oarai Port Time to depart soon Bye-bye 👋 The start of an 18-hour journey to Hokkaido Dinner time. Sushi bought at the supermarket for 1000 yen The sushi pieces are all squished together lol. The salmon roe is totally flattened. Fixed it. For 1000 yen, I think this is a good deal. Starting with the negitoro It’s pretty tasty Only the shrimp one is big Fish tastes better when you eat it on the sea Is this some kind of psychopathic feeling? lol Come to think of it, I did a medical experiment to earn money for this ferry ride A ferry you ride by selling blood is the best 🛳️ Time to get ready for bed. Today’s bed is complete. Editing videos while drinking sparkling wine bought at the supermarket If you’re someone with a birthday today, cheers to you! Well then, good night 😴 The next morning Good morning Waking up to a sea view feels special Last night, the sound of waves hitting the ship was pretty loud and a bit noisy. But I slept well anyway. I thought this pillow was too thin. I thought the mattress might be thin, but my back didn’t hurt or anything. Today’s socks Alright, I’ll take a tour of the ship while it’s still early and no one’s around This is the 6th floor. The floor with my room and the restaurant Breakfast only is 1400 yen. The kitchenette has hot water, a water dispenser, and a microwave. The shared space also has plenty of chairs. To the 5th floor. It seems we’re currently sailing off the coast of Aomori Prefecture. This is where we boarded yesterday Apparently it’s the 40th anniversary of the Tokyo-Hokkaido route 🎉 Congratulations! 🥳 This is the information desk And next to it is the shop It’s closed at this time This is what it looks like when it’s open. Maybe I’ll go on a trip to Taiwan with this next time. They also sell ship stamps (gosenin) This is the Sunflower-exclusive ship stamp album. It costs over 5000 yen, so it’s pricey They also sell amenity items Hokkaido ice cream is also available. Goods featuring Hokkaido’s super cute long-tailed tits. I spotted a cruise ship guidebook and flipped through it—it was seriously amazing, I was blown away Cashless payments are also accepted Found some great socks, so I’m buying them lol A new member has joined my sock collection. I also bought a ship stamp. Continuing the onboard tour. This is the kids’ area He’s totally exhausted 🤪 Three massage chairs Each session costs 200 yen for 12 minutes Large public bath No photography allowed, so please see the images on the website The sauna was lukewarm, but the baths were nice Smoking area Laundry room Washing machines are ¥300 per load, detergent is automatically dispensed. Dryers are ¥100 for 30 minutes. Baby room Stepping out onto the deck Cloudy but a beautiful sky Or so I thought, but the wind is strong… Plus, the wind is cold 🥶 Way too cold I’ll share the view from the upper floor with everyone too Whoa, this wind is crazy Look, everyone, this is the view I worked hard to capture Pretty nice, huh? The wind’s getting crazy, so I’m heading back inside. Ugh, ugh… The wind’s so strong it’s hard to move forward… Phew, warm. My hands are freezing and hurting so bad, even though I wasn’t outside that long 😢 I underestimated the winter sea So, next is the 7th floor All rooms on the 7th floor are premium rooms with balconies. In warmer seasons, stepping out onto the balcony to gaze at the sea would be amazing. Game corner Looks like a Pokémon graveyard lol The ship tour is over, so I’ll have breakfast (¥1,400) Breakfast is buffet-style, but there definitely seems to be less variety than dinner. The somen noodles were a unique touch. You can also use the drink bar. I took a little bit of everything. Boiled dumplings. These boiled dumplings were probably the tastiest. The other dishes were tasty overall too Nothing particularly noteworthy to say lol Well, for 1400 yen, I think it’s worth eating this breakfast. The sea’s getting a bit rough again. The contrast between the music inside the ship and the sound of the waves crashing is amazing 😛 The donut I bought yesterday. A limited-time Pikachu donut. I’m going to eat you now ♡ Here we go! Pikachu is filled with plenty of cream The outside has a crispy texture, while the inside is fluffy cream It was milder and sweeter than it looked. Looks like Mr. Bird made a friend 😘 When I asked a staff member, they told me the sea wasn’t too rough that day, but the wind was strong. The TV seemed pretty stable, but it would occasionally freeze. However, there was a channel playing movies, and that streamed smoothly the whole time. At that time, they were also showing the Demon Slayer movie. 💪 As we approached Hokkaido, water droplets started turning into ice☃️ Thank you to everyone who always watches🥰 I’ll go outside again It’s heavy… lol The sky hasn’t changed, but the wind is getting stronger and colder! Ugh Oh no The wind… hurts… I can see land. Somewhere in Aomori Prefecture, I guess Pretty small ice pellets are flying at me and it hurts Way too much headwind Taking a little break. Can’t feel my hands anymore. If I fell into this sea right now, I’d probably die instantly. It was too cold, so I quietly read inside the ship. Come to think of it, the internet connects when you’re close to land (there’s no Wi-Fi on board). The time to disembark is approaching. My overall impression is that this was a very comfortable and enjoyable ferry trip. Traveling in a proper private room instead of a capsule room really makes a huge difference in stress levels. I also liked the room design and was very satisfied. Tomakomai Port A ship that looks like it’s from North Korea is docked here. I wondered if it was okay, but after checking, it was an oil tanker. It’s probably a safe ship. Probably. Next to it, the Pacific Ferry “Ishikari” is docked. Wow, the Sunflower’s music is playing. You can hear it clearly from inside the ship. I think this song is really catchy and memorable 😊 Quite a few comments on my previous videos mentioned this song too, so it seems I’m not the only one who likes it lol Arrived at Tomakomai Port. I was planning to take the connecting bus to the nearest station, but… While I was filming this video… The bus had already left 😢 In the end, I took a taxi to Tomakomai Station. It was a fairly short distance, so it only cost 1800 yen, but considering taxis might not be available, I recommend checking the bus schedule carefully. I’m heading to New Chitose Airport now because I want to try something out. So, the next video will be about New Chitose Airport. Thank you for watching until the end.

In this video, I traveled from Tokyo to Oarai in Ibaraki, the Kanto region, boarded the Sunflower “Sapporo,” and embarked on an 18-hour journey to Tomakomai, Hokkaido.
My room was a Japanese-style Superior Ocean View cabin, which was very comfortable. Please watch until the end!

  1. Great video. I'm surprised you were allowed onto the deck with the cold, wind and rough water. Your room looked very comfortable and nice. "Sunflower, Sunflower…."

  2. Hello my friend wonderful video, very rough weather though I’m glad you didn’t get blown overboard! Sunflower,Sunflower .🎼❤️

  3. Sunflauwaaa Sunflauwaaa 🌻🎵🛳. Thanks for the cold, hard work for the view. It was nice.

  4. Great to see another video from you… i love ferry videos <3 i always watch them to calm down before going to bed really relaxing …thanks a lot =)

  5. That was close….you almost ended up being the Elf Left on the Shelf of Oarai Terminal. The Sunflower song is sort of the nonholiday version of Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime".

  6. Hello to you, Mr. Bird! And to you, my friend! I'm happy to see you posted a ferry video. These are my absolute favorites. Greetings from Texas 🤠 ❤

  7. Just a tiny suggestion? I watch a different channel who does video on ferries etc and he tells you the food he's getting, because it's different than other countries and I personally find it fascinating like Chicken nanban or karaage..its a small touch that'd be appreciated.
But other than that you're rapidly becoming a favorite of mine❤

  8. Two videos from you in one week, how nice ! I very much enjoyed the ferry video. I love the sea and would like to take a ferry in Japan (and I would choose a japanese room like you had), but I get seasick at the slightest movement of the sea, so that is not an option for me. Therefore, I really enjoy videos about ferry trips in Japan.

  9. This looked like so much fun!!! Having your own room is cool too 😊 Love your new socks. ❤❤❤ how much did they cost?

  10. As usual great video!!!

I would have had to pile all 3 mattresses and comforters to sleep on the floor. Lol 😅
