The Most Charming Town in Gifu? Overnight trip to Gujo Hachiman
in our last episode, we hiked part of the Nakasendo near Magome now we’re driving our rental car to Gujo Hachiman also known as the water city its a 2 hour drive and we plan to stop at a shrine on the way found this shrine on google maps theres also a waterfall nearby lets check it out one of the benefits of renting a car is that you can visit places crowd free its so peaceful here the waterfall is a little bit past the shrine Its almost 3p.m. time to go check in at Gujo Hachiman we’ve checked in to a retro Japanese house I’ll give you the house tour tomorrow. We’ve only one night here so lets get exploring I’m already loving this town first stop, as always, need to find coffee the location of this cafe is excellent you can tell by looking at it, its going to be great coffee and its such a nice place to sit and enjoy it Igawa Lane has drainage canals filled with koi fish you can even feed them we’ve been wanting to come here ever since we saw a wonderful Sol Life Vlog its hard to believe there are koi just swimming in the drainage canal its one of those things you wouldn’t find in the west yet another reason why we love coming to Japan love that theres no one here its so peaceful easy to see why its called the water city Gujo is very small, its easy to stumble across little shrines I love how every town in Japan seems to have their own style of manhole cover Almost everywhere is closed in Gujo on a Wednesday night dinner options are limited luckily we found a Ramen spot Off to bed soon, another big day tomorrow We’re staying at the Nomad Inn Gujo which is a traditional Japanese house which has been renovated let me give you the tour love the retro Japanese vibes its our first time staying in such a house, we’re excited to see what its like Shoes off before entering its a traditional Japanese table, for sitting on the floor theres a kitchen but we don’t plan on using it the back yard is has a great view the property has been renovated by a local architect it can be reserved on booking.com The owner is a very friendly guy its another example of the wonderful hospitality we received everywhere in Japan these are the steepest stairs I’ve seen and watch your head on the way up this place has so much more character than a hotel the cultural aspect is very interesting to me there are tatami & futons to sleep on theres a shrine right behind the house! Temples & shrines in Japan are immaculatly maintained Gail is Buddhist, though Japanese Buddhism has its differences So green! this place is incredible feeling very lucky to visit a place like this in our lifetime so pretty in the rain, it must be even more pretty in late autumn been to a few castles in Japan before this one is my favourite because it sits on a hill the view is lovely the history of this place is very interesting didn’t know there are links to famous historical events adore this view! its been raining most of our time in Japan the mist adds a unique character to the view we loved our time in Gujo Hachiman, it was too short we’ll be off to Takayama and Shirakawa-go in the next video completing our roadtrip around Gifu prefecture if you enjoyed this video, please like and subscribe
